I don’t really buy into these “we saw him first” debates when it comes to targets. Naturally, we read more news about our own clubs and their primary targets but a lot goes on behind the scenes that doesn’t even make the media. As far as we know, Chelsea have been chasing these players since they were kids. We really have no idea.
I realise you weren’t having a go Mak and that you were in fact praising Chelsea for their ruthlessness, but I don’t think we can ever claim that anyone is “our” target. I mean, Utd have been linked with Sancho more than anyone but there won’t be a club out there who hasn’t discussed the possibility of signing him, I’m sure. He isn’t “our” target because more column inches have been dedicated to our chances of signing him over anyone else.
Every club in Europe would have looked at Havertz, Werner, Sancho etc.

23rd July 2020 at 2:44 pm #133537AnonymousOne of the reasons we’ve lost so many is because we’ve been unable to kill sides off. Tammyis learning at the top table, Giroud is not prolific, our wingers have failed to score enough goals. That in turn puts pressure on a defence and when individuals or collectively mistakes are made, weve been punished. More goals means more points but CFC really need to look at how they organise in the back line. We know Dave will give his all every game, and is improving at rightback once more to a level he’s capable of playing at. Our left back slot is concerning as neither Emerson or Alonso are good enough defensively. jury is out on who partners who still in the center of defence. What is chelsea’s best pairing, not sure Frank knows that just yet. Whoever plays has a lack of organising ability. That in turn does affect a goalkeeper. Kepa has dropped off from his first season form when he was actually looking very promising as a young keeper. Willy Cab just never fills me with confidence. Either way, work needs to be done to improve the defence, hoping Tomori improves as he could be very good.

23rd July 2020 at 4:17 pm #133577AnonymousGood Afternoon lads, I have just joined this site and this is my first post. last night’s result was mixed one for me. on one hand, it was disappointing raised concerns about our defending and keeper situations, and I was disappointed that we were exposed like that. and on the other hand, we have scored three goals at Anfield the home of the champions. not many teams go there and play as we did. so that was encouraging.
I felt our defence was exposed to Liverpool’s deadly attack, Jorginho was non-existent in our midfield he has been like that, but others always covered his flaws. Kovacic amazes me, on one game he is great and other game he is poor. we need a commanding holding midfielder also.
As for Kepa, I don’t need to say anything about him. he has to sit on the bench or go. there is no way he will start another game for us. our players have lost trust in him. Rudiger is also disappointing. he is our most senior centre half, and he is the worst at this moment.

It’s not about who saw him first at all though. Werner was going to join Liverpool. He was all set but the virus put a stop to it. If there was no virus, I assure you, he’d be on his way here. How do I know this? Credible sources (they do exist) constantly telling us bits and pieces and even the players speaking once or twice. the conversation developed over time from him maybe going to Bayern but it evolved more and more towards us.
As for Havertz, there was a lot less solid information about how locked in he was but he was a priority target.
I’m not dismissing your overall point though, the big up and comers will be watched by loads. You are correct but for me Werner is the exception. Havertz might have been also but I’d have to go looking at who was saying what about him again, as I can’t remember TBH.

23rd July 2020 at 8:33 pm #133676Mak, yeah I agree with that Werner definitely looked like he was going to Liverpool until Klopp said he couldn’t buy this Summer.

To which Lea Havertz replies: “He’s moving to London next month.”
To which the mystery messenger responded: “Fantastic, Chelsea?”
“Yes!” Leah says.” Express 24/07 ???

26th July 2020 at 3:10 pm #134643Kepa dropped in favour of big Willie and he looks a gonna now at Chelsea as he won’t play in the Cup Final.
Sadly no Kante and no Willian either hopefully both are fit for next Saturday. Good news is that Pulisic is back.
3 at the back to match Wolves. All fingers and toes crossed.???

27th July 2020 at 10:27 am #134980Frank and the players have excelled this season. An amazing effort. Integrate the likes of Werner, Ziyech and possibly Havertz a few astute defensive purchases and a new keeper and there should be super exciting times ahead. I was surprised by Wolves’s low key performance considering they had a Europa League place hinging on it. We may well gift them that anyway by winning the FA Cup Final v Arsenal. I’ve seen them blow sides off the park this season offensively yet our ‘dodgy’ defence stood up to the task pretty well and they were strangely lacklustre. I guess our pre-season starts early August after we bow out to Bayern which gives the lads a four to five week break. I wonder if there will be any pre-season matches to enable the new lads to fit in and do their stuff.

27th July 2020 at 11:19 am #134996An added bonus if Chelsea can beat Arsenal and win the FA Cup is that it gives Wolves a place in the Europa I think they deserve that.

27th July 2020 at 1:30 pm #135029“Willian could agree a new deal at Chelsea before the end of the week, with the winger’s current contract set to expire.
Frank Lampard has remained hopeful that a deal could be struck with the former Shakhtar Donetsk forward and despite offers from a host of clubs, it appears a breakthrough has been achieved over a new contract.” SSN’s 27/07
Potentially more good news? Wise Fan will be delighted.?

27th July 2020 at 1:38 pm #135030I think Willian is a top top player. Solid work rate with an abundance of skill
Heβs still got pace to burn at 32.
Be great news for Chelsea fans if he signed a new contract.

27th July 2020 at 1:47 pm #135033I watched a bit of the Swansea v Brentford game last night and Connor Gallagher has shades of Frank about him it might be a bit too early for him though next season.
As Frank looks to revamp the squad in the areas that he thinks need strengthening obviously some will have to be moved on you can only play with a squad of 25 but thatβs often easier said than done.
Two in already one out in Pedro and Harvetz seemingly on the brink which means currently two have to go and if we sign a Keeper, a left back and a Centre Back which seems likely of those three Emerson will probably go plus one of the current Centre Backs and Kepa probably back to Spain.
I can see Jorginho going back to Italy too if we can get the majority of our money back.
Thereβs also a couple who need to be moved on like Michy both for his sake as well as the Clubβs

28th July 2020 at 3:22 pm #135707“Werner explains how important Frank Lampard was in his decision to move to England.
βHe [Lampard] was the main point,β he explains. βWe talked a lot about things like system, like how he wants to play and sees me playing, and how the system fits to me. He is a really nice guy who not only told me what he wants from me as a player because he wants to help me as a guy. He knows me now a little bit better and it fits very good between us and now I am happy to be here.”
Frank was obviously a big reason behind the capture of Werner.
