Awful result 3 losses in the last 4 PL games this one v a team that hasn’t won since Nov 2nd is ruining any chance Chelsea have of retaining CL football. This has to be arrested quickly.
We have to hope now that we might be able to do some transfer business in January that might strengthen us in the right areas and rejuvenate our CL challenge.

14th December 2019 at 6:48 pm #56676Frank’s Press Conference.
“I’m disappointed,’ said the boss. ‘I did feel guarded against this when everyone on the outside was getting excited with seven wins on the trot. I was more level-headed because I felt there was more work to do and now we see there is definitely more work to do.
‘When we play against teams who are organised and want to stop us playing – West Ham, Everton, Bournemouth today – we have to find another way and we haven’t managed to do that. That then brings nerves and stress in the stadium and within the team, which we haven’t deal with well enough.
‘This is the reality – if we’re not at our best, if we haven’t got enough to break teams down that are organised, if players with their individual qualities and personality can’t do something to beat teams that are organised, then we need to find another way.’
Expanding on that point, Lampard explained what more he wanted from his players.
‘Urgency in our play. If you’re transferring the ball then transfer it quickly from side to side. If you’re playing through the lines because that’s the kind of player you are then get it through the lines.‘If you’re an attacking player, get at people, do things that are positive and don’t play safe. We played generally too safe throughout the game.’
Playing too safe contributed to a generally flat atmosphere at the Bridge but the boss refused to blame the supporters.
‘In front of our home fans, it’s clear now that we’re not playing well enough and not getting enough results. Up until now, a lot of it was not taking enough chances because we’d been creating a lot and giving away some silly goals.‘Today wasn’t a day where we created loads of chances. We created two or three great chances and we need to take them if we want to improve but we didn’t get the fans excited enough. The fans shouldn’t be excited if we’re going to play 10 balls across our back four and that’s not the team I want to manage.
‘I’m a Chelsea man, everyone knows that so I’ll be the first one to say if the fans are flat and we needed them but today I’m not going to say that because it was too slow. I won’t blame the fans at all – they come here to support the team, they’ll come to Tottenham next week, they’ll come for the Southampton game on Boxing Day and some responsibility is on the players. They have to excite them and have the personality to take the ball in an area to beat someone or play forward.’
Frank was asked about the options in his squad ahead of a busy upcoming fixture schedule.
‘There are options to rotate and it’s something I look at every week – sometimes it’s worked more and sometimes it’s worked less but I think you have to. Players have to show that they deserve to come in and make a difference, particularly in a moment like now.’Finally, Lampard stressed that these setbacks would be tackled with the same togetherness and hard work that has typified our season to date.
‘I’ve been in the dressing room as a player after those games so we’re not going to start drawing lines between me, the staff and the players. I understand how they feel so it won’t be a hard week where I get them in for training tomorrow morning and we watch the video for two hours.‘We have a long week where they can go away and have time with their families, then when we’re in we’ll work properly and focus on the Tottenham game. That’s what they do to be fair. I can’t find anyone wanting in how they apply themselves but what we do on the pitch is the main thing and we have to understand that at the moment it’s not good enough.’

15th December 2019 at 5:49 am #56685AnonymousNow Lampard has no choice but to dip.into the coming window, first get rid of all the deadwood, no point in keeping the likes of Pedro, Giroud, Bat’s, Alonso, etc. Guess we all fooled ourselves into believing we had enough experienceed players to back up the youth, well think k again just cause the likes of Jorginho , Willian, Azipliqueta, Kovacic, Emerson have a couple of decent games they good enough well if u lose to teams like West ham, Bourne mouth, Everton its a fools paradise we living in, the younger players like Kepa, Mount, Zouma, Hudson, Abraham should be doing much better too. They losing the ball to much and should be converting some of the easier chances they have esp Abraham how can a tall guy like that miss direct so many headers. Lampard is too rigid with his team selections and needs to up his game as well. Think I will give it a rest for now.

15th December 2019 at 11:52 am #56699Chelsea do have an advantage in having some talented youngsters, but that is what they are talented but inexperienced and just maybe thrust a little to forward too soon. Frank Lampard should be given time to settle, more defeats will follow but as long as you learn from the defeats that helps in the future. There is no instant success in football, all has to be worked for and I think Chelsea will be the team to do well next season, you need the building blocks. It happens to all teams it is only a case of how you go about it then

15th December 2019 at 12:38 pm #56703AnonymousBrian, probably very accurate, it’s not like none of this wasn’t known going into the season.
I pointed it out and was called a doomsayer and essentially anti Chelsea. The club made a decision to go with frank and fans overlooked the extent of what needed to happen and the extent of change that would take place. Sure, we got on a very good run early on and players ran their socks off for the new management team.
There are disgruntled more senior players in the squad too, we’ve been here before under older management teams too… Lampard is inexperienced but refreshingly honest imo. It’s truly lovely to have him around, he will become more ruthless and the youngsters, as you say, need to up their game too. Prem teams get wise to players and systems very quickly so we can say that is happening to the likes of mount Abraham temori etc.
We’ve exceeded most expectations so far with the current squad, we’ve only just had Callum Hudson Odoi back and urban Loftus Cheek will be back, rudiger played his first game yesterday and added composure. Still think our best combination at the back will be timori and rudiger or christiensen and rudiger. Sadly, zouma appears to get caught out a little too often.
I’d also say mount doesn’t offer as much protection to Kovacic and Kante and I do think Kante May be running out of steam a little. He’s not the player he has been the last two seasons. Interesting to see the rumours appear today he might fancy another opportunity elsewhere. True or just media hocus pocus they are appearing more frequently.
Approaching half way point in the season, were above where we thought we’d be in a hugely competitive league. I hope fans don’t start getting on the players backs or questioning Lampard as we’re all on a different type of journey with the club changing its structure to accommodate a batch of very, very good players who’ve won it all at youth level. Patience is needed and we may not qualify for next seasons champions league. But then we could do a conte in his first season

