10th January 2020 at 1:07 pm #58165“Inter Milan officials have held talks with Olivier Giroud’s agents and agreed terms for a January transfer, Sky in Italy are reporting.
The France striker, whose Blues deal expires in the summer, has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract to join the Italian side.
However, Inter have yet to agree a deal with Chelsea, who are asking for between £6.8m (€8m) and £8.5m (€10m).”
If the above is accurate you would think that Chelsea will be bringing in another striker?
Bit dangerous if we don’t as we’ve seen previously what happens if you go with just two strikers and end up relying on false 9’s etc.

11th January 2020 at 2:06 pm #58228“The Soccer Saturday panel agree that Olivier Giroud would be the ideal replacement for Harry Kane if Tottenham were to make a bid for the Chelsea striker.” Sky Sports.
Hopefully Chelsea aren’t foolish enough to help strengthen a top 4 rival at the same time if they don’t sign a replacement for Giroud weakening their own top 4 challenge.
Any monies received for Giroud even from Inter will be irrelevant by comparison to what can be earned from a CL finish if it weakens the squad and a top 4 place is missed.

12th January 2020 at 1:04 pm #58957Chelsea have wrapped up a deal for Norwegian starlet Bryan Fiabema who becomes the club’s first January signing, with the teenager meeting his new teammates after Saturday’s win over Burnley. The 16-year-old former Tromso talent – who joins the academy rather than the first-team squad – had a trial with the Blues at the end of last year and impressed enough to earn a permanent move.
According to Norwegian outlet VG, he signed a three-and-a-half year contract on Friday morning at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground. He was then invited to watch Saturday’s thumping 3-0 victory over Burnley in a box before being invited down to the dressing room to meet the squad. where Fiabema posed for a photo with Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is represented by the same agency, First Access Sports, while he also got to meet Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
His contract will turn professional as soon as he turns 17 next month, on February 16, and Chelsea have paid a small compensation fee to Tromso. According to VG, the Norwegian club will receive around £860,000 for Fiabema and will also receive a small percentage of any resale should he leave the club.

13th January 2020 at 6:33 pm #60089Mav, the reports I’ve seen suggest its £50m? Still silly money but that’s United’s fault!?
I do like Dunk but Chelsea are currently linked with more players than you can shake a stick at and it’s difficult to know what links have any real credibility to them.
I suspect any deals wont happen until the last 48 hours of the window.

14th January 2020 at 6:38 am #60446£50m for Dunk at 28 and more importantly unproven. No thanks. Rather spend the extra and get a better version of him in Koulibaly.

Be careful what you wish for mate. Dunk is a good defender who will improve our leaky defence. while he is unproven at the top, Koulibaly is unproven in this league either. so i wouldn’t be paying that amount of figure for either of them. but if push comes to shove, Dunk looks more secure gamble than Koulibaly. besides remember the last centre back we have signed from a midtable team was Cahill and people said he would struggle because he is unproven at the top. how did that turn out to be?

14th January 2020 at 8:20 am #60492Amz, I agree with you re Koulibaly but allegedly he’ll cost £100m he has a 150m buy out clause and De Laurentiis is notoriously impossible to deal with.
Allegedly Frank would like to make a couple of signings this window supposedly a defender and an offensive player we are linked with so many currently Dunk being the latest it’s difficult to know what’s true and what’s paper talk.
I still think it will be tough to make the right signings in January and if they wouldn’t be on our list in the Summer I think it’s best to keep our powder dry.

14th January 2020 at 8:49 am #60508CM – Koulibaly is unproven in the premier league but he’s played in the CL for many seasons, he is huge and has decent amount of pace so i would not worry one bit about having to adapt.
If you want CFC to win big things we need a couple of big name players in the right positions

14th January 2020 at 8:51 am #60511Cahill came in to a team with some world class players. We only have Kante in that bracket.
I’d be happy not signing anyone and keeping everyone this window and buy properly in summer.

It looks like we don’t see eye to eye when it comes to Koulibaly. let us not forget that Napoli is struggling under his stewardship, aren’t they? and besides that, I won’t be happy if we pay that huge amount for a soon to be a 30-year-old player who has no experience in the PL. and we all know this league is unforgiving to the high profile signings. many of those flops we have bought were proven in the CL, but their pedigree in the CL hasn’t helped them settle the league. if we had to choose one, Dunk over Koulibaly who will cost an arm and leg to sign him from his current club who are also struggling currently.

14th January 2020 at 1:25 pm #60525Chelseaman, Koulibaly is a beast mate and I understand where Amz is coming from re buying the best that’s what Liverpool did with VVD and the rest is history.
Both players are 28 Dunk will cost less than Koulibaly both are overpriced imo and neither would have any resale value.
I don’t think we’ve been linked to Koulibaly lately ultimately though it will be Frank’s call but if we buy a Centre Back in the January window I think it’s more likely to be Dunk than Koulibaly.

14th January 2020 at 2:23 pm #60537Dunk will be a panic buy and we will be stuck with him and not get the right profile of CB we need.
CM – yes we do have different opinions but we both want the best for Chelsea 🙂

Good point Amz.
Time will tell on what happens in January. I trust in Frank and his philosophy of we won’t buy anyone that in his opinion doesn’t improve the squad so we’ll have to wait and see.

14th January 2020 at 3:51 pm #60551ok Amz you are right. we both want the best for Chelsea. but if we can get £20-£30m for Dunk, i think he will be a goos buy. but what if we buy Koulibaly for £80-£100m at bargain price and he fails? i hope Frank and the club have also explored this scenario when we go for Dunk(if at all we want him as it is a media speculation currently).

14th January 2020 at 4:22 pm #60560CM you can say the same about buying messi neymar mbappe. Every big transfer is a risk.
I’d take Dunk for £30m but i liken him to the same ability as Rudiger. Good but not great. We need a great defender if we really want to challenge Liverpool.
Going for Dunk will cement a place in the top 4 for a few seasons but never to challenge for the PL and CL
