Moos, agree with all of that mate my post should have said it was Tammy’s first season of playing regularly in the PL for Chelsea which is a massive step up for the lad imo from where he has been previously.
I do think we need to bring in another striker to compete/play with Tammy, Giroud will almost certainly and understandably move on,Michy is a trier and gives his all but not a top 4 player imo. But we’ll see it’s all in Frank’s hands. Cheers 9’s

23rd December 2019 at 1:52 pm #57334Ahead of yesterday’s superb win over Tottenham Hostpur, we wrote about Tammy Abraham’s season so far, and how it stacked up against that of Harry Kane, his opposite number.
Our number 9 has scored more goals, and has stats comparable with the league’s most coveted striker in every department. Watching the two of them yesterday, you could see why.
Abraham didn’t score, but he did everything else to perfection. While Kane toiled alone up front for his side, struggling for a touch of the ball let alone a dangerous action in our box, Tammy was everywhere.
Running, chasing and tackling from the front, he lead our press with his endless energy and desire to win the ball. When his team had it, his movement was superb, finding gaps in the opposition defence to stretch them and make space for others.
When the ball game to him, he made it stick, fighting off defenders and playing in his teammates with calm and clever passes.
It was a complete performance from a striker who looks better every week.
Maybe we had it the wrong way round before – maybe it’s Kane who can learn some things from Abraham?” Chelsea News.

23rd December 2019 at 2:26 pm #57337No, it didn’t factor in at all,’ Lampard said in response to Mourinho’s accusation he copied Conte’s tactics.
‘I don’t know if I want to go through all the players, but I’m sure half of them weren’t here [in Conte’s time]. ‘I know [Fikayo] Tomori wasn’t, [Mason] Mount wasn’t, [Tammy] Abraham wasn’t, and I’m not trying to clone anyone’s system. ‘I think Conte’s system was an incredible one that won the league at Chelsea, but the way I play it and the message I give is different.”
Doesn’t really matter either way but the reality was that Frank outwitted Jose tactically yesterday and Jose took to long to try and react to that.
Chelsea also targeted Aurier which wasn’t rocket science because Aurier is an accident waiting to happen even without Chelsea targeting him as they did yesterday.

23rd December 2019 at 2:26 pm #57339AnonymousI’d say Tommy’s natural game is actually a fox in the box type finisher. Certainly lower down the leagues most goals came inside the box – if he’s adding strength and guile to his all round play, great news for us. He’s bound to have dips in form and it’ll be how he gets through those that’ll be the making of him.
Certainly did the right thing unlike his mate solanke struggling on the south coast. I wonder if the club might consider loaning him back from bournmouth. Lost his way and could he find it back at his old club? Would cfc be willing to take the risk? Think moussett is worth looking at…

23rd December 2019 at 5:04 pm #57347How good was Mason Mount yesterday? i saw one pundit suggest he has outshined Delle Alli. his pressing and his energy was first class yesterday. i think he has a big future in front of him if he stays injury free and is not distracted by the media hype like it did with several young English players.

23rd December 2019 at 8:37 pm #57360“Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho confirmed on Monday that Spurs will appeal the red card shown to Heung-Min Son during Sunday’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea.”
Be amazed if that one gets overturned.
I thought Gazzaniga was lucky to get away with a yellow card for his WWE tackle on Alonso.

24th December 2019 at 1:23 pm #57384“If we’re not patient and if we don’t stick with the players, we might end up in a situation like we were before where absolute top, world-class players in this moment were at Chelsea when they were 20, 21 and managers didn’t stick with them so much then,” Frank Lampard
Wise words from Frank and he’s right we shouldn’t throw the babies out with the bath water again and I don’t think we will.

24th December 2019 at 4:25 pm #57386I was pleased to hear that from Lampard. i was worried that this transfer window would overturn the hard-work with the youth. and as you can see Abraham, Mount and Tomori are miles ahead of their fellow youngsters. but some players have to on loan to get game time and develop. i was also reading from somewhere today that Isco has been offered to Chelsea for similar fee as that of Kovacic. if true i would jump the opportunity to take him away from Real Madrid. he is a tricky creative number 10 in the mould of David Silva if handled properly. and i had been a fan of him for a very long time. and then i would sell Barkley if possible.

