Mak, I was describing Lukaku’s press conference on his introduction as a Chelsea player last Wednesday if you check the date which was the 18/09π

23rd August 2021 at 7:33 am #183239Difficult to describe Lukaku’s performance as anything else but dominant YB but probably best to let others say it. He got this right though YB βI feel blessed to be in this situation, that I have many, many players whom I can link up with in the team.”.π

“Difficult to describe Lukakuβs performance as anything else but dominant YB but probably best to let others say it.”
Dominant it might have been but ya, downplay it a bit and as you say, let other heap praise if they want to. I dont have a major gripe with him at all, it’s just a trend you see in modern society and I wish people would tone it down a bit.

23rd August 2021 at 8:12 am #183244To be fair I thought he did downplay
The interviewer put words in his mouth and he kept turning it around to mention the team as much as possible I thought_____________________________

23rd August 2021 at 9:38 am #183253To be honest Nine, Lukaku is not an English native, may be he wanted to say excellent and got dominant instead. I don’t think Lukaku was using that dominant word in a bragging manner. The reported asked him a question that he wasn’t prepared for, and him being non English speaker thought that word as the right word. I watched his post match interview, and it was fine.
May be many rival fans may feel belittled by his performances. He was calm in the interview never shown any drama. And after all, it good to show some confidence. All the top players except Messi has that arrogance in them. I don’t know why we should hold the Chelsea players in a different standard.

23rd August 2021 at 10:17 am #183257Probably yes, what else could we describe. The fact that we are discussing about his post match interview and not his match performances says a lot.

23rd August 2021 at 10:28 am #183258AnonymousIt says that i didn’t see the match and only the post match interview but why can i not comment on something without some deep emotional investment in it? I think this says a lot alright but maybe not what you intended.

23rd August 2021 at 11:08 am #183259Personally, i thought his post match interview was fine and there was no display of arrogance. If he used that dominant word just in a normal context. But people have only picked that word for criticism.

23rd August 2021 at 11:30 am #183262YB, plenty of opposition fans were disrespectful of the Lukaku signing even some Chelsea fans on the Chelsea TT site and as the Ed said on the match day thread on here
“Not at all surprised by Lukakuβs start. I often found myself defending him when most thought he wasnβt good enough for Utd. βHis first touch is poorβ, βHe doesnβt hold the ball up well enoughβ. He guarantees goals and always will. Is he an all round great striker? No, but put great players around him and heβll always score goals. Could never understand the criticism of him at Utd.”
As you rightly said English isn’t Lukaku’s first language and everyone had talked about his dominant performance and he had probably been told that too. So when asked the question that was his reply anyone who has heard Lukaku speak at length will know he’s a super humble guy.
We should really be debating his performance which was exceptional and I suspect will only get better as he gets used to his teammates and they to him.

23rd August 2021 at 11:43 am #183264Reports that Chelsea have agreed a Β£26m fee with West Ham for Zouma wages might still be a problem but if it goes through I suspect Kounde might be on his way to Chelsea.

23rd August 2021 at 12:33 pm #183268I have no issue with Lukaku using the word dominant however would prefer if he were to use it after the match this coming weekend instead of yesterday :)))))

23rd August 2021 at 2:05 pm #183274Difficult game to call Lucky it will definitely be several steps up from Arsenal but win lose or draw I think we have to stay calm it’s a long season I expect us to close the points gaps to Liverpool and City over the past couple of seasons that has to be our first objective.
I will be disappointed with anything less than a top 3 finish this season.

23rd August 2021 at 3:10 pm #183280Here’s Rom’s full response to the interviewers question from the Sky interview judged in its entirety overall I think Roma was pretty humble.
Asked about his performance, Lukaku told Sky Sports: “Dominant, I would say. I try to improve every time. I have a long way to go but today was good to win.
“I worked hard throughout the week. We knew it was a big game and we did well. As an individual, I want to help the team and I want to continue doing that.”

23rd August 2021 at 4:50 pm #183287I agree Nine, better teams than us have been beaten at anfield and still gone on to win the title, but if we can perform and get the 3 points it would be a massive boost of confidence for everyone
I fancy 1-1 and would take that to be honest

23rd August 2021 at 5:35 pm #183294I would want us to go there with the intention of winning the game. Liverpool is a very tough match, but they are bot unbeatable. We can beat them if we get right. I would love us to go two up top and play Werner alongside Lukaku. They could compliment each other. One has pace and the other has power. In the middle i would play a flat 3 midfield trio of Kovacic, Jorginho and Kante. I would select the same back 3 and wingbacks for this game due to fitness as Chilwell hasn’t played a game since 29 May. That team would give Liverpool a run for their money.

23rd August 2021 at 6:47 pm #183298I would take a draw if we are not good enough, because it’s better than a defeatπ. But at this moment, i’m not keen on a draw. Liverpool is one of the best teams in the world and Klopp is one of the greatest managers in the world. So a draw with them is not that bad. But i still would be keen to see Chelsea have the belief that we can win the game amd not sit back.
Granted that Liverpool has the fire power and pace upfront, we are also good in that deparent this season. Lukaku and Werner up top would be a nightmare to any defence with pace and power. We also have Ziyech one of the most creative midfielders in the PL. Add that toMount who is one of the best box to box midfielders at 22. With our strong midfield also great. Alonso and James can match Arnold and Robertson. Liberpool’s wingers are a class above ours, their CBs? VVD is a class above our defenders, but i’m not sure if Matip is anywhere near Rudiger. And you have Azpi? The game is evenly balanced and aby team can win. Although Liverpool has a slight advantage by virtue of being the home team, with the crown behind them.
