17th February 2023 at 2:46 am #204406I can’t put my finger on it as to why so many chances get spurned by so many different players notwithstanding we don’t have a proper centre forward. Felix missed two gifts in the 30th and then the 38th minutes of the Dortmund match. Chances I would imagine a player of his quality would score 9 times out of 10.

17th February 2023 at 5:24 am #20440767 it could be lack of finishing training, I remember the team I played for was going through similar issues, getting many clear chances but unable to find the net, we then focused nearly all our training exercises on shooting at goal and close up finishing and it actually subsequently did the job. The more you train on certain parts of the game the more focused and confident you become in those specific spheres. Just my take not sure why else such highly talented players would spurn so many chances.

17th February 2023 at 7:48 am #204408Cheers Rover and it all makes sense and it would be logical that part of their day(s) during the training sessions they would do just that. Trouble is, with a committed defence in front of them on match day they always seem to be rushed. Simply very good defending with a packed defence. Replicate that at training and they likely have the same problem. It’s about getting the shot away under pressure and we struggle big time. Very frustrating but still, Felix surely had to finish on at least one of the two guilt edged chances he had.

17th February 2023 at 8:55 am #204414I’m pretty sure the players practice shooting everyday in training our problem is we don’t have a recognised goalscorer neither Felix or Havertz are goalscorers.
I watched United last night and accepting that Rashford is in a rich vein of form if we had him in our team on Wednesday night there’s every chance we would have probably won that game.
Things won’t improve massively imo until we have a recognised goalscorer in the team.

17th February 2023 at 9:15 am #204417I agree Nine we won’t be the force we want to be without a top goal scorer.
I hope that as performances are improving results will follow, even if by small margins, and that will in turn lead to a boost in confidence. A lot of our chances are missed due to the pressure and lack of confidence, both of which are natural consequences of the results.

17th February 2023 at 10:12 am #204421Sean, I think with the money we spent if a viable solution was available in January we would have sorted it.
Can imagine that the clubs main striker targets won’t be possible until the summer.
We would need to offload aubameyang and find a solution for lukaku to be able to go all out for the level of striker we need, we won’t get a top striker for 100k per week like the other young players we bought are on.

18th February 2023 at 5:36 pm #204497I said start of Jan when top 4 was almost certainly out of reach that all that matters to me for rest of season is our performances rather than results.
Against dortmund I was happy with the performance despite the result.
There is nothing positive about todayβs display, absolutely dreadful.
I wonβt get involved in any debate regards our manager because I still think itβs pointless until summer, it would be even more embarrassing to spend over 50m on manager compensation in one season and finishing mid table. I am sure there are clauses based on league finish and I still maintain strongly that the summer is when the managers position should be assessed.
But I will say I expect a lot better from the players and coaching staff. Not demanding top 4, far from it, but there is no excuse for this level of performance at home to this level of opposition.

18th February 2023 at 9:57 pm #204559Not much to say really. Considering we have no mid week game coming up I am confused with team selection, especially omitting Reece James. Today they looked like a bunch of players that had never trained or played together. Thoughts go out to Dave. That really looks serious and hoping for him a full recovery. That was a savage kick to the head. One of the worst I have seen.

21st February 2023 at 11:49 am #204629Wow, big news if true
Mauricio Pochettino turns down Chelsea approach to replace Graham Potter.
Chelsea showed interest late last week, and the former Spurs man was targeted but he was not keen.
Chelsea won't remove Potter without a plan.
