Paxton… Ive said on here Abraham is actually a natural fox in the box type striker. When down the leagues plying his trade very few goals were scored from outside the box. Inside it and he is pretty lethal. Having said that, 13 premier league goals at this stage of the season is actually a great return for a young man learning to play at the top level and is adapting his game to be more than a finisher… Will he get there. The signs bode well, what did Harry Kane look like when he broke through to your side? Pretty decent wasnt he. Lets see if he develops his game.
Mount has dropped off the pace and in an ideal world would have been rotated this season with barkley and Ruben Loftus Cheek. For whatever reason, that hasnt happened through bad luck, injury and partying.
CHO has had a very serious injury and it’ll take him a fair number of games to get back up to speed imo. A very bright prospect but he needs to start winding it up a bit. Im not entirely sure he wants to be at Chelsea either. Anyhow, This season has a similar feeling to last, if we do get 4th, it’ll be a scrap for it but I cant help think other teams around us will continue to loose points. Like last season, and Chelsea fans blamed sarri for qualifying fourth because other teams were toss… So be good to see what excuse is presented should Lampard guide this side to 4th with other teams dropping points like last year.
After 23 games last year, we had won 14, drawn 5, lost 4
After 23 games this year, we have won 12, drawn 4, lost 8Weve scored 39 goals this season last season we had scored 40 at this point.
We had conceded 19 goals this time last year, this year weve shipped 30.We also had Hazard in the side last year… Chelsea dont miss Eden, he’s turned up in McDonalds and Burger King but not at the Bernabeu… Great business by chelsea. Hazards legs had gone.
Tottenham were four points clear of us last year, Liecester are five.
So, fair to say, inexperience and not having a stable back line has seen the goals against tally rocket, yet we’ve scored more goals than this time last year. But we are seeing a new team emerge that has replaced Sarri’s side from last year. Hence why it is crucial to back Lampard in the summer window, possibly the January one too and give him next season to cement his ideas into this very young crop of players.
Essentially, were roughly at the same point we were under Sarri, but with a new team that’s younger and hungrier… Lots to be happy about if your a patient chelsea fan.

21st January 2020 at 11:05 am #61131Anonymous442 – Chelsea, on the whole, has been just fine and I agree they are probably ahead of where they were they were expected to be. whether that’s to do with Chelsea being better than expected or the likes of spurs arsenal man u being utter shite doesn’t really matter if they end up top 4. they need to spend money though.

21st January 2020 at 1:02 pm #61141AnonymousPax… yeah, there are a few births in the chelsea side that need refreshing… TBH, i was fearful for frank at the start of the season, turns out that despite the defence becoming more leaky, we’re still up contending for a top four spot. Well done him and players.
Im enjoying the ride as Klopp says. It’s been too long and weve seen too much talent pass through the academy so I’ll take the losses knowing we’re improving.
I suspect your lot are going to be back in the mix by the middle of feb/ march. Jose said he wanted improvements and time to work with the squad in January. He would have been delighted with the shutout against Watford despite what he said in post match. He loves a side thats hard to beat. Just got to find a solution to your two year long search for a Kane deputy.
Oh to again have the feeling Liverpool fans have sitting atop the tree.

21st January 2020 at 1:37 pm #61146442, more importantly we’re starting to learn how to play football again, give the ball to Hazard is park footy for the under 10s.
Hopefully we develop a style, buy in players that suit the said style if there’s not a home grown option, and then push on over the next couple of seasons……Pagan

21st January 2020 at 2:57 pm #61149I think if we’re all honest as Chelsea fans we are probably in a better place than we thought we might be.
There was always going to be ups and downs with young players and that’s what we’re seeing now with Mount who is probably also suffering from a bit of fatigue.
Too much of an expectation for Callum Hudson Odoi this season was always a risk given the seriousness of the injury he was coming back from but there still have been some really positive signs from him and Reece James has been a revelation.
As for Tammy many thought including Chelsea fans that he wouldn’t be able to repeat his scoring feats at Villa in the Championship for Chelsea in the PL but he has and he’s on target to match Harry Kane’s first season in the PL and given the striker Kane is that’s some feat but Tammy is still young and he is still developing hopefully he will continue on a similar path.
Versus Newcastle Chelsea fielded 5 Academy players very few top teams have done that since the Class of 92.
Whether we can achieve a top 4 place with what we have I think is open to conjecture and it might depend on whether we can add a bit more quality in the right areas between now and the end of the month currently that looks unlikely but you just never know.
Personally pre season I thought a top 6 finish was our best possible outcome this season and then kick on with some new signings in the Summer which would hopefully propel us into a regular CL place from there and hopefully that’s achievable.
All in all I have confidence in Frank and his team all of whom will get better with experience as will our young developing players with others continuing coming through too and if we as a Club can buy well in the Summer Liverpool are testimony as to how that can drive you forward.
As others have touched on I’m enjoying the way we are trying to play and I’m confident going forwards that we are going in the right direction under Frank and his team. #thefuturesbrightthefuturesblue ?

