Difficult to disagree with too much of that Chelseaman. Individual errors as much as anything else cost us tonight.

22nd January 2020 at 8:00 am #61192You guys would know better then me but is Tomori and Rudiger not the best centre half pairing?
Really like Tomori I have to say.
4th is there for Chelsea but they are doing their best to throw it away
Should have been game over at 1-0 and down to ten men

22nd January 2020 at 11:22 am #61226AnonymousDont know about the rest of you but quite pleased with a point. Just need to get a run going for a few games. I think the crowd at the bridge could help things along, Sounded like a grave yard at points during the second half.

22nd January 2020 at 1:42 pm #61233Sean, I think you’ve hit on one of our problems I don’t think Frank knows who is his best Centre Back pairing. Tbh I think Tomori is currently injured?
Rio touched on something last night too in comparing the problems that De Gea had at United and his problems with dealing with crosses and how United employed Vidic who was great aerially to help solve that problem with Rio comparing Kepa’s vulnerability to crosses and having no Centre Back of Vidic’s quality aerially.
I think Chelsea have to buy a really dominant Centre Back in the Summer with real aerial ability to help Kepa out in this area. And then they have to form a regular partnership and we need to stick with it so they develop as previous Chelsea Centre Back partnerships.
Kepa is a very good shot stopper but he’s currently suffering a loss of confidence which often happens with Keepers but he’s got to sort out his feet and his passing out which puts unnecessary pressure on the defence.

22nd January 2020 at 2:00 pm #61237Frank talking loan signings last night and keeping his powder dry until the Summer. Given our requirements itβs difficult to predict who may or may not be available on loan.
Gonzalo Higuain??
“Lampard had already made signing an attacker a priority before Abraham clattered into the advertising boards. He played on but had to be helped off the pitch at the end of the game.
“You can’t say we will definitely sign a striker but we are looking,” he said.
“If you don’t score enough goals then you won’t win enough games.”
Abraham was helped from the field at the end of a 2-2 draw against an Arsenal side who played with 10 men for over an hour and Chelsea do not know how long he will be missing.
“I hope he’s not (out for several weeks), but then if he is then yes, we do have the players to cope.
“But we can’t finish,” he said.
“We get into the box and we could have had three or four goals today. We are having shots, having crosses and lots of ‘ooh’ moments for the crowd.
“But we have to be clinical. Do we need to put the ball in the back of the net more? Yes. That’s clear. Our chance conversion is one of the worst in the league.”
Chelsea have scored five more goals than Tottenham in the Premier League this season but have had nearly 70 more shots on goal – while only Manchester City have missed as many ‘big chances’ in the division.
Abraham will be checked over on Wednesday with Chelsea only confirming that he had ice on the injury after the game. He is the latest England striker to be injured after Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford.
“When gameday comes you have to have the killer instinct,” Lampard added.
“We’ve not got that at the moment. We can’t be nervous.” BBC Football.

23rd January 2020 at 5:19 pm #61454I don’t know why we are not utilising the services if Giroud since he is in our books. i was hearing the Cavani bid has fallen through. as his father is pushing for Athletico Madrid. Michy is not an answer to our striker problem.

23rd January 2020 at 6:10 pm #61463Chelseaman, Giroud is a good player problem is Giroud is not a condistent goalscorer along the lines of Cavani which is why Chelsea have shown an interest in Cavani.
I don’t think Giroud or Michy are the answer to our scoring problems but they are valuable back ups to Tammy if he’s injured or we need to try something different.
I think it’s unlikely that we will get Cavani but its worth trying imo the latest news suggests we are still trying for Dembele which will probably be equally as difficult.
The reality is that we will probably need to wait until the Summer before we can make the signings we need to make but let’s wait and see what another week brings.
If we don’t sign anyone offensively in January I don’t think we will let Giroud go in January.

23rd January 2020 at 7:30 pm #61479Weβve had some poor results just lately, and the focus is on the strikers for not scoring enough, and the defence conceding too many, these need to be looked at as how weβre playing as a team not as individual errors.
Goal scoring, Tammy is a fox in the box, however he needs room to operate, weβre far too slow going forward, by the time the ball gets played into the opposition box thereβs 6+ players in it defending, so no room. We play more intricate passing in our own box rather than moving the ball forward quickly. If anyone has a recording of the first Arsenal game, have a look at what happened after they scored, we didnβt get out of our own half for two minutes, by which time theyβd had to attempts on our goal. Tuesday again we went one up against ten men and were taking a dozen passes to get out of our own half, Iβve seen more forward passes in rugby.
Defensive wise, we push up slowly and camp in their half, switching the play slowly usually four or five passes each way, the defenders get higher and higher to join in, we lose the ball, they break at speed and we concede.
This is not a criticism of any individual, itβs a team thing where the mentality seems to be trying not to make any errors rather than taking the game to the opposition, in short weβre playing to our weaknesses rather than our strengths….Pagan

23rd January 2020 at 7:48 pm #61483Looks like Giroud to Inter transfer is now off as Inter has signed Fernando Lollerente as a backup. and the likelihood is that he will stay at Chelsea. I would rather us try 4-4-2 formation with him playing alongside Abraham. with Kovacic and Kante as the two midfield, plus Willian and Hudson Odoi as the wingers. unless we do that, 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 are not working for us.

