Excellent result for Liverpool last night, two downsides – the away goals and the fan who was attacked.
The tie is not over, but if Liverpool can get a goal in Rome then it must surely be them in the final. Never say never in football, but it’s difficult to see Roma staging another remarkable comeback.

25th April 2018 at 1:23 pm #20981Mak-Ed and 999 have said it that they can see Liverpool winning this year CL`s trophy.
On the other hand,I`m struggling to find who are United playing in the semis…._____________________________

26th April 2018 at 10:24 am #21017Nil I dunno why you think that display v Barca was a 1 off, their home record is excellent this season & like Anfield their place is a cauldron. I bet Messi, Suarez & co thought they were sweet before that Q/F & fancied their chances of scoring.
I do think we could score but if they change their system to how it was when they scored a couple I wouldnβt put it past them to score 4, itβs not like we are solid at the back. Lovern is always a brain fart from costing a goal & despite his improvement Karius doesnβt exactly fill me with confidence. Letβs not forget they were all over us early at Anfield & with the crowd urging them on I just donβt think this tie is as close to over as others do.
That middle part of the game was unbelievable but instead of being safe we once again made it hard for ourselves. I suppose Iβm a bit like Sean, after so many disappointments over the years Iβm almost expecting the stuff up.
Hard to believe after so many good performances this season we still might not even be in the C/L next season. Ah well thatβs football I suppose._____________________________

26th April 2018 at 12:08 pm #21019Oz, I guess you and I have different mindsets.
As part of our identity in who we are as one of the most successful clubs, we have a collective history in either squandering opportunities or just plain misfortune – take into account the credit given to the opposition. Losing to Wimbledon in 1988 and squandering the Title to Arsenal when we could still afford to lose, but by one goal only, that sums us up as Liverpool and part of the territory.
I believe as far as this season has been so far, even though we didn’t do well in the domestics, I would be more than convinced that we have turned the corner and are more difficult to beat.
Klopp has also improved certain individual players like Firmino, Lallana, Henderson, and Can.
The fact that we’ve exceeded more than expectations already in the CL suggests to me that we’re not a million miles away from capturing our first piece of silverware.
I for one genuinely feel good about what we have achieved in progress so far.
Cheers

26th April 2018 at 1:51 pm #21026AnonymousA good post Oz (Number8?). I agree with most of that except I would be a little less cautious. I’m not ultra confident or anything, everything you said about their home form and stadium is bang on. Could they score 4? Absolutely… but where I would disagree slightly with is that in all that time that they are scoring or looking to score, we will have chances. We will have our own spells and we’ve all seen what we do in these spells. In fact we’re becoming even more lethal as the season progresses. So, I think we will score and if we get 1, that’s a dent in their atmosphere. If we get one , maybe it ends the tie, maybe we get 2.
I want to be totally clear, it’s not a forgone thing . Roma have a genuine chance but , it is a small chance. I said 10% before and I really think that’s the perfect number when you factor everything in.
My own thinking on this though, besides the football side of things is that the match should be played behind closed doors. Its late but I think there is going to be trouble. I think there is a chance that some people will go to that match and never go home again.
UEFA need to step in but you know they wont.

26th April 2018 at 2:45 pm #21029Mak, there is worryingly a big chance of problems ahead of this match and after this match but there’s not a chance of UEFA playing this game behind closed doors.
Hopefully the Police can keep the Liverpool fans safe but even the enormous Police presence in and around Anfueld did prevent that poor guy from Ireland being attacked with Roma fans pictured holding hammers.

