The season kicks off soon, and the charity shield is this Sunday.
Always a match which means something if you win, but is only a friendly if you lose.
I think Arsenal could continue with three at the back, likely without Sanchez. They have to start the season well.

1st August 2017 at 11:20 pm #2995Welcome to the site Alfie.
Can’t believe it’s here again now. The summer seems to have flown by and I’ve actually quite enjoyed the break from football but I’m glad it’s back.
As for the game, I fancy Arsenal again. They’re the masters of turning on the style when the odds are against them. They’ve not really made any exciting signings but, as you say, their 3 at the back seemed to be the turning point for them last season and they looked a different side after the switch.
Will be nice to see it as a neutral anyway!

2nd August 2017 at 1:38 pm #2998AnonymousCheers Ed.
Be interesting to see Morata play and how he fits in. Lacazette seems to have gelled quite well in the Arsenal line up already.
Chelsea could be got at last season, but you have to watch the counter attack. Wenger always seems to ignore that side of things though!

2nd August 2017 at 4:39 pm #2999Agree Alfie, there will be a few strikers to look out for this season. Each one of the top clubs now has someone capable of scoring 20+ league goals a season.
Chelsea definitely showed last season they could be got at. Will be interesting to see where Morata plays. I read in pre-season he was played on the left which seems a bit odd. Looking forward to the game

2nd August 2017 at 10:36 pm #3004AnonymousThe PL could well be won by the team whose striker settles in the quickest.

I’m saying 2-1 Arsenal to win in extra time.

6th August 2017 at 8:27 am #3050Doesn’t look like Sanchez will make it. Hazard, Costa, Bakayoko all out too. Will be good to see the two new strikers in Morata and Lacazette coming up against each other at least. Let’s hope both teams treat it as a proper game rather than a warm-up like we so often see.

6th August 2017 at 5:22 pm #3056The Charity Shield is only of interest to the fans of those teams in it. I would be watching the game if it was a Premiership game, but think I’ll stick to Moeen thrashing the south Africans around!

6th August 2017 at 5:38 pm #3058Poor, poor challenge from Pedro and a well deserved red card. Meaningless match really but for me it showed Chelsea are definitely not as solid as they were at the start of last season. Missing Matic maybe? Bakayoko needs to step up now and claim that spot

6th August 2017 at 5:48 pm #3059Fair enough Hightown! It’s only really these odd number years where there’s no Euros or World Cup that I feel so starved of proper football enough to be interested in the community shield. It’s rarely a good game anyway!

7th August 2017 at 8:49 am #3062AnonymousTwo lineups which would not instill fear in anyone. Shows a lack of depth at Chelsea and lack of quality at Arsenal.
Think Chelsea rely on hazard. When he is off form so are Chelsea.

7th August 2017 at 12:25 pm #3067AnonymousAgree with that Alfie. 1-11 they’re both decent teams but lacking in depth considerably beyond that. It’s hard to understand why Chelsea seem to have let so many players go in recent months and not really replaced them.
Utd have recently suffered from the opposite where the first eleven is just not quite good enough to mount a serious title challenge whilst the depth has not been a problem.
