One bright side of Mount is that his setpiece deliveries are improving finally, I don’t know if it was not having many players that don’t go and attack his balls, or he was over hitting. but against Leicester, they had been superb. the boy is a goal-scoring midfielder, not sure why Frank has restricted him of late. his strengths lie in goal-scoring side and not creating goals, but it’s understandable because we don’t have that much creativity in central midfield and that may be one reason why Frank has pushed him to the central midfield area rather than a no 10 or a wing-forward, but 5 goals and 5 assists is a decent return for a 21-year-old player who is playing his first season in the English top flight.
Once Pulisic returns from injury, there will be more creativity in the side, and it will free Mount to do what he does best, now we have a winter break, and we need to assess our options because we going under a rough patch of games, and we have two games whom we cannot afford to lose next, so getting 6 points from those 2 games is a dream scenario, 4 points is an excellent result, and 2 points isn’t bad considering they are two of our immediate rivals.

3rd February 2020 at 11:43 am #67413Hey CM, Pulisic isn’t a creator, i think that he’s the type of player to get on to through balls and make runs from outside, in. We lack a player to make those Fabregas-esque passes on a consistent basis. Kovacic and Kante are work horses and Jorginho is a tempo player who sits deep. For the remainder of the season i’d like to play Pulisic and CHO out wide with Willian behind Tammy with Kante and Jorg/Kov holding. Mount will have to rotate with Willian. Also on Mount, he needs to make much more runs past Tammy

3rd February 2020 at 1:32 pm #67425We need Pulisic back asap to give us options offensively and goal wise and Tammy 100% fit which he clearly wasn’t on Saturday. We also need RLC back he could be like a big new signing for us in the run in and it’s easy to forget that despite all of our other problems we will have lost RLC for almost an entire season.

3rd February 2020 at 1:38 pm #67426“January was a month of mixed emotions for Chelsea supporters, who were promised the world by some media outlets touting them for a mass spending spree.
But despite going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in order to get the transfer ban lifted in time to sign players in January, they did not make one addition to the senior squad, leaving Frank Lampard and Blues fans disappointed.
It was not for a lack of trying, and as revealed by The Athletic, Chelsea considered a number of names this window including Jadon Sancho, Moussa Dembele, Wilfried Zaha, Edinson Cavani, Dries Mertens, and Timo Werner.
But for a number of reasons such as not being available, or inflated prices, Chelsea decided not to move these deals on.
As The Athletic reveal, Chelsea were determined not to repeat the mistakes of the recent past such as the summer of 2017, with what they describe as being ‘pressure from Antonio Conte’ which made them spend around £55 million on deadline-day deals for Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta ‘that the club are still reckoning with.’
As a result, Chelsea decided to prioritise their transfer business in the summer, taking a gamble that Frank Lampard will reach the top 4 this season.” Simon Phillips Chelsea News

I don’t disagree with much of what you have raised. but to say Pulisc is not capable of creating goals is not something i agree with you. Pulsic is capable of creating goals, we have seen that earlier in the season that he can give assists. but his confidence is so fragile, and a little period of drought can affect his confidence.
I think Mount is a goal scorer, but because as you we have work horses in central midfield, Frank pushes him to create from central midfield. Kovacic and Kante remains our best partnership, although i’m unfair to Jorginho. but for me Chelsea comes first. also i don’t agree with you on the CHO, while he has an undoubted potential, i think he needs to go back to the basics, at a times i feel he is eager to impress by over doing stuff, he needs to play simple.
I also raised the losa of Fabregas on the Chelsea site the other day, and i still feel that we need to find that kind of player, or we couldn’t do worse by resigning him and using him sparlingly to mentor B. Gilmour.?

3rd February 2020 at 2:46 pm #67430Yeah CHO has been average at best. Hopefully he keeps improving with the game time he is getting. Plus if he doesn’t improve, then it not because he hasn’t had the chances.
As 9 said, getting RLC back will be like a new signing and adding more physicality and goal threat from midfield.

