The gulf in class was there to see. The biggest issue we had was that we had no pace to really hit Bayern with. They pressed up so high, knowing that we had no pace up front.
Lampard was kind of forced to play 3-4-3 and run the risk of our 2 man midfield getting over run by Bayerns midfield 3 because of the Kante injury.
We were never going to win the CL with this group and we will be heading out to a decent Bayern team. We had some good chances and got in to great positions. The positive is that all our younger players got a taste of high quality football.
Let’s continue the good work in the league and secure 4th spot so that when we play in the CL next season, we will be there challenging rather than just a number.

26th February 2020 at 11:40 am #76717AnonymousSorry 9’s, Dont care what Lampard thinks about Kovacic we shipped another three goals last night from players breaking into our box from midfield…. who was tracking the runs because it wasnt our midfield…
No one had a good performance last night. We were absolutely pants.
Everything we did was about stopping Bayern, we didnt impose our game on them, if we actually have one, and when we did try to close down we got picked off by a left back with outrageous pace.. mistakes, from international players, an insistence to play out from the back at all costs… we’re playing Sarri ball chaps… nothing has changed except the players.

26th February 2020 at 1:19 pm #76769Amz,great post although I think holding on to 4th place will be a major challenge I think it’s probably between us and United and they are looking a bit more together currently and Fernandes has been a good signing for them and will be a help to United in trying to chase down 4th place.
Frank was keen to make a signing or two in January to try and give us a bit more impetus in the chase for 4tn place but unfortunately for various reasons we came up short had Ajax been prepared to release Zilyich in January he could have given us the extra impetus that we needed.
I’m not sure 5th place will offer a CL place as I think the City case may not get heard by CAS in sufficient time and in that situation City will almost certainly appeal to have the ban suspended until the case can be heard and I suspect CAS will be sympathetic to that and any ban would then be held over until the 21/22 season even though it’s probably best for everyone to get the case heard before the close off date for next season’s CL.

26th February 2020 at 3:04 pm #76830first half. the constest was even with both teams having their chances. and in the second half we have had a total collapse which has been very reminicent to our recent collapses in the second half. and that is what is worrying me more than the result.

26th February 2020 at 3:19 pm #76840“Bayern had been on top for much of the first-half as well with Blues keeper Willy Caballero, making his first Champions League appearance in almost three years, saving from Lewandowski on more than one occasion and Thomas Muller hitting the bar with a back-header.”
See the above match report Chelseaman it was just a matter of time.

26th February 2020 at 6:30 pm #76923AnonymousCM I also thought the first half was almost even and if Lampard had selected a couple of different players we could have done much better in the 2nd half but once they’ve got their first 2 goals we gave up heads went down.

27th February 2020 at 6:00 am #77324Juventus lost to Lyon last night, and what is more interesting is that they haven’t had a shot on target in 95 minutes? some thing is not right at the club. at leas at Chelsea he had players who followed his instructions. i’m bot sure Sarri has that at Juventus.

27th February 2020 at 8:12 am #77401Juve are not having Serie A all their own way for the first time in a long while and Sarri went on a rant last night about the players not moving the ball quickly enough. He’s under big pressure at Juve as he was at Chelsea. Hopefully he comes through it.

27th February 2020 at 8:22 am #77408Papers today carrying suggestions of a major overhaul of the squad by Frank in the Summer it seems dramatic but I’m not sure it’s the wrong thing to do.
“Kepa Arrizabalaga: The world’s most expensive goalkeeper has been dropped in recent weeks and Lampard no longer trusts him. No good having a £72m goalkeeper sitting on your bench.
Kurt Zouma: Has had good spells this season but has since fallen behind Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori in the pecking order.
Emerson: Had the opportunity to cement the left-back position with Marcos Alonso’s injuries but failed to do so.
Marcos Alonso: Good going forward but has failed to convince Lampard with his defensive ability.
Jorginho: The vice-captain has been brilliant at times this season. Great on the ball but needs to be better without it. No doubt angered Lampard after picking up a yellow card for dissent against Bayern, meaning he’ll miss the second leg.
Ross Barkley: This was supposed to be a big season for Barkley after an impressive pre-season. But he’s been too inconsistent.
Willian: Talking of inconsistency. Willian’s contract expires in the summer as he demands a further two years with a 12-month optional extension – something the club are refusing to agree.
Pedro: Pedro’s contract also expires in the summer. He’s found opportunities very hard to come by this season, making just seven appearances in the league without scoring.”

27th February 2020 at 2:37 pm #77633Pagan – what ever it is, it isn’t working at Juve lol.
Maybe Sarri needs Jorginho to make it work?
999 4th place will be a battle but they don’t have Rashford.
We have Pulisic coming back along with RLC and CHO. As long as we have our full squad back sooner rather than later, we will pip Utd to 4th. Can’t see Utd getting a win at Everton this weekend. If we can increase that gap to 5 or 6 pts to them this weekend, thats another game ticked off and we start counting down the games left to play.

27th February 2020 at 2:46 pm #77639Seemingly according to reports Juve fans aren’t happy with Sarri either but things could still turn around for Sarri at Juve.
That’s the way I see if Amz we’ve got important players to come back and their non availability has reduced Frank’s options Pulisic, RLC and CHO coming back for us will be like 4 new signings and unlike United we are unlikely to have European football to worry about.
Bournemouth away is a big game for us let’s hope for the 3 points.

28th February 2020 at 8:29 am #7819467, Frank appears to have settled on Rudiger and Christensen as his preferred Centre Backs whether in a 3 or a 4 which currently leaves Tomori on the outside looking in.

28th February 2020 at 10:17 am #78241Anonymousno easy game this one. Bournmouth have won three of the last four league games. No idea how the team will react after this weeks result. fortunately, Bournemouth are in free fall. We simply need the three points… unfortunately, the wilsons are coming back into form and score a lot of their goals.

28th February 2020 at 1:39 pm #78363Having won the FA Youth Cup in 7 of the last 10 seasons it was another big night for the Academy a professional second-half saw our youth team secure victory in the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup at Stamford Bridge.
Armando Broja’s second-half goal was the difference between the sides at the Bridge on a night when Chelsea’s professional display earned a place in the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup.One or two of the Youth Cup squad could well come through and be part of the first team squad in a year or two. It’s important that we continue to develop our own as we can no longer spend as we once did.