23rd January 2020 at 8:06 pm #61487The midfield and the wide players aren’t contributing enough goals there’s too much reliance on Tammy. A fit Pulisic will be a help.

23rd January 2020 at 11:07 pm #61539Currently, our problems lie in individual mistakes than lack of goals from our midfield. our goalkeeper is pants, I was reading his starts from one website, and they had placed him the ninth-best goalkeeper in the league. that is not enough for a team that is competing for the top 4. also our defense is not stable. and part of that stems out from deploying Jorginho in front of them rather than Kante.
Frank also needs to settle for a midfield two. either it should be Jorginho and Kante or Kante and Kovacic or Kovacic and Jorginho. our back four is not always stable. Frank needs to settle for consistent back four. in this case, Rudiger and Tomori are the best available currently. or Rudiger Zouma is not bad. but I’m not comfortable with Christensen out there. play Barkley 4-6 games in a row. and deploy him in the no 10 positions behind Tammy. and encourage him to shoot and go forward. the only problem is that while Pulisic can contribute goals. he is not Frank’s favorite son. both Willian and CHO don’t contribute enough goals. and both are Frank’s favorite boys and that is where the rain started beating us. we need Willian, but he is not known to score enough goals. so deploy him in the 10 position and let someone who can score goals take that wing and i think our strong interest from Sancho stems from there. but I don’t think we can be stupid enough to brush Willian aside.

24th January 2020 at 6:25 am #61617AnonymousOn of the main problems is a lack of shots at goal, passing to the left, passing to the right, passing backwards it’s as if Sarriball never left. Look at other teams not only in the EPL but also in the Championship how they score goals from distances and different angles. As for our keeper he suffers from mental paralysis half the game.

24th January 2020 at 2:41 pm #61754Mav, the rumours have emanated from the media and I doubt Frank has shared his thoughts with them I wouldn’t rule out something happening in the Summer though.
From the horse’s mouth via the Standard Mav:
“Lampard insists he is not looking to sign a goalkeeper – but the Chelsea boss has told Kepa Arrizabalaga that he must learn to deal with the critics after a run of poor form.
Standard Sport understands that Kepa faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, while Burnley and England keeper Nick Pope has reportedly been flagged as a possible replacement in the summer transfer window.
The former Athletic Bilboa star currently boasts the unwanted tag of the lowest save percentage in the Premier League, and Lampard has told him to go back to basics to return to top form.
“Well he will have to deal with outside criticism; that is what football is,” said Lampard.
“Every player, no matter great you are in your career, the best, the absolute best of all time will get criticised and you have to deal with it.
“I think with Kepa he knows, he’ll be honest that there have been some mistakes that have cost us goals.
“It is the nature of it, so that needs to improve. Goalkeepers may have slightly more spotlight on them, but it is a similar thing, really. I think the important thing for that is not to get too embroiled in what is said on the outside and look at your own game.
“It is always the basics, how hard can I work. That’s not just for Kepa, but for any player.
“If you feel in a lack of form, fight to get it back. Go back to basics.”
Regarding Chelsea’s reported interest in Burnley keeper Pope, Lampard says he is not seeking to add another body between the sticks this month.
Asked if he wanted to recruit another goalkeeper, Lampard added: “I am not looking at it now.
“I am not affected by criticism from the outside as much. I am aware of it, not affected by it.”

24th January 2020 at 2:43 pm #61755“I think the impetus to bring in a striker or a player to get on the end of chances is there. The recent games have shown that. When you are creating 20 chances a game it is clear.
βWith Olivier [Giroud] it is the same situation. There has been contact from other clubs. Heβs still our player.
βThere is choice. Itβs not the ideal window, history has proven that. It is about getting the choice right. The club know my thoughts on it.β
Frank in his pre match press conference today “there is choice” suggests something might happen between now and next Friday.

24th January 2020 at 10:05 pm #61827Loftus-Cheek is a very important player and will prove to a big help to our push for the top 4. at the start I was worried that he will not make into the team as Mount was doing excellent. and Barkley has been good. but now I see him as the solution to our creative and midfield goal scoring problems.
