Chelsea need a big dominant centre back and as nine says, dunk fits that bill. Very good defender

Shane Duffy aswell but dunk is better. Looks like Duffy might be going to wba so night make Brighton think twice about selling dunk. Still, if the offer is big enough, Brighton will sell both once they have replacements

Dan burn had a great season playing mostly at left back for Brighton but he’s predominantly a centre back

Signing Stones to sort out a defence which is in major need of surgery would be an abysmal decision. Surely nothing in that.

For all the positive attacking signings, Chelsea’s defensive signings will be the most critical this summer. Lost far too many games and conceded far too many goals for a side wanting to challenge for the biggest trophies imo.

We have also had many links with stones and more worried as arteta must know him well
And same as you ed says about Chelsea…. it’s the sorting of the defence that’s the biggest key area … no manager yet has been able to

Stevo, Arteta is seemingly pushing for Willian on the basis that he has limited funds to spend and he thinks Willian can do a job for Arsenal.

I think the only question mark against Willian is not what his level is now but where it will be in a couple of years time when he will be 34/35 that’s what stopped Chelsea giving him a 3 year contract.

Personally I would have liked to have seen him stay for another couple of seasons but realistically would he have played ahead of Pulasic and Ziyech probably not.

Re. John Stones…..he is a capable footballer but has just not fitted Peps requirements. I think he could do a good job in other teams though. He maybe always have that slip in him but a tighter format than City have would be OK for him. Lampard and Arteta both interested apparently and they should know what they are talking about

Brian, I kind of agree with you on stones. He was pretty decent defender at Everton and I think there’s always hype around a defender who can ping a ball about.

I think Pep asks too much of defnders and he’s been spoilt through his career with simply outstanding ones. Dani Alves and lahrn at Bayern spring to mind.

He’s a solid unit and if simply tasked with doing a vvd and sitting in the middle winning Ariel balls and passing five yards either side, he could be a very shrude signing. Is he better than christiensen, zouma… yes, is he better than Luiz et all at arsenal, more than likely. Premier league winner as well.

Think he’d improve United as well…

At circa £20m Stones might be worth a punt he’s better than Christensen imo.

I think Dunk would be a good signing for Chelsea and the fee won’t be a silly £80m.

But Chelsea are linked with so many players currently it’s difficult to separate fact from fiction this Chelsea transfer window.

I wouldn’t go anywhere near Stones at this moment. he is not better than Christensen I tell you. at least Christensen doesn’t have direct errors that lead to goals as Stones does. he is not dominant in the air like Christensen. and Christensen is better-suited playing from the back. like Christensen, Stones is not attentive to dangers. and since we no longer have JT who would organize our back four. so our next CB should have to be dominant in the air and should have leadership qualities. Zouma dominant in the air but lacks leadership qualities.

YB, I don’t like criticising Chelsea players but I think Chrisrsnsen has really struggled of late and he was asleep for the Bayern goal.

Re Stones if you’re going to get a £50m player for £20m it suggests they’ve had problems Zouma has a big heart abd is quick but makes too many errors imo and Rudiger has regressed this season but might be save able?

As I said earlier I quite fancy Dunk he’s a boyhood Chelsea fan so playing for the Club would really mean something for him he’s brave and an organiser shades of JT and he’s good in the air.

I never get too excited about these rumours the majority are wrong and I think we have to trust in Frank’s judgement re who we sign. Cheers 9’s

442 – maybe I have misinterpreted your post but are you saying VVD just wins ariel balls and passes the ball 5 yards either side? His range of passing, his speed, his anticipation and awareness. ..oh and he scores a few as well!

It may well be that you were just looking for somebody to win are ball and do the simple passes, but VVD is not the best example surely. Maguire?

VVD is the best defender in the world on current form. and he has everything that a defender should have. big, imperious in the air, good at his feet, organizes defenses, and drives the team.

I think if Chelsea were to sign Stones it might be as well as signing another physically dominant Centre Back but we’ll see. There are more rumours than you can shake a stick re Chelsea signings this Summer.