3rd February 2020 at 3:39 pm #67432AnonymousHey lads, Just a few thoughts seeing peoples posts.
Mount, like CHO, like Pulisic, like RLC, like James, like any other youngster breaking into this side will blow hot and cold. Mount has been out of form for about two/ three months. Defenders have wised up to him, he simply needs to keep his work ethic going because the breaks will come and confidence should return.
CHO, actually, Is one of our more consistent performers stats wise. He has played a total of 768 minutes producing 4 assists and scoring one goal. That’s one goal or assist every 153 minutes. That’s better than Willian, Mount. Im more than happy for Willian to move on in the summer. Great pro but Chelsea need to be more deadly and the team is changing.
Pulisic is our greatest threat in the side this season – every 133 minutes, he’ll either score or create a goal.
Very little has changed in midfield terms, Kovacic, Kante, Jorginho is more often than not the midfield three. (Sarri boo boys take note who derided him for not knowing what he was doing… Lampard continues to play Kante in the advanced pressing role) I suspect when RLC returns Kante pushes Jorginho out of the side or so im praying for that. Jorginho offers nothing creative going forward and cannot defend without someone shielding him, he also picks up a card for bringing down a player in the center circle every game. Its cynical and proves he isnt yet up to speed with the premiership, that or he is in the wrong position. Hoping city offer 80 million for him. Frank is simply playing the cards he’s been dealt this season.
Bet he cant wait to have RLC back, averaged a return of goal/assist every 122 minutes from any position on the park, he gives the side a swagger…. CFC will have the nucleaus of a very attacking side keeping Mount, RLC, CHO and Pulisic fit. Add an improving Tammy to the mix and we should be alright for goals.

3rd February 2020 at 6:22 pm #67437I still don’t know why Frank is avoiding using Giroud. now it’s certain that he willbe in our books until tue summer. just use him. he is an alternative to Abraham. and our attacking midifielders would benefit having him.

3rd February 2020 at 6:52 pm #67440Chelseaman, the problem is that Giroud hasn’t been a great fit in how Frank wants to play so we might have to adapt a tad to play him but I think he will get picked a bit more going forwards and I think we probably owe him that with the Euros coming up having denied him the move. And he does give us a totally different alternative to Tammy or indeed Michy.Cheers 9’s

4th February 2020 at 9:17 am #67450When Giroud has played, we hardly put crosses in the box. I was scratching my head with this. We need to play James and Alonso when Giroud plays as they can put in great crosses, especially James.
I agree with 442, We can do better than Jorginho and put Kante back in a holding role, allowing for a more creative player to fill in. Having RLC back will be a big boost.

4th February 2020 at 1:33 pm #67466At some point, we may need to use Giroud, because he would have benefited those crosses that Reece James is putting into the box, which we have no one attacking or very little attacking. at this stage, I would have played him alongside Abraham in 4-4-2 0r 3-5-2 formation to give defences food for thought. because our next game will be against United, and we have struggled to break them down recently, and they have played counter-attacking by sitting deep and soaking up pressure. so having two strikers in the box would maximize our chances of scoring against them.

4th February 2020 at 3:03 pm #67475Chelsea are preparing to hand Frank Lampard a summer war chest in excess of £150million to offset his disappointment at the club’s failure to sign any players in January.
The Blues head coach was visibly frustrated on deadline day as they were unable to bolster their attacking options, despite Lampard making it clear they needed a striker to ease the burden on Tammy Abraham.
Chelsea explored deals for a number of short-term options, including Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Dries Mertens, of Napoli, before deciding to wait for their top targets to become available.
Standard Sport understands Lyon forward Moussa Dembele is currently their preferred centre-forward signing. The Ligue 1 side were unwilling to do business last month, but Dembele is expected to become available this summer.
It is unclear at this early stage what price Lyon would demand for the 23-year-old, but he is likely to command a fee in excess of £60m.
Another shortlisted player, Timo Werner, admitted on Monday he would be interested in a move to England.
“I am open for everything,” said the 23-year-old RB Leipzig striker. “I was in America for a holiday recently and English football was on all the time. That’s an exclamation mark for the Premier League. But there are also big, famous clubs and it would certainly be fun playing there.”
Werner has scored 25 goals in 28 appearances this season and has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.
Chelsea will also be in the market for a winger, as Pedro is expected to depart on a free transfer when his contract expires in June. Willian is in the same situation and although the Blues are hopeful of agreeing an extension, talks reached an impasse some time ago over the length of any new contract, with the 31-year-old Brazilian seeking a minimum two-year deal and a significant increase on his £110,000-a-week wage.
The Blues hold a serious interest in Jadon Sancho, whose return to England is anticipated this summer as he continues his fine form for Borussia Dortmund. The 19-year-old is valued in excess of £100m and a prominent showing for England at Euro 2020 could see his asking price soar.
Chelsea are not put off by that valuation, although they will face competition from Manchester City and United for his signature. Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha and Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech are among several other wide options being looked at.
Lampard is believed to have been given assurances he will be backed in the summer after expecting additions to the squad last month, a devel8opment which would have enabled Olivier Giroud to depart.”
Chelsea were only able to enter the market last month after having their Fifa transfer ban reduced to one window.
Lampard was keen on making additions because of the strains placed on a young squad only bolstered by the summer arrival of Christian Pulisic from Dortmund and Mateo Kovacic’s loan move from Real Madrid being made permanent.” Evening Standard 4/02
Here’s hoping and the £150m is plus sales out perhaps we need a Summer wish list thread now!?

