Yeah totally agree YB, 12 months ago I wouldnt have cared as I thought he had reached his ceiling and fallen short of the player we thought he could be. He has got better and better over last 12 months, much more aggressive and competitive in air and the perfect centre back for coaches like tuchel/pep.

28th August 2021 at 3:53 pm #183817AnonymousHave you lads noticed that the Chelsea page is actually more active than the Liverpool one? Gone are the days where ye were all kinda worried that ti was being taken over by Pool scum ha.
Anyway, thought I’d pop in and say good luck for the game today. Hope we don’t see any controversial incidents and no injuries. May the best team win and hopefully it’ll be a cracker with a great atmosphere!

2. Rudiger
3. Alonso
4. Christensen
5. Jorginho
7. Kante
9. Lukaku
19. Mount
24. James
29. Havertz
28. AzpilicuetaThat is the line up saw on the Chelsea page. not sure how accurate it is. but it seems that Havertz is trusted more than Werner. as for the rest, there is no contest.

28th August 2021 at 5:17 pm #183828I definitely trust Havertz as seemingly so does the Manager but Liverpool play a very high line and I thought Tuchel might use Werner’s pace against that which worked well at Anfield last season but Havertz is the more complete player.

28th August 2021 at 5:27 pm #183830I think that’s our best 11 at the moment.
Werners pace even more useful late on lads hopefully especially if we have a lead.
Fingers crossed π€ this will be tough

28th August 2021 at 8:40 pm #183883“Kurt Zoumaβs seven-and-a-half year Chelsea career is at an end after the defender today completed a permanent move to West Ham United.
Zouma leaves Stamford Bridge having made 151 appearances for the Blues and scored 10 goals. His last game was our UEFA Super Cup success, one of five trophies he won during his time in west London having arrived from Saint-Etienne in 2014.Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: βKurt Zouma joined us as a young player and has been a part of so many important moments for this club over the past seven-and-a-half years.
‘He showed incredible strength of character to return from a very serious injury in 2016, and he has always been an extremely popular character in the dressing room. We thank him for his contribution on and off the pitch for Chelsea, and wish him the very best in the next stage of his career.β
ZOUMA HELPED US TO TWO LEAGUE TITLES DURING HIS TIME AT STAMFORD BRIDGE
Zouma signed for Chelsea in January 2014, staying at Saint-Etienne on loan for the second half of that campaign. He joined his new teammates in the summer, and the then 19-year-oldβs competitive Chelsea debut was a memorable one as he opened the scoring in a 2-1 League Cup win over Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge in September 2014.After helping us beat Liverpool in the semi-final, Zoumaβs individual season highlight was in the final of that same competition at Wembley. Deployed in a central defensive midfield role, Zouma starred as the Blues won 2-0.
A first Premier League title soon followed at the end of a very promising first campaign in English football in which Zouma made 26 appearances in all competitions and made his debut for the France national team.
Zouma established himself as a first-choice centre-back in 2015/16 and scored his maiden Premier League goal in a victory at home to Arsenal.
THE DEFENDER HEADS IN HIS FIRST BLUES GOAL AGAINST ARSENAL
Heartbreak struck in February 2016, however, as Zouma ruptured his cruciate ligament when landing awkwardly after contesting an aerial duel in a game against Manchester United. It would be over 10 months until he featured for Chelsea again, but Zouma was on the pitch when we clinched the league title at West Brom, just as he had been when we defeated Crystal Palace to do the same two years prior.
After the 2016/17 season, Zouma embarked on season-long loan moves to Stoke City and then Everton to play regularly and return to the levels he had reached before that serious knee injury.
He rejoined the Bluesβ squad ahead of 2019/20 and grabbed the second chance with both hands, remaining a regular throughout a campaign which was paused by the Covid-19 pandemic. His 43 appearances in all competitions was 15 more than any other Chelsea centre-back.
Defensive reinforcements increased competition in that area of the pitch last season, and while Zouma still accumulated 36 appearances, only 13 of those came after Thomas Tuchelβs arrival midway through the campaign.
Zouma nonetheless made five appearances in our successful Champions League campaign, most importantly helping us keep a clean sheet in the home victory over Atletico Madrid in the round of 16.
In Porto, where he was an unused sub, he added the prize of Europeβs elite competition to the two Premier League titles and the League Cup he won at Chelsea prior to his domestic loan moves. A Super Cup triumph followed earlier this month and, with it, Zoumaβs 151st and final Chelsea appearance.
An immensely likeable character around Cobham from the moment he arrived, and always living up to his middle name Happy, even during the long road to recovery from injury in 2016, Zouma was an important member of the Chelsea squad for the five seasons he was in it.
He moves across London as a Premier League winner and a Champions League winner, and with the best wishes of everyone at Chelsea. Good luck in the future, Kurt!” CFC site.
All the best Kurt you always gave 110% and always played with a smile on your face.

