As soon as I looked at that line up v Villa I was thinking how odd it looked, especially around the central defence and the obvious waste of Reece James’s talents. After that performance which is flash but ends up with no end product (ie goals) and the standard goal or two conceded through poor structure and over commitment then a cracker which McGinn is well capable of we are back to where we were before that much needed Leeds struggling victory. It appears Potter may be creatively manipulating his own downfall. I didn’t want to consider that before but , well let’s put it this way, he isn’t doing himself any favours if he wanted to grow in the job and be successful with his strange selections..

2nd April 2023 at 7:27 am #205771I was in support of Potter being an English coach and all that but after the continual way he selects his team and the poor results thereof I changed my mind, who knows whose the right fit, guess you never know for sure till you try them but the problem is then that it costs a fortune to replace them. A proper pickle we in not to mention the ffp rules that’s now going to increase with his dismissal, it’s not only him it’s his whole coaching staff probably. On the positive side there’s a lot of rated players that need to be sold due to a very bloated squad.

2nd April 2023 at 8:47 am #205772Rover, Potter is far from the only problem, we were destined for a bad season and I called that in the summer before we kicked a ball and tuchel was still in charge.
That being said I also expected some progress and we are even worse than I expected.
I think we will change before next season but will make 2 predictions,
1) our next manager will also fail in the majority of fans eyes
2) Potter will be doing well elsewhere when that happens._____________________________

2nd April 2023 at 8:54 am #20577367, we have no confidence in back 4 and our results improved going to a 3. We only had 2 centre backs yesterday and tuchel deployed James at CB too when needed.
I can understand that but we were nowhere near good enough on the ball to threaten.
City showed us how to play with 3 at back yesterday. It was back 4 out of possession with stones at right back but when they had the ball it was 343 like us except they had actually wingers in the wide positions. We had Ruben who us a little way off mahrez ๐ and chilwell who was very good but again no grealish.
On TT I made a thread before start of season saying that while it’s best for us to have 3 at back when we on the ball we won’t challenge city or pool until we can defend with 4 at back off the ball.

2nd April 2023 at 9:21 am #205775Lads but with a striker yday Chelsea score about 4/5 goals no? Chances are being created. They are just not clinical enough. Defensive mistakes but Chelsea rarely concede two goals or more. You compare this to Liverpool who have conceded over 3 goals 8 times this season and we canโt string two passes together

2nd April 2023 at 9:27 am #205777If it was that simple lukaku would have scored 20 plus goals and auba would have done OK too Sean.
Sure we need a striker though and as I said in my post above, Potter is far from the only problem.

2nd April 2023 at 9:39 am #205780If you concede as poor as defensive goal as the first goal yday and then fail to take you chances against bar Arsenal and City the best form team in the PL yday will be the outcome.

2nd April 2023 at 11:52 am #205788It is probably easier to take and accept this punishment at 3, 4 or 5pm than it is at 1, 2 or 3am. Maybe I should watch replays at 7am but it’s not the same as LIVE football I really do punish myself and keep coming back for more, At least Liverpool during the week starts at a more manageable 5am ๐

2nd April 2023 at 5:49 pm #205800its wishful thinking on my behalf that we have reduced compensation termination clauses, if we donโt then sacking him will be very expensive. I do think however for accounting purposes it could be spread and paid over original term of contract.
https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/news/how-much-cost-chelsea-sack-26293835#amp-readmore-target
Look at it this way, if we appoint a new manager on same salary on 4 Yr contract, we will in effect be paying over 24m a year on managers (Potter plus replacement) this is not even considering what we still owe tuchel.
That is unsustainable and at some point we will not have the ability to change either managers or players with any considerable degree of freedom.
I have to say the priority for me is trimming the squad, filling the gaps with 2 or 3 additions, and most importantly, complying with FFP.
If we can sack Potter and achieve the above then fine, but if not the above is my priority in keeping with the other thread I started earlier today

10th April 2023 at 9:53 am #206072Why should Azpi be included back in the starting line up? What is the latest with Thiago Silva re fitness right now? Both these players instil into the side something that appears to be sadly lacking right now. Guess what that is!!

14th May 2023 at 12:38 am #206847Agh man this page is being neglected and should be saved from page two of the threads as it is our home page.
Diabolical first half vs Forest and as for Mendy…. well awful and worse than Kepa overall. Better second half and Sterling actually put in some sort of effort today and this after having apparently spoken about wanting to commit to the future Chelsea. Second goal made staying up all hours of the night worthwhile but still only a draw at home against fellow strugglers. What is Frank up to again? Surely Mudryk was worthy of some game time at 2-2 with us looking like the only team out there chasing the win and Forest hanging on for their precious point. He gets a lot of criticism and we see something game after game where we, the ordinary football supporter say to ourselves why oh why (or why not) Frank!!

19th September 2023 at 7:01 am #209576If the rumours are true and its Reece James to City, well that would do it for me. It happens Iโm on my way. 56 years on and Iโd dump this club whilst these owners remain in place. At my age that would be the end.

20th September 2023 at 4:59 am #209588Joao Felix 2 goals and an assist in the Champions League for Barcelona. Another cock up by the owners not retaining that guy. He at least showed something for us in those dire last months of last season. They just didn’t want to know about him at the end of the season for whatever reason. He’d be handy to have around now.

20th September 2023 at 7:18 am #2095891967, hope all is well mate. Do you think itโs absolutely crazy whatโs going on at Chelsea now? You look at the injured players and you think who could come in there and change things? Caciedo, James and nkunku would help but near a billion spent and the squad doesnโt look really great?
Itโs just absolutely bizarre the amount of money spent and they still really lack quality going forward. Itโs just hard to fathom whatโs going on there. Whose picking all these players to sign?
