You dominate a game in possession, you’re playing a team that have got a lot of fighting spirit where they’re trying to fight for their interim manager and for themselves, and we’ve got to do more than we did,” Lampard said.
“Work rate is one thing, I’d expect us to match everyone in the league on that, but sometimes physical contact is another.
“If you’re not going to win headers or balls are going to bounce down and you’re not going to go through the ball and the man a little bit, then at places like Goodison especially it’s going to be really tough to go and win like that.
On Everton’s third goal, Lampard added: “It’s a really poor mistake from us.
“Kepa passes it straight to Theo (Walcott), after that there are two more mistakes. We can’t defend like that.
“If ever there’s been a game that shows in one little package how far we still need to go, then I think it was today.
“We get into their box so many times and score one goal in the game, and they get in our box a few times but with our own sloppiness they score.”
The perfect summary from Frank imo.

7th December 2019 at 8:42 pm #55969Powder puff up front and the second two goals were a comedy of errors. Schoolboy stuff!
Frank is a bit wiser tonight as to where he might need to strengthen Rudiger back at the centre of the defence would be a step in the right direction.

7th December 2019 at 8:43 pm #55970What’s the Chelsea guys view on the transfer ban being lifted? Lampard has done well so far, and he has used a lot of young players who really have been performing.
Do you want Lampard to spend? Could spending on established players get in the way of a young team developing?

7th December 2019 at 8:56 pm #55973srd, Frank is sitting on a very significant war chest but the money has to be invested wisely we saw today where we might be short in certain areas however whether that can be fixed in January is open to conjecture.
Liverpool demonstrated what signing 4 key players can achieve when added to a promising team.
If Chelsea can get anywhere near what Liverpool did in the transfer market in signing those 4 players being now free to operate in the transfer market with the quality that Chelsea already have plus further youngsters coming through and things could be very promising going forwards.

8th December 2019 at 8:08 am #55983Very poor all round performance by everyone especially defence and keeper, Lampard needs to drop or give players that are not performing a break. I always supported youth first policy but it appears now we will have to dip in the market for 1 or 2 upgrades if it is possible in January. Not only Pedro and Giroud that should be going, a couple of players especially in our defence are simply not good enough for a top 4 club. In fact yesterday better players were on the bench. Mount needs to be subbed as well Frank’s over playing him and its not helping him.

8th December 2019 at 9:12 am #55986yes, with December and the sudden heavy run of games upon us we are hitting the expected brick wall. These lads have overachieved and still hang on to 4th but the signs are there that we are now getting found out. For me it was expected. The most concerning thing for me is the quality of opposition we are now losing to and the inability to break them down. Again we had our chances but keep trying to walk the ball into the net instead of getting shots in. Defensively, Zouma and Christensen are not working well together and Dave is again struggling. There is no natural on field leader out there either.

8th December 2019 at 10:14 am #56003Just go out this January and get Nick Pope at all costs. Kepa needs competition and he is costing us points at this rate. Nick Pope will jump to the opportunity to play for Chelsea as he is competing a place in England squad for Euro 2020.

8th December 2019 at 12:19 pm #56014AnonymousWhen in doubt blame the KEPA…. Its foolish to blame him when the defensive problems go much wider than a keeper making mistakes. Just look at how things are being defended. That starts in midfield, Kante is not fully fit… There is something not right about his movement. Im sorry, but he was turned inside out by Grealish for 90 minutes and he’s not a quick player, was done for pace by Walcott yesterday, that didnt happen 12 months ago. We’re not stopping balls into the box and Christiennsen isnt as good as he thinks. We do have to stop being overly complicated at the back. Yes play out from the back but not all the time, it cost us under Sarri and its the same this year with Lampard. It didn’t work last season and it isnt working this season. Sure Kepa has cost us probably two to four points this season but he’s also kept us in games we’ve won.
Why would Nick pope leave Burnnley to play second fiddle at Chelsea Chelseaman? Id be looking at Butland for that sort of role. Even Burnley number 2 and former England stopper Harte.
Kovacic for me just offers nothing other than bringing the ball out from deep. No goal threat, no creativity, not that great at defending. he is great at retaining possession but when chasing a game there is very little attacking intelligence. Fingers crossed RLC is back and fully fit in the new year to replace him, a genuine box to box midfielder with vision.
Im not sure why CHO isnt a starter… im concerned that we’re being linked with Jason Sancho because CHO might still be off. Either he or Willian is off come end of the season.
Work in progress, still think it’ll be a massive achievement to Finnish top four. There are some fundamental issues that need to be addressed – Im sure we’ll get there. But lets not start pointing fingers at players.