26th December 2019 at 5:36 pm #57414Amz, for me we need a player that is more creative and can do something unexpected, defence is all about positioning and discipline and as such is relatively easy to coach, creativity on the other hand is a totally different kettle of fish….Pagan

26th December 2019 at 7:18 pm #57417Pagan yes I agree but we still concede too many for my liking. Draw 0-0 v West ham, Bmouth and Soton I can deal with but we lost them all and we conceded 2 today. Let’s get out defence sorted. Then get Sancho in summer.

26th December 2019 at 7:30 pm #57420Re Mount he’s been ill and wasn’t considered fit enough to start today.
Unfortunately after the very good performance v Spurs the two faces of Chelsea returned.
Agree with Amz and Pagan above like them think we need a striker, cb, lb and someone with a bit of creativity to open up defences.
I thought we missed Kovacic today and we looked a much better team when Mount came on even though he wasn’t really 100% fit having been ill since the Spurs game..
I suspect any chance of finishing in the top 4 is dependent on how we do in the transfer market in January.

26th December 2019 at 8:32 pm #57422I’ve not seen the game today but I presume we had loads of possession, pushed forward and although had the ball in their half fail to really create much, and then got hit on the break. This seems to be a pattern of the season, we can’t break down organised deep seated teams, hence we need a very creative player to do something a bit different and special….Pagan

27th December 2019 at 8:32 am #57436The big miss yesterday was Kovacic through suspension and Mount in the first half through illness and if we’re going to play 3/4/3 we need wing backs who can cross effectively.
Zouma is all heart but unfortunately he’s got a mistake in him which he can’t seem to eradicate.
Barkley as a sub yesterday might have been a good call but medium to long term I’m not sure he’s the answer RLC back fit and playing to the level of last season would be a major plus.
I anticipate a real sorting out of the squad over the next two transfer windows.
CHO probably needs to go out on loan to find himself again he’s a shadow of the player he was last season when he was breaking into the team it’s not easy to come back from the injury he’s had and be all guns blazing and he needs game time which on current form Frank can’t give him.

27th December 2019 at 12:17 pm #57445AnonymousNot playing to the teams strength – tammy Abraham’s is a poacher, stick two up top him and batshuyai.
I’m struggling to see what with Kovacic or Jorginho bring to the side and as a result, kante looks lost. Zouma isn’t a top 4 defender and we need a leader to Marshall at the back, we need a quality left back who can play wing back or full back…
I find it really strange that there are now calls for cho to be loaned out. He needs minutes, played back into form.
Can’t wait to see rlc back and driving things alo my side kante in midfield. That is if he can recapture his form.
Anyhow, Lampard has many many positives to take from the first half of the season. It’s work in progress but I would like to see us turn our home form around. The ground sounded like a graveyard yesterday. Do us fans only sing when we’re winning? Sounds that way.
The young players need encouragement, a viciforus atmospher. It was pants at villa and West Ham home. Playing better away from home suggests the players are bottling it at the bridge. Character is needed

27th December 2019 at 12:43 pm #5744627, The January transfer window is always a tough one with clubs reluctant to sell their best players, in view of that who do you think Frank will go for ??

27th December 2019 at 2:06 pm #57450Shiney, great question mate and I agree it’s going to be tough to sign the players Chelsea really want in January.
I’ve always been of the opinion if you can’t get who you would buy in the Summer in the January window then it’s best to keep your powder dry.
We’ve been linked with so many players since the ban had been lifted it’s difficult to know which links have got any credibility and which haven’t.
If Chelsea can’t make some key signings in January though I think we will probably fall short of the top 4 but the other side of the coin is being careful not to throw the babies out with the bath water.
My personal view is whether in January or the Summer we need strengthening in the following areas left back, centre back, a creative midfield player/creative wide player and a striker and tbh I think the juries out on Kepa too.
The above is clearly not all possible to do in January and would cost at least £250m which is probably doable given the transfer fund the Club’s currently sitting on and the near £60m still to come in from Atletico for Morata and the monies we would get from those we might move on to make way for those we might buy.
I think there has to be a dual strategy of buying to get Chelsea into the the CL as a regular participant and then buying to compete for the title again with Liverpool and City and it has to be done in a balanced way that still allows the Mounts of this world to come through.
It’s an exciting period for the Club imo the foundations are there Frank will become a better Manager with experience and the trick will be spending the money wisely and balancing the signings alongside the great young players we already have and the really bright prospects we still have coming through. Cheers 9’s
