Chelseaman, you make some good points.
I think that there are very very few Chelsea fans who believed we would be competing for a top 4 place with a couple of games to go and in the Semi Finals of the FA Cup before the season started and Frank and Jody have introduced a number of the best players from the Academy to the team and squad too all of whom will be better for the experience next season and by playing with players of the quality of the likes of Werner and Ziyech
We went into the season with a rookie Manager with no experience in the PL or any of the European Leagues and only one years experience of Club management in the Championship alongside that Lampard inherited a squad that could not be strengthened in the areas it needed strengthening in because of the transfer ban and the only addition to the squad was Pulisic as Kovacic was already part of the squad in the previous season.
Frank also lost the best player in the PL who if I remember correctly was responsible for around 35 of Chelsea goals last season.
Not unsurprisingly Frank has made some mistake along the way but next season he will be a more experienced and potentially a better Manager than he was at the start of this season.
I do think Frank enjoys a pretty good relationship with the media primarily because he treats them with respect and doesn’t walk out of press conferences or get aggressive with them when he’s asked a question he doesn’t like.
Looking ahead other than Liverpool and City I wouldn’t swap places with any other Club right now and in two or three seasons time there’s every chance that Chelsea will be challenging for the PL title once again.
Well that’s what Glenn Hoddle says anyway.?
Overall I think the future is looking very bright for Chelsea going forwards. Cheers 9’s

16th July 2020 at 8:16 pm #129851Not what we needed but a good win for Leicester.
Ditto United. This could be painful.
We could do with a helping hand from Spurs on Sunday it’s almost certainly 4 from 5 now.

17th July 2020 at 12:46 am #129998Unfortunate thing is we MUST get at least a point from Liverpool because if United and Leicester win their next league matches all they will need on the last day is a draw each and they are playing each other. Even then we would have to beat Wolves at home which could be a tall order. Not looking so good now.

17th July 2020 at 10:47 am #130353yes 999 agree, if not then a contrived result on the final day if a draw suits both United and Leicester is not out of the question and there is nowt the FA could do about it. Surely not !!!!

17th July 2020 at 11:18 am #13037267, I suspect Leicester would need to win at Spurs for a draw to suit both Leicester and United on the last day. A Leicester win at Spurs is not impossible but a bit unlikely imo. Fingers crossed eh. Be awful if we miss out on goal difference.???

17th July 2020 at 11:58 am #130400I look at that particular Permutation of all 3 finishing on 66 Points. Harsh for Chelsea because of the others having a more superior goal difference.
I think gaining a point (even a win) at Anfield which is perfectly possible would be vital.
There was something that was brought out in conversation last night on the Radio and as much as it would suit both parties on the final day mathematically, I don’t think morally, both Leicester and United would ‘play for a draw’ and drag out the 90 minutes. I just don’t believe there would be anti-professional or going against the Integrity of the game.
2 Games still to go, so all conjecture in essence for now and we’ve just got to wait and see what happens.

17th July 2020 at 1:33 pm #130458Spot on nil. Not very often Chelsea fans cheer on Tottenham but we all are this time around and they owe us nothing, especially since we (Hazard from memory) crashed their potential party at the Bridge a few years back.

17th July 2020 at 1:42 pm #130470Note that United play us in the FA Cup semi on Sunday and we can kick the crap out of them then they have another match Wednesday against West Ham which may be safe and relaxed after beating Watford later today. United may be knackered and Antonio might be licking his chops at the thought of another hatrick, this time at Old Trafford. What a place to get one. Well you never know 🙂

17th July 2020 at 2:14 pm #130491There are so many different permutations that it’s impossible to predict but Leicester would have to beat Spurs away for playing out a draw to work and like Nil I don’t think it would happen anyway.
Squeamy bum time though x 3 for sure. 🙂

17th July 2020 at 4:11 pm #130559Whatever may happen now and in the final two games, I’m happy with how our season has gone so far. were it not for our terrible defenders, we would have been closer to City and not in this top four dog fight. this season we have scored 64 goals and conceded 49 and our goal difference is 15+. we scored more than one goal United have scored but conceded 14 goals more. scored 3 goals less than Leicester has scored. so in terms of goal scoring, we are not disadvantaged, but in terms of defence, we are the worst. and considering that this is Frank’s first season, and Rome wasn’t built in one day, I’m hopeful that he will have the time to rebuild his defence. we never replaced John Terry though impossible to replace him.
I see a bright future for Chelsea and more progress next season. the pundit and rivals may knock Chelsea, but I’m feeling excited for the first time in years about the future for this club Real trusted Zidane without experience, the decision proved to be inspiring, Barca did that with Pep, United did that OGS, and we followed that route. the advantage for Chelsea is that Frank is a homegrown coach and has been at the club and have done it, and knows the demands as well as the supply routes. and I’m expecting his second season to even be better than now.
If i have to rate him i would give him A- for his season.

