At Β£20mil I agree he’d be an OK backup. So, assuming another CB comes in, he would offer decent cover. It’s the idea of him coming in to sort a leaky defence out that is strange. If Chelsea wanted a half-decent ball playing defender who is error-prone, they could have kept Luiz. I’d actually suggest Luiz is the better of the two imo.
As for the idea Stones would improve Utd, just don’t get that at all. Maguire is much better than Stones and I wouldn’t swap Stones for any of Smalling, Bailly or Lindelof tbh. Possibly would swap him for Jones or Rojo.
Genuinely don’t think there’s anything in the Stones link. It’s the media linking Chelsea with any out of favour defender they can think of.

11th August 2020 at 9:38 am #147701Anonymoushh.. hello mate, VVD is at the top of his profession. Do not get met wrong on that. What I mean is he does the simple things really very well. I dont think he’s better than our own JT, is comparable to Carvalho who both used to do it… Koulibaly, Ramos, all do it. Rio Ferdinand, Tony Adams, Mcguire in the title winning season did it… Maldini did it, Mathius, the list goes on. Basically, Top defenders make the game simple and keep it simple and help organise. All those qualities you listed are typical qualities in top defenders. They keep it simple do simple things. Liverpool have a top defender. Defenders make mistakes when they do too much with the ball. Like we are seeing at Chelsea and city and Arsenal.
999… Dunk keeps the game simple, paired with the pace of Rudiger it could work. How we missed the organising of Gary Cahill this season. Thats all I’ll say. Either would work for me I Nour back line, but if you have a player who sits there, you need whippets around him. See Liverpools fullbacks and engine room in front of VVD.
Young Blue, I think its about asking the question about Christiensen, has he kicked on since coming back from the bundesliga… No… He has every asset to be a top defender, but its not happening with us yet, he switches off too easily and does at times get sucked into bad areas. On his day, ive said on here, he’s like a rolls Royce, but we dont see that consistency enough.
Lamps needs a settled defence.

11th August 2020 at 11:47 am #147798Unfortunately Sarri prematurely killed of Cahill’s Chelsea career. We would have been a much better team defensively had Cahill still been at Chelsea last season.

11th August 2020 at 12:04 pm #147815442, maguire didnβt play for Leicester when they won the league
I wouldnβt mention maguire alongside terry, carvalhio etc. He has a long way to go before he is anywhere near their quality

11th August 2020 at 3:01 pm #147911Chelsea’s earning from the Champions League this season is said to be Β£72m. that is a boost to the already available war-chest. plus the Β£32m bonus windfall from the Hazard contract which will be payable, that is already Β£104m in the bank. plus Β£88m from Hazard, Β£48m, Β£16m for Pallasic, Β£8m for Luiz, we have Β£264m without needing to sell anyone. seems the club is in good hands with Marina at the helm.

13th August 2020 at 11:35 am #149637Another day, another Kai Havertz to Chelsea update.Yes this saga is dragging on but it really is quite literally a matter of βwhen, rather than ifβ Havertz signs for Chelsea according to Matt Law who gave a detailed outlook on Chelseaβs season, and the clubs transfer plans, and it reiterates our belief that it is a very exciting time to be a Chelsea fan.
He believes that once Havertz has been confirmed, players will need to be sold before any more players can be bought in.
Law is also sure that Lampard will want Havertz in as soon as possible, but the negotiations are just about how the deal is structured, but he is confident the deal will be done.β
But according to Gab Marcotti βI donβt think Chelsea feel they need Kai Havertz considering the players theyβve already added, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are already there, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the list goes on and on.
βBut equally Chelsea are saying if thereβs a chance they can get him at a price they like and at terms they like, yeah theyβll go for it.
βI donβt think Chelsea are going to budge from their position or inch forwards.
βI donβt think Lampard will pressure the club to say he needs Havertz now, not while they have more important positions to fill and other positions elsewhere.β
Two slightly differing views on Harvertz from two very well respected sources what we do know is that Leverkusen always said they wouldnβt sell Harvertz whilst they were in the Europa League which made it impossible to complete this possible transfer early and there remains difference on the players valuation with Chelsea Seemingly wanting to pay nearer to Β£70m and Leverkusen wanting Β£90m. Laws comment on how the deal is structured suggests Chelsea are prepared to include some add onβs to their valuation?
You pays your money you takes your choice on the above two views both are very well respected sources although Lawβs is closer to all things Chelsea than anyone and is probably the most reliable source for all Chelsea stories.
Unfortunately with any transfer it takes 3 to tango and until all parties are in step with the music they donβt happen.

16th August 2020 at 1:26 pm #152578Thing is 442 very few transfers are getting done reflecting the difficulties of the market place due to Coronavirus and the Clubs concerns about paying over the odds for players in the current climate.
As I’ve said previously if we are all smart enough to recognise Chelsea need to strengthen defensively I’m pretty sure Frank and the powers that be at Chelsea are smart enough to see that too and on that basis I think it’s just a matter of time but we’ll see.

16th August 2020 at 1:28 pm #152580Youβd hope so 999 but the world and his wife could see the Arsenal defence needed sorting for over a decade and never done …..

16th August 2020 at 2:51 pm #152648Stevo, I’m pretty confident that Frank knows what needs doing and he’s only been there a Season and is only in his second Season as a Manager too.
It’s all about buying the right players though transfers can fail just as much as they can succeed and I’m hoping we strengthen in the right areas with the right players and they work out. But a lot depends on who is available to buy and is affordable too.
Though tbh I would be amazed and massively disappointed too if we went into the new Season/ past this Summers window without strengthening defensively. But we’ll see.

16th August 2020 at 3:31 pm #152683Mav, Chelsea need a big dominant Centre Back who is strong in the air and is prepared to put his body on the line Dunk seems to fit that requirement and is a Chelsea fan to boot.
Is it true? Will it happen? And what would be the actual transfer fee? Only time will tell.

17th August 2020 at 8:11 am #153471Sergio Reguilon at circa Β£25m looks a much better investment than Ben Chilwell at up to three times that.