21st January 2020 at 3:19 pm #61150AnonymousPaxton, winning is addictive, hoping frank passes that on to this crop, Jose definitely will with your lot. Think spurs are the bigger threat tbh than United given rashford is out again.
Pagan, love Eden but it was really very predictable with him in the side, it was built around him after all. If he was off form, we’d struggle.
I am enjoying the frank change. Just think we need better delivery into the final third.
9’s I feared worse than sixth buddy… I’ll

21st January 2020 at 3:25 pm #61151Whatever anyone may have thought of Hazard as Frank has touched on 16 goals and 15 assists in the PL takes some replacing.

21st January 2020 at 3:36 pm #61156Anonymous999 (and all Chelsea fans) – out of curiosity, why do you think there was so much expectation on Hudson odoi? last season he did absolutely nothing. think people saw him take a few players on and all of a sudden Bayern want him and then he’s on over 100k a week. in the premier league, he’s got 1 goal and 4 assists in 25 games. that’s this season and last season. is a bit if pace all you need to be considered elite? sounds like I’m shitting on Chelsea here but I’m not. just don’t get the hype around a few players.

21st January 2020 at 5:01 pm #61161He’s looked a talent at every level Paxton.
Sarri where he never got a run of gsmes and the injury disrupted his season last season.
If Bayern wanted him they obviously saw something in him too how he develops from here will decide what level of player he will be but he’s still only 19 with plenty of developing to do.

21st January 2020 at 5:03 pm #61162Hudson Odoi has shown a lot of promise before his injury. and you would say his chance came as a result of the Bayern bid, the match-going fans and the board who has shown their trust and willingness to keep Hudson Odoi. he has had six goals last season without starting even half a dozen of games. but that unfortunate injury has robbed him of some preseason preparations to understand the system that Frank wants to play. he and Kante are playing catch up in terms of match fitness and tactical understanding of the Frank’s set up.
There is no doubt that if he regains his pre-injury form, Hodson Odoi will be a valuable asset to our push for the top 4 this season. but so far we are only judging him on half a dozen games he has played after returning from that horrible injury, a lot will come from him. but that needs patience and hope that he doesn’t get another injury.

21st January 2020 at 10:20 pm #61177Two very frustrating games within a few days where we’ve ended up dropping 3 points we shouldn’t have dropped.
Conceding a goal from your own corner is inexcusable despite the Kante slip.
If we can’t bring anyone in in January I really can’t see us holding on to 4th place and worryingly it looks like Tammy is injured although he probably wouldn’t have played at Hull anyway.

21st January 2020 at 10:34 pm #61178Can’t even beat 10 men with a goal lead and a team as defensively fragile as Arsenal. The only good thing is I wasn’t robbed of any sleep with a 7.15 am kick off.
Can’t say I saw one good performance amongst our lot. I reckon Reece James would have made a big difference in this one. Pity he wasn’t fit to play.

21st January 2020 at 10:35 pm #61179Very poor performance again at home and against ten men in the first half is disappointing. another disastrous Kante performance, I’m wondering how long will Lampard keep in the team with that position and that kind of performance? is either he plays in his right position or he benches now. no more option left from here. Emerson has long been dead. so we need to restore Alonso. we have nothing to lose from here. and revert to 3-4-3 formation with Alonso and Reece James as wingbacks. Kante and Kovacic as the two midfielders, and a front trio of anyone who can score goals. I have now understood why we want Cavani! that chance which Michy has squandered in injury time sealed his fate. we cannot be making schoolboy errors and giving teams the opportunity to score against us. at this rate, we risk losing the Europa league if we don’t improve. that is why monthly ranting. otherwise, I hope we improve our attack this month.

21st January 2020 at 10:51 pm #61180Ironically I think Arsenal going down to 10 men worked against Chelsea because Arsenal then sat deep and looked to hit us on the break which has been our Achilles heel this season.
You can’t be conceding a goal from your own corner and why didn’t someone kick the ball out so Tammy could get treatment that’s sensible game management and it would have taken the fizz out of the game with Arsenal searching for an equaliser.
Tammy limping is a worry.

Willian’s performance of late has been disastrous and with him not signing a new contract and so many distractions with teams wanting him. I don’t know why we have not utilized Pedro. at least he runs behind the defenses. that is one thing that our wingers are not good at. only Abraham does and with two or three center-backs marking him. it’s difficult for him. we need someone who can run behind the defenses. these front trios are not doing that. I’m disappointed with Willian because he is our most senior player this season. and his form since Spurs have been patchy so far. Christensen? I’m not still comfortable with him at our back four. bring back Tomori, we are missing his calm head at our back.

21st January 2020 at 11:53 pm #61183We desperately need a CB, winger and striker. CHO needs to step up massively, he’s come back from a log term injury but we are over half way through the season now.
William has dipped back to being average and we miss James. Last point and this is something we can change instantly, non of our CMs run past Tammy in to the box…