17th July 2020 at 6:12 pm #130628I agree we’ve done better than I thought we would and already secured a EL place I don’t think we should be too disappointed if we fall short of a CL place I don’t think that will be the case next season.
Tbh I think the pundits have been quite positive towards us. You don’t get much better than Glenn Hoddle predicting Chelsea will be challenging for the title in a season or two.?

18th July 2020 at 3:06 pm #131254I was reading from somewhere yesterday that Chelsea is due for £18m from Real Madrid for lifting the league, and £14m for qualifying to the CL that is £32m the original amount we have paid for Hazard, and anything else is a profit. I’m still wondering how did Marina pull that fantastic deal? and still, we are also in for more should Real Madrid win the CL which I think is next to impossible given the lead that City has.

18th July 2020 at 5:14 pm #131301Right on Chelseaman every little helps.?
Hated losing Eden but the time was right and with the injuries he’s suffered this season and the Cov19 effect even if we had got him to extend his contract on the agreement he could leave this Summer we would have been lucky to get £50m for him this Summer.
Good work by Marina as well as getting £48m for Morata.
“Chelsea will get some extra millions from Real Madrid for Eden Hazard if Real win the title tonight. There were some easy attainable bonuses in the deal – initial fee: €100m plus. #CFC were always sure they would get at least €130m.”

19th July 2020 at 8:50 am #131632If Frank goes too open today United will pick us off we certainly can’t afford another midfield of Jorginho, Barkley and Mount as per Sheffield United
I might even be tempted to play Christensen in the holding role in front of the back 4.
Kepa has to have a good game and there mustn’t be any silly defensive errors if that happens we’ll make chances and there’s every chance of an all London Final.
Could be Willie in goal though he’s been the FA Cup Keeper to date?
But it’s going to be tough against an in form United and much depends on Chelsea not making any defensive howlers which wont be easy against a very fluid and fast front 3 and somehow the effectiveness of Fernandes needs to be nullified.
United maybe looked a bit jaded v Palace and there’s been little rotation from Ole since the restart if he selects a similar team to Palace that could be to our favour.
3/4/3 or 3/5/2 anyone??

19th July 2020 at 11:39 am #131680I’m more worried about our game on Wednesday, that is the game I think which will give us £50m extra war-chest to rebuild our defence. I still think full-back and holding midfield is our biggest weakness and not centre back as people are leading to believe us. every time Zouma and Rudiger play together in recent times they kept a clean sheet. but both of our full-backs are not up to the level required to play at this level.
We also need an out and out holding midfielder who can hold and sit next to Kante and who is physically astute. if we can get a left-back who can defend plus Reece James in his second season to improve, and a holding midfielder who will sit there and protect the back four. our attack is very good with the addition of Ziyech and Werner. plus Pulisic, Mount, CHO, Barkley and Abraham that is if we can persuade Willian to extend his contract.
Our worst-case scenario could be a blessing in disguise at the same time. if God forbid we miss CL and we get the Europa, it could give us a platform to test our young and fringe players and another avenue back to the CL.

20th July 2020 at 1:11 pm #132098Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz has reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea.
Sky Italy’s Angelo Mangiante reported on Monday morning that the 21-year-old wants to join the Premier League outfit and no other team is on his mind.
Chelsea will apparently make an official bid in the coming days, with the expected transfer fee being €80 million. ???

21st July 2020 at 5:17 pm #132637Now after our heroic performance at Wembley, Frank faces a new dilemma. does he keep the energetic Mount in the starting line up or does he recall Pulisic who has a goal threat? on one hand, Mount will offer pressing and energy but his goal threat is minimal although he has scored at Wembley. and that will make us outnumber Liverpool or match them in the middle of the park. but again we need a positive result to all but guarantee our CL participation.
And on the other hand, Pulisic offers goals and assists and has that fantastic chemistry with Giroud. but the drawback from this system is that we will look shot in the middle whereas Mount would drop into the middle when he feels we are outnumbered, Pulisic won’t as he is a winger and not a central midfielder like Mount. and Frank is mindful the disadvantage of going toe to toe with Liverpool at a time when we are in a precarious position. we need to attack Liverpool but most of all stay solid defensively. an ad that is where the challenge is coming from. the only area open to change is the Mount and Pulisic area. and my heart says Pulisic but my mind says, Mount. only time will tell. but the most important part is that we still have our destiny in our own hands.
