Tuchel has indicated he won’t start any of the players who have recently returned to training.

Nice to get the trophy nine, performance wasn’t great but will take it. It was the ultimate pre season game shame its so close to opening league game though,

P.s, didn’t I say months ago we will try our best to sign haaland but if it was a no go we would get lukaku? Shame it took months to sort 😊

Cheers Sean. Tbh we made hard work of it we should have put it to bed by HT. Too many chances spurned and we could have done without the extra 30: minutes ahead of the Palace game and not losing Ziyech to what looks like a serious injury.

Tough trophy to win though when you take into consideration what you have to win to compete for it.

You have to win the cl to get to the super cup abd wcc so it’s another trophy for Chelsea

I didn’t see much of the game but Chelsea’s bench was unreal and it wasn’t a bad starting 11 either

In fairness stevo, chelsea are being run probably now. They comply with fffp. They sell and buy. They had a head start with Roman came in but last few years, they are going about it the right way

“Chelsea were initially sanctioned by Fifa in February after breaching article 19 of its regulations on the status and transfer of players, which concerns the protection of minors. The club were also found to have breached article 18, concerning third-party influence.”

“We’re happy to have Romelu back in the club; we think in terms of personality, speed, power, he can be hopefully an excellent choice for us,” said the German.

“He has the power, the physique to help us, he has the experience, the personality to have a huge impact. He is at the same time a humble guy, and a true team player player and he cares about Chelsea.”

Speaking about expectations, he added: “Everybody who can read saw that we came fourth and we needed some help on the last match day from our rivals to arrive in fourth place and make it in the end a successful season.

“When you come fourth, you are not the favourites in the next season, we have some gaps to close.

“We let Liverpool pass us in the last match and we have a big gap to close to Manchester United and Manchester City. When I see the transfer market and the activity from City and United, I don’t see why they should be any worse than last season.

“We see ourselves as hunters, as challengers for the three teams that landed in front of us.”

Chelsea initially signed Lukaku from Anderlecht in 2011 but he was restricted to just 15 first-team appearances – in which he failed to score – and loaned out to West Brom and Everton.

He was allowed to move to Goodison Park on a permanent deal in 2014 before continuing his development into one of the world’s finest frontmen during spells with Manchester United and Inter.

Tuchel praised the player’s determination to come back to west London.

“He is super hungry. He did everything to take this little chance to make it happen because with Inter he was a huge player, with all the responsibility on his shoulders and with a big title (Serie A) in the last season,” he said.

“It was actually very important to us that his desire to rejoin Chelsea and to finish his project and story at Chelsea in the way he wanted to for himself.

“We have a strong group that is defined with a strong bond and with a certain attitude to be ready to help each other out and to support each other.

“We think that Romelu coming from the academy and having always Chelsea in his heart is the perfect addition to our group because he embodies all that we are proud of in this club.”

So pleased for Chalobah with his goal he’s had a very good pre season and was very good v Villarreal too hope we can keep hold of him and develop him further at Chelsea this season. Great to get 3 points and with a decent performance too.

“Playing at Stamford Bridge – where I’ve watched a lot of games, being ball boy, coming to watch the games with my family, Champions League nights… now I’m finally playing here and it’s amazing.

In respect of Palace it will be interesting to see how they do this season they’ve taken a risk with Vierra and in trying to change their profile.

Sad to see Tammy go I had hoped he would make it at Chelsea it’s always great to see your own coming through and be succesful in the first team and we’ve got a few of those at Chelsea now but I understand the Club couldn’t go another season hoping that Tammy would step up hence the signing of Lukaku.

I’m glad Tammy is going to Roma I think it will be good for him as will working under Jose and I would have hated to see Tammy banging in goals for Arsenal.

I think Tammy may well develop further and it was wise of the Club to build in a buy back clause.

It’s another £34m in the Bank and I can only wish Tammy the very best of luck.
