It’s a funny old game 442 and yiur club has let a fair few go that went on to be real stars
Hindsight and all that
Though I’ve just been reminded of our own long list that’s worse in a way as they went directly to rivals
Ashley Cole
RVP
Nasri

18th August 2020 at 10:37 am #154490Surreyblue, not following what you mean. If it wasn’t Pep’s tactics, what else is the cause in your opinion? That the players just aren’t good enough or didn’t play well enough on the day? Surely you’re not talking about a conspiracy here?

18th August 2020 at 12:21 pm #154545Surrey Blue, “but maybe there is something in the assertion that other factors might have had a hand in City losing the game.” You’ll need to explain that one mate cos you’ve lost me.?

18th August 2020 at 12:29 pm #154548Re Lukaku, when he left Chelsea that was a Jose mistake made worse by the fact that reliable sources such as Matt Law of the Telegraph who is close to all things Chelsea claimed the Club wanted to put in a buy back clause prior to his sale to Everton but Jose told them not to as allegedly he wouldn’t have him back.

18th August 2020 at 12:55 pm #154558Mav, whatever happens at Barca short term they still are in a big mess because Bartomeu won’t step down and he can’t stand in the next Presedential Election now bought forward to March 2021 and wouldn’t get reelected even if he could but if Barca appoint Koeman as now looks likely the next President might not want Koeman come next April and may bring in Xavi or even Pep if he’s hasn’t signed up long term to City?

18th August 2020 at 1:29 pm #154568AnonymousStevo… yeah. 20/20 hindsight… It’s great, but anyone and their dog could see he was better than what we had on our books and was outscoring our players. Jose didnt like him and that carried on up at old Trafford by the loks of it. Either way, I hope he has a great career as he’s a top player and always has been and given his comments regarding United, seems like a good bloke too. Imagine him up top with Fernandes behind. Either way, United have Rashford, who I rate but would like to see stick more chances away… Martial who on his day is awesome and that young chap Greenwood making headlines. Think they’ll be a different proposition next season and will get back into the top four. Then there is the enigma of Pogba. If he turns up United become an entirely different beast.
As for Chelsea, Just want to see a striker and left back come in. Havertz would be a luxury signing probably signalling the departure of either Kante or Kovacic or the borg Jorginho given we have a wee Scotsman coming through the ranks.

18th August 2020 at 4:39 pm #154710I have my view on the City loss, for me it was the wrong team selection, HOWEVER, we have a good enough squad so no matter who he picks should have done the job….they did not…it is down to the players on the pitch…they were not good enough on the night…..simple

18th August 2020 at 4:54 pm #154724Thing is though Brian, players like clear, simple instructions they are well drilled at. Does Pep sometimes over complicate things? He’s obviously a different manager, but Benitez used to make some pretty odd team selections at times and seemed to make random changes and just expected the players to deliver because they were seen as employees of the club, expected to always deliver. But no one likes change, and whilst it may seem to work in theory that players will immediately adapt, in practice, they don’t. I think managers sometimes see their players as automatons that can be quickly reprogrammed to suit different situations.

18th August 2020 at 8:57 pm #154890Mikus, like I have said, I do think he picked the wrong 11 to start. If he started the two Silva’s and say Foden the game plan would have changed. I do not think the plan he put in was flawed that much, but the right players on the pitch would have executed it better. In saying that, I think he over rated Lyon and they capitalised on the back three….three times…game over. Despite beong a free scoreing team we do not do it when it matters most this season. Hope it comes right next season

18th August 2020 at 10:01 pm #154925No mistakes tonight from PSG they were just too strong for Leipzig. Nagelsmann was wearing that suit for a bet surely. 🙂

19th August 2020 at 10:58 am #155477Re City v Lyon, what I’m trying to say is that City, having had its usual high level of possession (and just about every other metric – number of shots, etc), still didn’t convert enough chances (was Sterling’s miss a tactical issue?) and made stupid defensive mistakes (was Ederson’s cock up a tactical error?). I’d therefore respectfully suggest that that the loss wasn’t primarily down to tactics. The various teams that Guardiola has been sending out have been missing chances and also playing (relatively) poorly in defense in a number of games all season. I don’t understand why that’s primarily down to tactics, who played, who didn’t, etc – that’s all I’m trying to say. City probably had more than enough to take that match whatever the shape of the team. It didn’t because stuff happens – all opponents can make and take chances to win, and Lyon did. No conspiracy!

19th August 2020 at 11:20 am #155494Anybody think Lyon can beat Bayern? Hope Bayern win. A Bayern v PSG final would be worth getting up at 5am for.

19th August 2020 at 1:39 pm #155572There’s some truth in what you say Surrey Blue but Pep mucked up tactically and team selection wise too he was far to conservative against a team that finished 7th in the French League.
It might have been a blessing in disguise though with Bayern waiting in the Semi Finals unfortunately we’ll never know now.

19th August 2020 at 1:42 pm #155577Ronald Koeman appointed as Barca’s Head Coach. He’s a Barca man but he faces a big task I wish him the very best of luck I think he might need it.

19th August 2020 at 2:47 pm #1556233×9 – of course there are elements of tactics/team selection involved in a poor result but, despite the perceived failings of Pep, I still contend that City had enough on the pitch to beat Lyon but was beaten by the footballing Gods.
Re the semi, we’re talking City now, and I would not have been at all surprised to see City win whatever the intensity of heat in hot favourite Bayern. Pointless speculation though so please don’t tell me how wrong I am!_____________________________

19th August 2020 at 3:01 pm #155634Surrey Blue, yep even with the team and tactics Pep selected City should have had enough on the pitch to beat Lyon.
I thought City had a real chance of winning the CL this season but it was not to be.
PSG v Bayern would make a great Final. I can’t see Bayern falling to Lyon so hopefully that’s the Final we will get.
If we do I can’t see a nil nil extra time and penalties.?

19th August 2020 at 3:07 pm #155639I think Pepe’s thought process had one eye on the next round (one could argue a little disrespectful to Lion perhaps?) hence leaving out some players you would expect to be picked but we all also saw Money Cheaty miss a hatful of chances on the night. As Puppy says above, the team picked should have been good enough but the footballing gods (and Sterling 🙂 ) had other ideas.

19th August 2020 at 4:49 pm #155714I did not think City would win it this year and at the beginning of the competition I stated that. Those that watch City know we have watched games when they dominate but still have something missing for a game at this level and I thought Semi’s would have been as far as they would go.The missing piece was KDB, not KDB himself but the team who put too much on him to control the game, in any case he would never control the game from the position he was playing in the first half, I have also stated, as much blame is put on the CB the keeper has contributed to at least 3/4 losses
I do expect a big improvement next season and think we will get it across all competitions, still not winning them all. that would be unrealistic but nevertheless better than this last season. However, I am not downbeat either because I watched some breath taking football and I am sure that will continue_____________________________

19th August 2020 at 6:20 pm #155782Brian – I also didn’t expect City to win this season, and I suspect that the Club is still quite a distance from it. It’s just a few years into being a potential contender and getting the right parts in place remains a work in process.
