I think it’s a UEFA rule lads, where loanees can play against their parent club. Patrick Roberts was on loan from us to Celtic a few years back and he played against us, in the group stages, at the Etihad and scored in a 1-1 draw.

16th August 2020 at 12:04 am #151999Its not a uefa rule per se, more or a Premier League rule. In Serie A there are far more loanees spread amongst the teams so having the Premier League rule would cause many problems.
Im sure Chelsea fans can remember a few years ago when they faced Atletico Madrid with Courtois in goal.

16th August 2020 at 12:22 am #152013Yeah, I think that’s right 3ps, it is a PL rule. Same thing, just the other way round (if that makes sense???).

16th August 2020 at 12:35 am #152025I sat through that whole second half as it unfolded expecting the introduction of a proven game changer in Phil Foden and it never happened. Pep changed little. Surprised as I thought he would have the answers especially with the vast array of talent he has at his disposal. Aguero not being available stands out though. Commiserations to the City lads on here. I thought this might be the year.

16th August 2020 at 6:39 am #152279AnonymousOnce again the plight of poor defenses in the top teams of Europe has come to light, they spend too much on midfielders and forwards cause they the attraction but you need top quality defenders as City, Barcelona, Chelsea, United, Spurs, Arsenal and many other top clubs have found out to their cost.

16th August 2020 at 8:54 am #152372Mikius, Barcalona have made so many bad signings recently
Were was Griezmann ever going to fit in with Saurez and Messi there? He can only play through the middle.
Frankie de jong is being played out of position.
Dembele is injuried far to much.
Couthino aswell . Just ridiculous fees played for players who donβt fit into their system.
Itβs gone to shite since they never probarly replaced Neymar.
Club is in bits.

16th August 2020 at 8:59 am #152377Ye lads I really thought city could go all the way this season.
Unfortunately itβs going to be a tough few days as the media are going to really rip into pep and city
That miss from sterling … it goes in and itβs a different game

16th August 2020 at 9:35 am #152402AnonymousCity were by far the better side even though they didn’t play great. Lyons 2nd goal was a disgrace clear foul. Sterling will always regret missing one of the easiest chances in football history. So often there’s no justice in football.

16th August 2020 at 10:26 am #152439For me, it was a dissapointing performance, possesion means nothing if you cannot finish it off The turning point though was Sterlings miss, City fans have seen this happen on a number of occasions so it was no surprise when he missed but still a shock for the course of the game. I have also stated that Ederson need a serious challenger, he is too comfortable and mistakes have cost us this season plus sending off I cannot understand why Bernabia and Foden were not starters. I think Pep got this game wrong from a team selection point of view. Previously I stated we needed 2/3/ players now I believe we need 3/4 and I would let at least 4/5 go from current squad, they have had there chance, others are waiting. The seasons over, lets dust ourselves down and start all over again, as the song goes plus some fresh faces. well done Lyon

16th August 2020 at 10:28 am #152440Moos..it was hardly second string cannot use that as an excuse but Bernando and Foden would have made a difference for energy levels

16th August 2020 at 10:31 am #152445Mav and Moos – yeah, definitely Pep at fault. I covered off what was wrong with team selection in my post last night. Three CBs, one of which wants to go back to Spain, no creativity in CMF, wrong choice of FBs (especially Cancelo on the left), KdB wasted out wide on right in 1st half………………ah well, next year will be our year ?

16th August 2020 at 10:36 am #152452Sean..you are right..the media will be in there elements, none of them good enough to write a decent article. I accept a loss because we have not been good enough to win…that’s it…no histrionic headlines, I am sure City will re group and be back next season for another go…at least we are trying but I would like for some sponsor to by our forward players some decent boots !! They will live on Pep to Barcelona or out for the next few months now…easy way to make a living

16th August 2020 at 11:28 am #152490City should not be losing to the likes of Lyon they are a much better team than them and should have made the Semi Finals at least.
Pep got his tactics and team selection totally wrong last night and players who were on the bench should have either started or come on but even given all that football is a game of fine margins the Sterling miss, the engagement of legs that led up to the goal that on another day could have been a free kick to City and an error from Ederson.
Aguero was also a big miss last night and it’s a shame that he got injured when he did.
I feel most sorry for David Silva that was not the game where the little magician should have ended his time at City.
It might be for the best though Bayern who would have been delighted to see City go out look unstoppable although of course you just never know in football.
