Nine, thats a fine work around but surely need to scrap away goals rule for this tie as neither team ever have home advantage and imagine it is level on aggregate and we go out because porto score a goal in the game marked as chelseas home game, would be a nonsense really. If level on aggregate we need to go to extra time its the only fair solution for me

30th March 2021 at 5:26 pm #176939Get where you’re coming from buddie but unfortunately I don’t think that’s the the way UEFA will see it and it swings both ways should we score an away goal in the first leg.
Let’s hope for an away goal or two for us in the first leg.π€ππ€

30th March 2021 at 6:33 pm #176941Yeah but either way it swings if away goals decide a 2 leg game where both games are played in same venue without fans then its a bit of a nonsense.
Not that I expect the sensible from UEFA though

2nd April 2021 at 8:34 am #176988βChelsea have moved into pole position to land Aguero, who wants to remain in England according to the Daily Mail.β
More likely than Haaland imo.

3rd April 2021 at 1:33 pm #177020Silva
Really poor for such an experienced player to get 2 yellows like that and completely give the opposition a chance to get something, not forgetting his stinker the last time we played WBA
He was played constantly by lamps and despite some great performances, especially in champs league, ultimately Chelsea dropped to 10th and lamps got the sack with silva at heart of defence
He has been injured and the team has done fine
Can we really argue that he has been a great signing? I don’t think we can, just a decent short term fix to a problem that only existed due to inept coaching. Tuchel has proven we had the players to keep clean sheets at the club without him and it was desperation to sign him really.
Silva aside we should have defended better for the goals we conceded even down to 10 we should be more organised, have a chance of a point still but gutted with this first half

3rd April 2021 at 1:48 pm #177021Jorginho has been awful today Lucky and his pass put Silva in trouble which led to his sending off. Of course Silva was never a long term fix how could he be at 36 but overall the first West Brom game aside he has been quality and bought players on around him too. He did look a tad rusty today but it was his first game for nearly three months. All over now. We might need to win the CL to play in it next season.π

3rd April 2021 at 1:58 pm #177024Overall even red card aside I think we deserved a bit of a hiding for starting so sloppily and with so little conviction, as though we expected the 3 points to deliver themselves. Not good enough.
Suppose its not a coincidence after international break and we will see how the other top teams play this weekend, but its no excuse for today. Was the same when we played them last under lamps, arrogance leading to complacency and that is down to players

3rd April 2021 at 2:03 pm #177026Nine my point re silva was not to complain he wasn’t a long term fix, it was to point out as tuchel has proven that he wasn’t even needed in the short term.
We have a good squad nine just needs good coaching, I think we can challenge for title next season without signing any one, so if we do sign no need for short term fixes at our club, just time for tuchel to work with what we have.

3rd April 2021 at 2:22 pm #177027You’re right Lucky we do have a good squad whether it’s currently good enough to win the PL is open to conjecture I will trust in Tommy to decide if, where and who we might need strengthening. π

3rd April 2021 at 3:00 pm #177029I think our players and coaches only have eyes for champs league right now nine. Part of me happy with that as I think we have a chance but we are very much at risk of failing to finish top 4 if we continue to drop points either side of CL games and when you look at it the bad performances since tuchel took charge have all been just before or just after CL games.

3rd April 2021 at 3:11 pm #177032The games on either side of a CL game are always risky and you can’t just turn up and expect you’ll going to win especially against teams fighting for their lives.
Big risk if Tuchel and the Coaches really are putting all their eggs in the CL basket if that’s what they’re doing because there are still some great teams in there.
Let’s hope for a massively improved performance on Wednesday night I think we’ll need one.

3rd April 2021 at 3:20 pm #177033Lucky why do you think Chelsea have all eyes on the cl mate? Itβs one defeat which happened because of a sending off…
Mount had played all the internationals so no surprise he wasnβt playing today. I wouldnβt look to much into this defeat at all

3rd April 2021 at 4:08 pm #177039Sean, because as explained in previous post there is a pattern of poor performances before and after CL games, that combined with tuchels selections in these games is clear evidence both he and the players are more focused on CL than prem
We were terrible before the sending off

3rd April 2021 at 4:27 pm #177040Lucky, Managers have to rotate either side of CL games they can’t keep playing the same eleven players in every game and Chelsea won’t be the only ones rotating players each side of competing in Europe this week.
I think it’s a function of not over stretching the players fitness wise with so many games to play rather than focusing on the CL over the PL.

3rd April 2021 at 4:59 pm #177042Nine of course mate, and I have zero criticism of tuchel’s selections in these games.
But when you rotate it inevitably means you will field stronger teams in some games than others. That we are always fielding our strongest team in CL and using the prem games to rotate is exactly my point. No criticism, on the contrary I understand and endorse tuchel’s decisions, but it is just an observation and we clearly prioritise the CL games. Let’s hope it pays off π

3rd April 2021 at 5:57 pm #177044Yeah it was Sean mate and if their focus was right today as a collective we would have seen a different result, there will be nothing wrong with the focus against porto though.

3rd April 2021 at 6:05 pm #177045I’m over it, it was a one off result due to various circumstances it’s put pressure on us in the race for a top 4 spot but realistically the main pressure for that came from the 5 PL games we lost under Frank in December and January.
Like Lucky I expect us to be a different team v Porto if not we’ll be in trouble but I think Tommy will dissect the game and then bend the ears of the players.
