Predicted team v Forest from the Express:
Caballero; Lamptey, Christensen, Zouma, Emerson; Kovacic, Gilmour, Barkley; Pedro, Hudson-Odoi, Batshuayi
????
I do think we need to make changes and give some players a rest hopefully whoever is chosen is good enough to take us into the 4th round especially wearing that special kit celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the 1970 FA Cup win.

4th January 2020 at 8:19 am #57812Would be good to see that side play. If they got through it would be a bonus however resting pretty much everybody else for a weekend at least has to be the way to go after the busy 4 weeks just passed and with 4th spot our main focus for the club’s finances with more CL football next season.

4th January 2020 at 8:28 am #5781467, yes and we could have all the big hitters on the bench if they were needed.
My only concern is that this is the only trophy realistically that we have any chance of winning and we need to take it seriously but as you rightfully say 67 the last few weeks will have been a strain on those that started most games.

4th January 2020 at 8:31 am #57815Allegedly Frank is prepared to let Pedro, Giroud and Alonso leave in January providing we can find suitable replacements which if accurate probably makes bringing players in in the January window even trickier with the need to move players out to make way for any incomings.

4th January 2020 at 10:20 am #57820Alonso is a strange one because he has a big impact offensively in some games and can even stand out. Defensively, I guess, is his real issue. Emerson has gone off a bit. His last few efforts have been, well, ordinary.
On a different tack, saw this Mason Mount Podcast which some may not have come across, so I thought I’d attach it here.

5th January 2020 at 3:04 pm #57845Batshuayi a major liability. Three clear heading chances off target from peach Reece James crosses and got in the road of a Pedro shot at goal. 2-0 up at half time and doing it in a canter however a borderline VAR penalty decision for offside taken from Forest which may have put more pressure on us than there is. Goals Hudson-Odoi and Barkley. Expecting more in the 2nd half.

5th January 2020 at 4:50 pm #57851When Chelsea bought Michy he was a player on the up, we have successfully knocked the stuffing out of him. He’s sat on the bench watching for the vast majority of the time he’s been actually at Chelsea, if you played better football the more you watched it, most of us on here would be world class…..Pagan

5th January 2020 at 5:50 pm #57860AnonymousNow we all know why Lampard is looking for a striker to compete with Abraham. Actually thought all the older experienced players were poor today

5th January 2020 at 6:25 pm #57868Tbh I think Michy is done at Chelsea, for various reasons it hasn’t worked out for him which is a shame. Now it’s in both the Club’s and Michy’s best interests to permanently move on and if it doesn’t happen in January and it won’t if we can’t sign a striker then I will be surprised if it doesn’t happen in the Summer.
Suggestions that today Hudson Odoi was getting back to something like his pre injury form and his goal will hopefully be a confidence booster for him going forwards.
A confident fully firing Hudson Odoi could be a major asset in our chase for a top 4 place.

5th January 2020 at 6:46 pm #578709, you’re right, he has to move on, primarily for himself, Chelsea failed to develop him due to him always being behind a big name forward and not playing. I truly believe a fresh start will see him go on to be a good player.
On another note I think I read somewhere that if you move country in the January transfer window then you’re not cup tied in the European competitions…..Pagan

5th January 2020 at 8:09 pm #57873Michy has a goal or two in him but he’s not a top 4 Club striker imo which is what Chelsea are looking to achieve on a regular basis and moving him on for a half decent fee I suspect isn’t going to be easy.
At the end of the day we have to do what’s best for the Club above everything else and that isn’t another loan move, we need to try and move Michy on for the best possible fee we can get.
I can’t see it happening in January even if we sign another striker if Giroud moves on as he might we will still need 3 strikers to cover injuries/ the number of games we have to play.
Frank on Giroud leaving “There’s no update on Oli. I have spoken with him. If the conditions are it’s something Oli really wants to do, and it works for the club, and it works for me and the squad, then it’s something that could happen, but only when all three of those bases are covered.”
That’s the right attitude sympathetic to the player but the Club’s requirements have to come first.

6th January 2020 at 1:50 pm #57909Regarding creativity, I have one great solution which comes with a hefty price tag and probably an unimaginable transfer…
This player would have Kante to do his defensive running, he has this in his national team already, he plays great through balls for strikers on the shoulder and he would be given freedom to do what he wants on the pitch…
Paul Pogba…

6th January 2020 at 1:53 pm #57910Interesting thought Amz. But apart from everything else Pogba comes with a lot of baggage.

6th January 2020 at 2:23 pm #57913Other than Messi and Ronaldo (and Hazard) the next 2 best players come with baggage – Bale and Neymar.
I reckon Frank will be tough on Pogba but Pogba wont have that many defensive duties. Frank would get the best out of Pogba and i reckon Pogba would respect what Frank achieved with us given the similar positions they play.
United want to sell him! (maybe not to a rival). We can give them Barks lol. I’d happily swap Jorg for Pog though and put Kante in a holding position

6th January 2020 at 2:55 pm #57916AnonymousPretty bored of reading Chelsea fans dismiss michy. Can any Chelsea fan find him play a run of 5 games as a starting striker for us? Good luck with that.
He’s been sent on loan and the manager Roundabout hasn’t helped him. Everywhere else he plays he scores and against most opposition. It’s a shame, a thirty million pound striker who’s been underplayed, undervalued by the fans who are quick to jump down his throat. He’s a good player off the shoulder and in and around the box.
The club need to address the real reason strikers at Chelsea struggle… quality into and around the box.
Anyhow, think we’re missing a trick not bringing Ampadu back, the Krusty kid has gone and shaved his locks off, he’s only played a few games on loan and we’re crying out for a left sided defender/ midfielder. The club want to bring ake back too… not so sure that would be a good idea.
A player who could click instantly with our youthful attack would be of course, solanke. Reckon he’d come back on loan too.
Anyhow, let’s see what direction the club go, but given the financial results, can’t say I think we’ll be spending big this month.

6th January 2020 at 3:24 pm #57917Amz, that’s true re the baggage even Barkley comes with baggage.?
I think a Barkley/Pogba swap deal might even stretch Marina’s capabilities though.?

7th January 2020 at 8:37 am #57928“Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley says he learned “a big lesson” after he was criticised by Frank Lampard for his off-field behaviour.
Lampard, the Chelsea head coach, said Barkley was “naive” after he was caught out late in Liverpool, arguing with a taxi driver over spilled chips, just days before a Champions League game against Lille in October.
Asked if the incident had taught him a lesson, Barkley said: “Yes, a big lesson. You have got to be aware of your surroundings when you let you hair down for any player out there.” SkySports.
Coincidentally Amz this message has come out from Barkley in the last couple of days.
I don’t think Frank will give him another chance if he gets in any more scrapes and that aside I think he has a fight on his hands to stay in the reckoning at Chelsea beyond the Summer given the returning players and Frank’s desire to strengthen the squad.
Still a good signing at £15m though and we will probably more than double our money if we ultimately decide to sell him.
