Must say was disappointed in the performance but it’s a big win anyway, we were overrun in midfield where we obviously missed Kante, at the same time can’t always rely on him we should be developing a young player for that big hole when his time is up, Gilmour I don’t think is that kind of player. So who it can be I don’t know right now.

12th September 2021 at 9:24 am #184848Saul has played one game. New country and new to the pl. much different league to Spain. Heโs a class player and just needs time to get up to speed

12th September 2021 at 10:04 am #184853Sean, saul is a good addition to our squad but the levels we have seen from jorginho, kante and kovacic mean that saul will have to be better than he has ever been to play regularly for us.
I said before the game I expected jorginho and kovacic to start with saul on bench. I understand why tuchel wanted to try to rest jorginho but it was a risk starting saul and Tuchel had to correct it half time.
No doubt of his ability when fully match sharp and in form and we will need to see him reach those levels for us to challenge on all fronts.

12th September 2021 at 2:20 pm #184866No Azpi, Christensen, James, Kante, Jorginho, and Mount take 6 usual starters out of any team especially after an international break and they will struggle especially against a team like Villa to come out of it with 3 points and a 3 nil win was a real bonus.
I’m wont be writing Saul off on his first 45 minutes in which he admittedly struggled I don’t think all the changes helped and Villa tactically sat on and got after both pivots and Saul will have to get used to that.
Having watched Saul at Atletico in both La Liga and the CL everything I’ve seen of him suggests he’s a lot lot better than yesterday’s performance and he’ll have to be to force himself ahead of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic.
I do worry that Saul is living in London without his family and how that might impact on him though.

12th September 2021 at 3:06 pm #184868I think playing Saul and Kovacic doesn’t work in any way. Saul has to play with eitherJorginho or Kante. Because Jorginho would have given him advice and direction, while Kante would have offered help and protection. Kovacic didn’t offer him that. They are two similar players.

12th September 2021 at 3:27 pm #184870Agree Nine, playing centre midfieldin premier league is probably as tough as it gets and just like kovacic and jorginho will take a while for saul to adjust. If he adjusts well we have a bargain, if not no worries it was well worth the punt.
YB, I think you are right re kovacic saul although I think it might have helped saul to be playing left side of the 2 instead of right, tuchel would have had his reasons though and plenty of time for saul to adapt.

13th September 2021 at 5:30 pm #185003I hope Christensen is fit and ready to play tonight as we may need him against Spurs. He has been our best CB this season. I suspect Tuchel will give Chilwell a start tomorrow and would see how he reacts. But anyway, i would go with Alonso as he likes to face against Spurs. Tuchel said Kante would be ready against Spurs. So him and Jorginho will start with Kovacic coming on. I also expect Mount and Werner to be back. Resting Rudiger is very important also.

15th September 2021 at 1:53 am #185063Mostly a controlled performance against Zenit without being inspirational, desired result and three points. Not much else to say really other than RL doing what he does best.Good to see RLC get 2 minutes and thirty seconds. Maybe the FA Cup and Carabao Cup could be when he earns a pay cheque on a match day. Chilly finally got a token run. His time will come in a starting eleven. Alonso canโt play every match of the season.

15th September 2021 at 6:49 am #18507267, to be fair, no team has really had any time to prepare for the games this week, international matches followed by a league game then a CL game, doesnโt give much time for the clubs and hence some strange results/performancesโฆโฆโฆโฆPagan

15th September 2021 at 7:15 am #185074Agree Pagan 100% however of the opinion that they didn’t need to go through too many gears to achieve the desired result and were never really tested. A long season ahead and bigger fish to fry. Three points and a great start. Zenit are a useful side that hadn’t lost in their previous 20 odd outings. Not bad for the supposed 3rd best side in the group. We may actually find Juve an easier nut to crack whilst Malmo should be a banker 6 points. On to Tottenham. Really looking forward to that one.