15th December 2019 at 7:09 pm #56747442…that is the word…patience. Like with City at the moment, we have had a very good run of success, time has arrived for a fresh injection into the squad but this could be youngsters but they have to be brought in carefully. I have seen too many promising youngster ruined by expectations being too high. I know Chelsea have had a problem with the transfer embargo but there talented youngsters are being overplayed at the moment. The EPL is not possible for you this season so I would develop a style that they are comfortable with to give them confidence, win or loose..they have to give there best shot and the players understand what there responsibilities are, young or old. That being so, I believe Chelsea will be serious contenders next season with Frank Lampard in charge as well This season, they have to work out what is best for them

16th December 2019 at 12:39 pm #56795We need a creative midfielder desperately. Whether that’s in the form of another winger or a central midfielder, i’m not sure. Maybe both?
Jorginho is redundant v teams that sit back when we are at home. We really do miss a third man run from one of our midfielders. We did that so well at the start of the season, Mount needs a break.
Realistically this transfer window won’t see us get a player we desperately need, maybe the only one would be Ake.
Ziyech from Ajax would be good but would rather wait for Sancho…

I don’t know what’s behind but you seem to rate Sancho highly. all i see in Sancho is a good player who can score a few goals but not the world class bracket you are putting him.
But you mentioned an interesting player in Ziyech. he was the player that hurted us the most in the 4-4 draw with inch perfect crosses. i would love if we can get him.

17th December 2019 at 5:24 pm #56903I always think that whoever you go for in the January window should be governed by would you sign them the following Summer.
Lots of speculation and numerous discussions to come over the next 6 weeks or so.?

17th December 2019 at 9:28 pm #56919I was just reading today that Loftus Cheek has returned to the training. i don’t know how long until he will be available, but that will be a massive shot in the arm for the team. several of our players are lacking competition. for example Mount has no competition as Barkley has been injured in the last two months or misbehaved. Willian has no competition also, both Pedro and CHO are struggling to dislodge him. Pulisic has been good when he had CHO breathing his neck. now he seems to be relaxing because CHO had injury problem and loss of form. Abraham also has no proper competition. likewise Kepa has no competition. these players need a proper competition, because the will give us the best out of them.

18th December 2019 at 12:09 am #56927I think it will be a while yet Chelseaman RLC is still training on his own but it’s definitely a step in the right direction for him.
Be great to have him back though but it was a very bad injury and he’s had other set backs so it’s important not to rush him.

18th December 2019 at 4:31 am #56928Sancho looked pretty handy overnight against Leipzig. A welcome addition at Chelsea for mine.

18th December 2019 at 8:11 am #56933Can’t see that one happening in January 67 and ultimately it may depend on who we buy in January as much as anything else but great to be speculating again.?

18th December 2019 at 9:39 am #56938Hey CM, just have a look at Sancho’s stats this season.
He is not world class, but he is on the road to it. He has tricks in 1v1 situations and gets in to dangerous positions. You should watch a few highlights of him just to get a better understanding of what he will give us.
He was instrumental for Dortmund last night v Leipzig.

18th December 2019 at 10:21 am #56943AnonymousI’d be playing CHO into form and that requires pairing him with Willian. Think CHO has more talent than Sancho. CHO and Willian have a great understanding. I think Pulisic needs to strengthen a little as do a number of the youngsters. Jury is out for me on Sancho. Another great talent but would he cope with the rigours of the premiership? I would argue, Martial would be a more obtainable target at a lesser price. Richarlison also still looks like a player in the making, the manager situation at Everton might make him more obtainable? I was impressed with Grealish in the flesh when he turned up and tortured us at the bridge. Anderson/ Antonio at West Ham are good options. Both would have their heads turned by a club like Chelsea.
Ultimately, I think Lamps needs to get more consistent performances out of Pedro. On his day he is class but he is too inconsistent. It will probably take some left field signings in January as non club wants to lose their better assets mid way through a season and that might mean signing and loaning the player back until the summer. Willian and Pedro out of contract?

18th December 2019 at 10:37 am #56944442 Pedro is similar to Pulisic, clever runs off the ball. We need someone who is great on the ball and can either use a bit of skill to beat a man or 2 with a decent cross, pass or shot at the end of it.
The jury is out on CHO. He has had 1 good game away against Southampton and has been very poor since. He doesn’t seem to be doing what Lampard wants him to do as a winger.

18th December 2019 at 11:00 am #56946“Free to sign players in the January transfer window, Chelsea could make a big-money move for Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze to ease their attacking shortage. (El Desmarque)”
Samuel is a Chelsea fan and has a buyout clause so it’s a doable one the rrumour seems to be growing in momentum if true it would put a question mark against any move for Sanchez?
All speculation though just nice for us to be involved in the transfer speculation again.

There is a high chance that we may lose both Willian and Pedro. so we may need another 2 wingers
