17th August 2020 at 8:04 am #153465Commiserstion to the Ed and Mav etc.
Good thing if there was a fraca in the dressing room it shows the players care.
United need a Kane like striker they create so many chances that they fail to put away.
They should have come out of the Sevilla game comfortable winners but if you don’t take your chances there’s always a danger that what happened will happen.
Shame because a United v Inter Final would have been interesting.
I hear what the Ed says about question marks still remaining against Ole even though the team have improved but realistically that improvement is primarily down to the signing of Fernandes which sent them on their good run.
Ole will be given this season at least and will try and spend big this Summer and he will be judged on where United are going forwards. He needs a good season.

17th August 2020 at 8:16 am #153475Completely agree Nine. He deserves this season, without doubt. I really like Ole and I think he’s done a lot of good at the club. I just think he’s not tactically strong enough for a team with Utd’s ambition.

17th August 2020 at 8:17 am #153477Stevo , when Sancho comes then we can discuss lotto numbers ?
Utd need a few players. The squad doesnโt have enough depth. A centre back, a left bsck, Sancho and maybe a centre forward
Martial looks the player we all thought he could be. Last night the keeper was unreal
The defending for both goals was shocking

17th August 2020 at 9:46 am #153538Shows what a team can do that defend as a team and really put their body on the line
They wanted it more
Really soft second goal
Sevs first goal was class
But like an Arsenal team of old so n many shots but not going in
Weโve had far to many games like this especially in Europe
So I know how you united lads feelOle is ok but you need to be stronger making changes
Players need more than 3 mins thatโs what you do to time waste when winning the game_____________________________

17th August 2020 at 10:37 am #153571I see what is being said about Utd and City after recent events, with more dirt being thrown at City (obviously!). However, after all is said and done, we’re looking at Cup ties and stuff happens in them because – again obviously – each side has a reasonable probability of winning so what’s the point of ifs, buts and maybes?. ‘Twas ever thus and a good thing too.

17th August 2020 at 11:18 am #153599Surrey Blue , I don’t think anyone has been too harsh on City on here or indeed on United.
Both City and United should have beaten their respective opponents both games swung on narrow margins and there was a general view that Pep got his tactics and team selection wrong which is a view offered by the City posters on here too.
Unfortunately all top Clubs get criticised when things go wrong never been any different mate.

17th August 2020 at 11:39 am #153614It’s not Adlab. Barcelona had 24 in 14/15. Also worth pointing out Adlab that City weren’t far behind on 11 penalties to Utd’s 14 in the PL and that City have had 4 more penalties in the league than Utd over the last 5 years ?

17th August 2020 at 11:47 am #1536213×9 – I was mentioning in more general terms about the criticism of City in particular, not on here. Yes City probably did get it wrong and were favourites against Lyon, but it remains the case that upsets are what Cup ties are about and thatโs just the way it is. Iโve been of the view that it will take quite a while for City to get into real contention for the European Cup and clearly there is more time needed – maybe United will get there before its near neighbours!

17th August 2020 at 11:58 am #153629Surrey blue, i said to Brian the other day that pep would be slaughtered for this.
Itโs not good enough in Europe for ciry after spending near enough to 800m. City are more then prepared and capable of winning the cl. They are an excellent side.
First time Iโve really seen pep been questioned over the years. Domestically he has done it all.An unbelievable record but in Europe and managing the best teams, with the best players and biggest budgets, his record is terrible in recent years.

17th August 2020 at 12:22 pm #153647Itโs interesting to ask *why* Pep overthinks these games. He clearly fears something. What is it? Does he not trust his players? Or is it simply fear of being too bold? I think in the domestic league environment he knows if he loses a game he has ample games to turn it around. So heโs more relaxed and plays his usual swashbuckling game. But he doesnโt in the CL, particularly in knockout games, particularly when the knockout games go down to one leg.
Indeed I think the knockout games going down to one leg was the worst possible mentality for Pep as he knew he didnโt have the luxury of another game if the first one went wrong. So he overcompensated even more than usual.

17th August 2020 at 12:56 pm #153670Also as Threeps says, I donโt think it helps that Pep canโt do plan B or C very well, just plan A.

17th August 2020 at 1:10 pm #153680Surrey Blue, tbh I think these one off games give the lesser teams more of a chance of pulling off an upset which is what we’ve seen over the last two nights.
The CL is not an easy competition to win and it took Chelsea 8 years when they were pretty much at the top of their game.
My concern for City is that football is cyclical and it feels like City might be coming to an end of this particular cycle certainly as far as Europe is concerned. Depends imo on Pep commiting himself to the Club and what they can do in the transfer market.
I also think FFP has taken its toll of City and perhaps understandably they’ve seriously cut back on transfer spending over the last two seasons and I still think they will be careful with FFP going forwards.

17th August 2020 at 3:00 pm #153755Aw far as ffp goes the same goes for Barca and RM but they always seem to manage to spend huge amounts with no worries

17th August 2020 at 3:08 pm #153762Mikus..I do think Pep did “over think” that game and I also think he does not trust some of his players todo as he ask them to do, now this also maybe a question of they are not capable of playingthis way but this is where the over thinking starts. so, i would agree with your view for most part. I do not think one leg game is an issue for him though

17th August 2020 at 3:12 pm #153764Nine, well i certainly hope you are wrong. I do not see this as a backward step at City. How long is a “cycle” anyway. City have completed the first 10yr project, which many scoffed at from the start, we now go into phase 2 and whatever that will bring. As long as the structure is there I believe they will continue to be successful

17th August 2020 at 5:09 pm #153854Surrey Blue, firstly commiserations , when I saw the City lineup it straightaway reminded me of his selection in the first leg of last years CL quarter finals. He almost tried to match Spurs up rather than playing to City’s strengths ,if he had used his regular X1 there is no way would we have pinched a 1-0 .
You will strengthen this Summer for sure and City and Liverpool will be major threats next season’s CL._____________________________
