Wonderful display overall from the Reds tonight.
There’s no hiding from those 2 Roma away goals, but that equates to 5-4 as it stands.
But put it all into context, nobody realistically envisaged this from Liverpool and maybe some out there in the back of their minds thought Man City demolition was a ‘one hit wonder’.
We proved against a more resistant opposition.
I’m not being assuming going into the second leg and nothing’s in the bag till that final whistle next Wednesday Night, but, I don’t believe we’ll walk away from Rome, not adding to our tally.

24th April 2018 at 9:49 pm #20922I thought Firmino and Salah were fabulous tonight. Disappointing to conceded the late goals but that won’t be a problem Liverpool will score in Rome for sure.
Not taking anything away from Liverpool but Roma were defendivrly woeful and tactically naieve with the high line which was suicidal against this Liverpool team and what was worse from a Roma viewpoint was Di Francesco did nothing to change it and it looked like Liverpool would score every time they attacked.
It was like the guys on BT Sport said it was as if Roma had never seen how Liverpool play.
I thought the penalty was harsh too.
Great result for Liverpool though and much more than a foot in the Final.

24th April 2018 at 10:14 pm #20924It’s game on.
Sense of disappointment after that but brilliant attacking performance
Lovren just should a silly piece of defending

25th April 2018 at 6:29 am #20925When we were 5-0 up I must admit the thought crossed my mind ‘even Sean must admit this tie is over!’ But then at 5-2 it just opens the door for Roma to do what they did to that little club from Spain that Suarez plays for.
Difference between Roma needing to score 6, to them now needing 3.
Strange to be leaving the ground with a sense of disappointment. Lovren is terrible, but could have been different if Gini had scored his sitter at the end. Not seen the penalty on TV yet.

25th April 2018 at 7:27 am #20926This tie is very far from over. With all the attack & genius of Messi & Suarez they couldn’t maintain a 3 goal advantage in Rome. If they only got 1 back I think we’d be safe but 2 away goals makes this a very tight encounter in Rome. I’m far from thinking we even have 1 foot in the final, it’s going to be a tough night there & with the never ending injury crisis we have top 4 is still a long way from guaranteed so we can’t really rest our top players if we want to secure that.

25th April 2018 at 8:11 am #20927Agree with that oz.
Tough game but great position to be in.
Injuries coming thick and fast
Ha ha Beni even at 5 up I was saying to my cousin we can’t concede
I’m more pissed off with Winji miss them lovren. It was a sitter.
The game changed when winji came on. He was excellent
Roma got better when perotti came on and our midfield tired. They went to back 4 and pushed up. Really can’t see Roma playing a high line or back 3 next week. It be crazy

25th April 2018 at 8:27 am #20928I wouldn’t say the door is open for Roma perhaps just very slightly ajar but this Liverpool team offensively will be too quick and too good for Roma on the counter imo and Kiev now beckons.
However football aside my thoughts and prayers go out to the Liverpool fan who was so brutally attacked by a group of Roma’s fans outside Anfield last night and lies critically ill in the neurological unit of a Liverpool Hospital nobody should go to a game of football and end up like this poor lad and I fear for Liverpool fans in Rome next week I hope I’m wrong and I hope they all come home safely.

25th April 2018 at 8:54 am #20929Well, it’s an odd feeling walking out of a Champions League semi-final, having won 5-2 with some breathtaking football, and still feeling somewhat deflated!
For the middle hour of that game, we were just simply sensational…as good as I have ever seen a Liverpool side play…and I’ve been watching them live for nearly 50 years now. Roma are no mugs and yet for that middle hour we absolutely annihalated them. Of course we should and could have put the game out of sight, and those two late goals just leaves the tie still alive…just.
Words fail me about Salah and Firmino. There is a justified and valid excuse for saying Mo is currently the best player in the world, and it’s not just his goals. His control, his touch, his vision, his speed and even his strength are just phenomenal, and for me, Firmino isn’t that far behind. They are just a joy to watch.
And a big shout out also to our midfield where Milner, Hendo and Gini bossed the game.
Just wish we’d kept it tighter for the last 10 minutes. Oh well, this is why I just love the game of football!

25th April 2018 at 9:02 am #20930And as for Ox…I feel so sorry for the lad if the injury is as serious as it looked. Not that I’m particularly concerned about the World Cup, I guess he is, and I really feel for the lad. I would imagine that is the last we will see of him till next season, so best wishes for a speedy recovery.