18th September 2021 at 11:16 pm #185369I think Tuchel is having a few dilemas in certain areas of the pitch. Key among them is, does he recall Reece James after suspension? Or does he play Azpi, then put Christensen as the RCB and retain Silva at the centre? I think the former will be good. Keep Reece James at RWB and use Azpi as the RCB and keep Christensen at the heart of our defence. That back five is our best combination.
Does he recall Kante and drop Kovacic who is in the form of his life? Or does he keep Kante on the bench and stick with Kovacic because of his form of late and the fact that Kante is returning from injury? I think the later is the best option. Keep Kante as an insurance should we need him. And continue playing Kovacic istead.
Does he play Havertz in one of the No10s behind Lukaku or does he change game and play Ziyech due to the fact that Spurs will sit deep and try to hit us on the break, and Ziyech’s long cross field passes could crate a route? I personally think, he should stick with Kai Havertz as he is a goal threat.
Alonso vs Chilwell is an easy decision stick with Alonso for now because of his form. Rudiger, Mendy, Lukaku, Jorginho and Mount are guaranteed starters.

19th September 2021 at 4:50 pm #185434The thought of seeing Kepa in our goal is giving me jitters, to be honest. our defence and midfield are all over the place. we need to regain control in midfield. Kante is needed as soon as possible. I also feel we are outnumbered in that department. revert 3-5-2 and bring Mount in midfield to even things.

19th September 2021 at 6:19 pm #185442You were spot on there YB it was exactly the change to 352 and introduction of kante that turned this game in our favour

19th September 2021 at 8:11 pm #185453Well, delighted with the result. it has been an even first half with neither team creating clear cut chances, although, Spurs edged be controlling the midfield battle. in the second half, Chelsea was the better team and deserved the points on the basis of our second-half performance. we could have scored more than 3 had we been clinical enough.
Next week could be our biggest game of the season. I hope we don’t lose that game. it will be interesting to see who Tuchel goes for. will he play 2 up top and use Werner’s pace to hit City on the break? or will he go toe to toe with City? I think the former makes sense, going toe to toe with City carries its risks.
I have to say, Silva surprised me today, his performance has been unreal. and for him to score and keep a clean sheet against the division’s deadliest duo in Kane and Son shows the level he is playing at currently. Jorginho has also highlighted his importance to our team. Even Alonso is playing a level above his usual displays. and I also have to give credit to Kepa, I was feeling jitters when I saw him in our lineup. but fair enough he rose to the occasion.
The injury to Mount is a bit worrying given he is important to our set-up. but at least that is one area that we have plenty of options. next week midfield trio of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic is the best for me.

21st September 2021 at 8:47 pm #185491AnonymousLiverpool are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The 20-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup and has only featured in one of the Blues’ five Premier League games so far this season.
Hudson-Odoi was strongly linked with a loan move to Borussia Dortmund during the last knockings of the summer transfer window, but Tuchel affirmed that it was “impossible” for the club to let him go and he must rather rot on the bench._____________________________

22nd September 2021 at 12:30 am #185517One of the Reasons why CHO is complaining at Chelsea is lack of game time, as he is behind Pulisic, Werner, Havertz, Mount in the 2 positions behind Lukaku. How will his situation change if he goes to Liveepool and is playing behind Salah, Mane, Ferminho and Jota? At least at Chelsea he has friends, familiar environment and good salary which he won’t have at Liverpool. The only thing that can tempt him is playing time, and at the moment i can’t see him achieving that at Liverpool. The guy is only 20 but has already won the Europa league amd Champions league. He only needs enough game time to develop further

22nd September 2021 at 7:03 am #185519CHO when given a chance at Chelsea needs to go to another level. He really needs to turn heads. He hasn’t quite done that yet. Today against Villa is, I assume, his chance to knock the socks off everybody and get the pundits talking. A bit like auditions on Britain’s Got Talent. If you don’t win the votes with a yes, yes, YES and YES you don’t get a chance at going to the big dance. Maybe he simply cannot go to that next level that wins you a regular starting spot in the first eleven. Up to you Callum lad.