26th April 2018 at 9:59 pm #21032Having obviously time to reflect and revisit the highlights, I honestly believe even on their own patch, we don’t have a great deal to worry about.
After Salah’s wonder-goal, the rest of our goals we like we didn’t even get out of second gear and bust a gut.
Alison is like a Mignolet and let’s pretty much everything in – need to shop elsewhere for a new Keeper. Not only that too, their defense is players ball-watching.
The 2 goals we let in very much was just off-guard, late on, with a dodgy penalty decision. I can’t see them scoring 3 and keeping a clean sheet.
Let’s enjoy the ride π

27th April 2018 at 12:46 am #21033Nil I actually agree bud, I don’t think we are too far away from tasting some sort off success. We are awesome going forward & have strengthened at the back. A lack of quality in depth is probably our weakness but hopefully that will be rectified in the summer window.
I do hope your right & we get through & just as importantly snag that top 4 spot as that’s crucial to our progression.
Mak: no doubt we are in the box seat mate but I’m not ultra confident this tie is over. As I said they are very capable of scoring 3 or 4 & not conceding at their place. Hopefully we will get the job done after a good win on the weekend to ease the nerves a bit.
This fan safety is a big issue, crazy to think in this day & age this stuff still happens. They’ve done a great job in England to nullify this sort of behavior so hopefully all fans get home safely after the big game next week._____________________________

27th April 2018 at 5:04 am #21034Anonymous“Alison is like a Mignolet and letβs pretty much everything in”
I agree with your post in general except this. Not only did he not let pretty much everything in (who would save that Salah opener? Nobody). Salah’s second was beautifully dinked over from what was actually just him being hamstrung by a ridiculous high line tactical selection. Mane’s goal was 100% not the keepers fault and he even places that in the bottom corner. Again, who is gonna save that? Thats up to the defence. Did you see the way that he just catches Firmino’s shot in the first half out of the air ? I was impressed by it. Neither of Firminos goals say anything about the keeper either but more on the fact that we shredded their defence.
This Mignolet-esque keeper is wanted by the top clubs in the world and the fee will likely be Β£80m+.

27th April 2018 at 5:17 am #21035AnonymousOz Yob , will you please answer me if yer Number8 or not? I’ve a feeling you are . If you already said it before and I missed it, apologies mate.
Now, as far as ” Iβm not ultra confident this tie is over”. I feel I’ve got to clarify something. When I say that we’re most likely through, I’m trying to be objective on the matter and not thinking about things in the way that a supporter usually does (seeing things that will come back to bite them etc).
If you were to ask the neutrals, my guess is that it would be a resounding “Liverpool very likely to go through tot he next round”. They aren’t bound by our worries or our superstitions. it is only logical to look at a 3 goal advantage and think that if it’s only been over-turned 3 times ever in the KO rounds, then we’re in a very very strong position.
Could we mess it up and make it 4? ABSOLUTELY. So I wouldn’t say that I am ultra confident, as the supporter in me only sees the potential slip ups when we’re heading into the big big games.
So my point in all of this is that confidence doesn’t come into it. I don’t see us already in the final until it happens. As much doubt as I have or worries that I have of us falling to pieces are balanced out by cold hard logic.
So while I think we will be in the final, it’s far from a foregone conclusion to me. If you saw, I was posting about how I didnt want Roma when we drew them. I talked about their incredible Roma record.

27th April 2018 at 8:44 am #21038Mak, personally I would be amazed if Liverpool don’t make the Final from here and from what I saw on Wednesday night they’ve got every chance of lifting the trophy in Kiev no matter whether it’s Real in the Final as currently seems likely or Bayern.
Having said that logic goes out of the window when you are a fan and worries creep in and Liverpool’s history is decorated with a remarkable comeback in just 45 minutes to win the trophy from 3 goals down and memories are recent of Roma turning over a similar lead v Barca just a few short weeks ago couple that with a defense that at times we all know can be a tad vulnerable and you can see why some Liverpool fans are still a tad wary.
Personally I think you’ll be fine it would take one helluva of a turn around in both form and tactics from Tuesday night even in the Stadio Olimpico to make the Roma team we saw on Tuesday anywhere near a match for Liverpool and then you have the pace and quality of your front three probably the best in Europe right now which I’m sure will plunder a goal or two for you.
Kiev beckons for sure imo but if you’re a fan of the team involved you can never enjoy these things until they are all over and the trophies won. Cheers 999