4th February 2020 at 3:15 pm #67480Ruben Loftus-Cheek took another step forward on his long road to recovery today, featuring in a behind-closed-doors development squad friendly against Brentford B.
Loftus-Cheek has been out with an Achilles injury since May. Frank Lampard reported recently he had returned to training with the men’s team, and as part of his rehabilitation he played an hour at Cobham for our development squad this morning. He will continue to build up his fitness in the coming weeks.Good news and another step in the right direction for Ruben.?

4th February 2020 at 8:02 pm #67488Of course the £150m transfer budget for January was purely media speculation as is the £150m transfer budget for the Summer currently being speculated on by the media.
The Club have never announced what any transfer budget might be and nor should they.
I think we have to remember that we lost £100m in our last financial year and personally I think it’s unlikely that the Club will be able to provide more funds than £150m bar sales out for transfer spending in the Summer remembering of course that we can no longer rely on Romans funding due to FFP and we have to be self sufficient as a Club.
It’s probably unlikely depending on who we decide to sign to strengthen all the areas we might think we need to strengthen in one transfer window.
Would we prefer we had a transfer pot of £250m + together with all the monies raised from sales out ? Of course we would. But I guess we have to be realistic.?

I have been hearing this ‘Chelsea are preparing to hand Frank Lampard a summer war chest in excess of £150million’ thing for quite some time now. and I’m beginning to doubt that. but anyway I would reserve my judgement until the summer. but I fear that the summer won’t be as we may be thinking.

4th February 2020 at 10:32 pm #67503Proof of the pudding and all that mate but we shall see.
Realistically though Chelsea spent £100m on transfers before the ban kicked in by buying Pulisic and Kovacic so I think there’s every chance especially as we are sitting on the Hazard money and we’ll pick up nearly £69m from Atletico in the Summer for Morata. But time will tell.

5th February 2020 at 10:28 pm #67576This fortnight break could do wonders for the run in. As our starting eleven for our matches appears to consist of a group of about 17 odd players and some get minimal rest this might just be the refresher that they need, especially after such a busy Christmas/New Year period. Sure, that would be the case for all the clubs but I think our circumstances with so much inexperience/ not being used to paying at that level with that intensity week in, week out, may just benefit more so than those clubs with the pros that have done it all, year in, year out.

6th February 2020 at 8:35 am #67583We haven’t beaten United since OGS has taken their the reigns, our record against them reads 3 loses and 1 draw. and we need to reverse that record in our next meeting if we are to succeed in the race for top 4. this fixture came at a time when we are having difficulties, it could play in to our hands if we approach at the right way. not giving any space between our midifled and defence will be key to our prospect of winning that game.
I have rewatched the reverse fixture and just noticed the mistakes we have made in that game. we have given enough spaces between the lines. and that was due to the fact that Jorginho lacks the pace to close those spaces quickly. and Kovacic have been playing that far from him. Kante will give us an an interesting option. so in this game i would play 3-4-3. Kepa, Rudiger, Christensen, Tomori, James, Alonso. Kant
e Kovacic, Mount, Abraham Willian. what is your take on this match?_____________________________