8th December 2019 at 2:44 pm #56032All Keepers make mistakes and when they do it’s usually costly. Kepa doesn’t have the physical presence of someone like Courtois but he’s a fine shot stopper. The pass out to Zouma was sloppy though and cost us a goal and it’s something Kepa needs to sort out in his game.
Frank has analysed our current problems very well imo and I’m sure he’ll sort them out. Getting Rudiger back could be a step in the right direction though.

8th December 2019 at 8:13 pm #56058“Chelsea have kept just four clean sheets from their 24 matches across all competitions this season, with a particularly poor showing at the back costing them dearly on Saturday versus Everton.
Now, a report from online publication SportsMole (via the Daily Telegraph) states that Chelsea will go in for ex-centre-back Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.
The article states: ‘their former academy graduate Ake has emerged as a potential addition, with the west Londoners said to be prepared to spend £40m on the Netherlands international.”

8th December 2019 at 9:51 pm #56062Sensible decision Nine, because we cannot afford to concede the goals at the rate we are conceding. Ake has the potential to become a top Centre back. and he is a left footed CB a position that both Zouma and Christensen has a problem in playing whenever they are asked to play. JT was the last centre back we had who was capable in playing on the left of our centre halves. and Ake will fit in well, i would also like to see Nick Pope at Chelsea also to offer a competition for Kepa to raise his game.

9th December 2019 at 10:27 am #56076I think it was a mistake to have let Ake go CM tbh but I wonder currently whether a Lewis Dunk type player isn’t more the profile of the player we need fearless, commited and a leader?
Whoever we may or may not try to sign getting any of the players we want in January won’t be easy.

9th December 2019 at 10:52 am #56077Koulibaly £80m. He’s 28 and Napoli are struggling. He would surely relish a move to a club challenging for trophies!

9th December 2019 at 2:16 pm #56184No no! no way we should be paying that huge amount for a player who will have no resale value. £80m is a huge sum. i agree with Nine, Lewis Dunk will be an ideal signing very big, and has physical presence. and he will be more cheaper option.Koulibaly will struggle to adapt with the premier league.

9th December 2019 at 2:44 pm #56189I think the reality is that Frank and the Club will draw up a wish list for January with a number of names for each position they wish to strengthen on it whether that includes the likes of Koulibaly, Ake or even Dunk who knows.
I would be surprised though if defenders aren’t high on Frank’s wish list and that a Centre Back isn’t one of the positions Frank would like to strengthen although we shouldn’t forget that a fully match fit Antonio Rudiger will significantly strengthen us.
Whatever the names and positions are it’s going to be difficult to get them in January and dealing with Napoli and De Laurentiis would be a potential nightmare imo.?

9th December 2019 at 2:51 pm #56190Chelseaman – who care’s about re-sale value if he helps us win the league or champions league?
The fact you say Koulibaly will struggle in the premier league means you’ve never seen him play?
You don’t buy world class players with a re-sale value mate. You buy them to help you win trophies.

9th December 2019 at 2:53 pm #56191We are a big club with ambitions. Lewis Dunk is a good defender, but we need a world class player. If we want to compete with City and Liverpool we need 2 or 3 world class ready made players. That’s a fact!

9th December 2019 at 3:00 pm #56194Alisson, Van Dijk,Keita and Fabinho tells you that Amz those 4 signings propelled Liverpool from top 4 contenders to CL winners and likely PL title winners.
That’s probably the level of players we have to aim for in whatever positions Frank decides need strengthening.