25th April 2018 at 9:16 am #20932The Albert pub where the trouble was last night is literally yards from the entrance to the Kop, and we walked past the pub when it was all cordoned off with ambulances and police there about 7.25pm last night. We wondered what had gone on, and must have only missed the trouble by a few minutes. I heard that a large group of youngish, all dressed the same Roma fans charged out of a side street and started randomly attacking Liverpool fans making their way in to the ground. This wasn’t hooligan on hooligan, but a random attack by tooled up thugs. I hope the 53 year old from Ireland pulls through, and my thoughts are with him and his family. I’m now glad I haven’t qualified for a ticket for the away leg!

25th April 2018 at 9:18 am #20933Chelsea man – we’re not there yet! But if I was pushed I would prefer Bayern. Madrid, while not the force they were, still know how to win finals and in Ronaldo have a player who can win the game by himself.

25th April 2018 at 9:39 am #20934AnonymousI won’t be as cautious. I do feel that we have one foot in the door. Yes we let in 2 and that gives Roma a chance but a small one. How many times has a 3 goal deficit been overturned in the KO’s of the CL? Is it 3 times? ya, one of those times is Roma in the last round, so what? i’m not saying it won’t happen but it seems that people are looking at this as us only having a slight advantage.
We’ve got a huge advantage going into this match. It could have been game over already but it isn’t, that said, I’d say that Roma have only a 10% or so chance of progressing. I’ve only been so generous because they are incredible at home.
We all said “if it were any other team, I’d be more confident”. Well now it’s another team.
The time will come when we have fully learned to trust this team, it’s already happening this season. The last tie against city should have taught us a lot more about Klopp’s Liverpool in Europe but it seems that nothing short of winning the tournament will make people believe.
Well, screw that, I’m believing.

25th April 2018 at 9:45 am #20935The amount of effort put in, we’re just taking our eye off the circuit mentally, and it’s slightly draining us physically.
I was just thinking back to how important Lucas was to come on and ensure, the last 10 or 20 minutes was seen out without any late goals conceded.
Not that I want to brush off Roma’s 2 late goals, but they scored them pretty late on and one was a pen. Overall, we had the most shots on target and we really should have registered 6 or 7 on the board.
Stats show against this particular CL campaign that we’re good for an away goal. It’s going to be a task for them even on their own patch to score 3 goals and at the same time, keep a clean sheet.
Should we score 1, and that changes the complexion. Realistically to keep my feet on the ground and not jinx things, I’d say Roma do have a chance, whilst for us, it’s not 3-2 that we’re taking into the return leg, it’s 5-2.
I honestly can’t see us screw this one up, bare in mind too that those 2 goals were conceded once Salah was taken off.

25th April 2018 at 9:46 am #20936Pool are in the final, anybody else saying otherwise is just playing at being a “jolly good chap”. End of story.
As for the final, I reckon Pool would prefer Real to be honest. Apart from Goldie pointing out Real are rubbish and has-beans (that is a bit of a joke 🙂 ), Pool’s attack would tear Real’s defense a new one without breaking sweat, that gimp Marcelo & Co. wouldn’t know what hit them and I don’t think “Headbutter” has the smarts to come up with a plan other than give the ball to Ronny II and see what he can do (and then put on Bale with 20 minutes to go).
Ze Jarmin’s, on the other hand, have a wily old fox in charge, and are considerably more organized.

25th April 2018 at 9:48 am #20937Mak, it seems to me that the majority of opposition fans believe Liverpool are in the Final and it’s primarily Liverpool fans who are being a tad cautious understandably perhaps not wanting to tempt fate.
Personally I think Liverpool’s name is on the trophy and have thought that for a while. Enjoy it all mate. Cheers 999

25th April 2018 at 9:50 am #20939Mak,
you’re truly right re your last.
Unfortunately pal, that comes with the territory, and we just have to deal with it. There’s always that sceptic out there, and there was a lot of jealousy splashed on the BBC message boards that I came across.
How those messages are allowed on is beyond me, they’re not even properly moderated, so it seems. It used to be Man U and Everton, but it seems there’s now a fair few.
We do have our likers though. Next Wednesday will be special, I believe 🙂