28th August 2021 at 10:12 pm #183886Nine how about christensen again today mate? So happy he had this time under tuchel to prove he is worth new contract. So many players improved since he came in.
Kovacic is a phenomenal player now, if only he could shoot eh? π kante wasn’t fully fit today and passing was off, before we went down to 10 men I fancied kovacic to come on in his place and for us to go up a level in second half. Still have kante and jorginho as first choice pairing when kante is fully fit, but kovacic is so close to being first choice in my estimation now I am delighted with him every second he plays for us..well except when he tries to shoot of course!

28th August 2021 at 11:52 pm #183890I’m still bitter about the red card, but i’m wondering how we have not scored 2 goals at least when the game were 11v11. We had several chances to score the second goal that wouls have taken the steam out of the game. I was on record saying that we should go there to win, and credit to Tuchel he went there with the intention to win, but incompetent referee has ruined his plans.
There are several heroes today, but the ones that standout for me was Christensen and Rudiger, two players who were destined to leave before Tuchel has arrived. What a difference coaching methods do for players, also Alonso we excellent Chilwell has a fight in his hands to win back his place. Delighted to see Silva come on and calm the nerves, i was worried our players would lose their head. And mr. reliable Azpi is always 10/10. And not to mention the true hero of the night big Mendy.
Happy for Havertz that he is now settling in well after the Covid case and injury plus form problems, he seems to be taking the manttle now. But l’m worried for Mount as the lad has played more games and had little rest. We have 3 weeks to nurse Kante before the trip to Spurs.

29th August 2021 at 1:48 am #183892A draw away from home v Liverpool is a credible result any day of the week. To do so considering the circumstances is outstanding and shows how far these guys have come in 8 odd months. Watch the videos on the official Club website of the comradery, the togetherness of these players and you understand how that translates to matchday. They go to war together. Hand to ball, ball, to hand? Probably doesnβt matter greatly inside the penalty area so I guess the penalty was the correct decision however that is where it ends. That, to me was not intended, the speed with which it happened, accidental and a penalty yes, send off no. Really it ruined the game as a spectacle as we all knew what to expect from there on in. The fact they got out of there with a point will have galvanised them even more than if there had been no red card and they had only drawn the match. Sensational effort and result and the half time subs were perfect as it turned out even if Kanteβs subbing had been a forced one. Kovacic did a great job in his place. Bringing on Thiago Silva also significant in achieving the end result. Tuchel impresses more and more with each match with selection and his tactical nous. One worry I had was playing Alonso against Liverpool in the first place with their speed on the counter and the fact Chelsea were not going to dominate possession and the game generally and then leaving him out there after half time however the boss knows better than any of us. Enjoy the two week break guys and take care 999.

29th August 2021 at 8:55 am #183901AnonymousPutting everything said in the matchday thread aside, Chelsea were every bit as good as I expected them to be and the defensive performance of the 2nd half was even better. A draw isnt a result that I’m happy with and I don’t think ye will be either, given what’s being said but we’ve both got so many games ahead where our teams will dominate the opposition. It’s impossible to say anything for sure but my guess is that we’ll be seeing eachother in or around the top of the table, later on this season.

29th August 2021 at 11:06 am #183922Mak I would have taken a draw before the game mate and all things considered I am happy. Both teams were amazing that first half mak, however it would have panned out 11 v 11 the red spoiled the game it was a cracker that 1st half really was and full credit to both teams for that. Prem footie at its best imo mate.

29th August 2021 at 11:19 am #183923AnonymousWell, good that we can agree that the red spoiled the game. We might not on whether it was just etc but ya, it definitely did spoil the affair as a spectacle (they so often do). it bring up the argument for sin-bin punishment and also penalty goals.
I think it would be fairer to award a penalty goal and 10 minutes sin bin, instead of penalty and red card. In this particular situation, it’s extra bad because the player had so little time to think about what he was doing. It wasnt at all like Suarez in the WC (against I think Ghana).
Many liverpool fans would have taken a draw before the game also, I think i was probably in the minority there in that regard. Had it been Stamford Bridge though…
anyway GL

29th August 2021 at 11:19 am #183924Like you Lucky I would have taken 1-1 ahead of ko and at ht even more so.
I think it’s a game we could have probably won but for the sending off and the penalty which apart from going down to 10 men completely disrupted the team because we had to take Havertz off lost James to the red card and Kante to injury.
It also prevented us from using our substitutes effectively I’m sure we would have seen the pace of Werner in the second half when Liverpool were tiring.
At FT I was delighted with the point but I can’t help being a tad disappointed in thinking what might have been.π
