“Soft as f*** penalty, yeah maybe by the rules a pen but I always look at a penalty & think how Iβd feel if the same thing happened against us & being brutally honest Iβd be filthy such a soft penalty got given, especially in a massive final.”
I’ve got to say that I agree with Oz above but these are now seemingly the rules set by faceless individuals in both UEFA and FIFA and Referees have to follow their edicts.
Penalties should only be awarded for deliberate handballs imo and that was not a deliberate handball.
It changed the whole momentum of the match before it even got started and Liverpool with the confidence they have in their defence were happy to stick with the one nil and hit Spurs on the break.
That with the heat contributed to a thoroughly awful Final which was so sad given the excitement of the Semi Finals and the expectations for this Final.
I dread to think of the implications next season of these new penalty rules and what they might do to games and results.

2nd June 2019 at 11:24 am #42073Hahaha Pagan.
I didn’t realise incidentally, the Joshua fight was on late last night and sadly he lost.
BT Sport have more Boxing coming our way, so looking forward to that.
We’ve got the Cricket World Cup soon, and the Wimbledon.
Other than that….. π

2nd June 2019 at 11:29 am #42075Liverpool won by 2 goals. Allison made a couple of crucial saves for us in the 2nd half.
I have to take my hat off to Henderson as he was Reader of Tottenham’s attack/s.
The early goal completely out of the blue turned it into a chess game and the tempo just dropped dramatically. Not good entertainment value.
I can’t say based on our experience last season against Madrid, I can give out much sympathy, so I’ll grab with both hands what I’m given and we finally end our trophy drought with the BIG EARS π YESS!!!

2nd June 2019 at 11:51 am #42079On the subject of ‘snoozefest’ type of Cup Finals, I do recall FA Cup Final 1996.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United were evenly matched as Liverpool went on a surge, second half of the season and United were battling with Newcastle for the then ‘Carling Premiership’.
As far as the first half went, I remember an early effort from Beckham forcing Jamo to make a save and a couple of threats from Collymore, and an near end of first of chance falling to Redknapp from a corner blazing high over the Crossbar.
It was the Second Half that went diminished. Remember 1996 as one of my fave years when there was just a great vibe in our country, plus the music, and Euro 96; just everything all coming together.
I presumed for extra time, then all of a sudden from a Corner: CANTONA! And that was it; just SHOCKWAVES. There was no way back – was totally heartbroken. I guess from then on when we squandered winning the title in 96/97, the season after, the rest of the decade went downhill for us.
It makes me realise when reflecting like this that any trophy won is well worth grabbing hold of with both hands.

2nd June 2019 at 12:57 pm #42081Special mention to Klopp. Up until recent years I was starting to have a few doubts. But he has developed *massively* as a manager this season. From our game management, tactics and approach, weβre a much more rounded side. And weβre no longer just about the press. Heβs learned a lot in a more physical league and identified exactly who who he needed to bring in. And when a change is needed, he doesnβt hang around anymore – he now makes quick effective substitutions that have an immediate impact. Think heβs really gone up several notches. The best adapt. The best find a way.

2nd June 2019 at 1:08 pm #42082So happy we won
Just relief for Klopp as he is a brilliant manager and he managed that final very well
He had a plan b and c. Terrible game but finals are just about winning
Harsh pen and so tough to concede that early

2nd June 2019 at 1:14 pm #42084Yeah 9 I think your right mate, that early pen destroyed the game as a spectacle, as you say we are now confident enough in our D to hit on the break, knowing if we do concede we can up the gears & attack when required.
As Mikus said though that’s a credit in a way to Klopp, we were once all out attack (which was great to watch I might add) but we are a hell of a lot more balanced now. I suppose we done what we had to to get the trophy & whilst it wasn’t pretty it was bloody effective & at the end of the day it’s all about the trophy’s you win, not necessarily how you play (as much as I’d love to see us going at everyone like we did last season). I still think we have that attack in us but only where required ie v Barca.
Anyhow here’s to Smiffy & Warner leading the way in bringing the world cup of cricket back to Oz. Who knows with a bit of sandpaper anythings possible :>))_____________________________

2nd June 2019 at 1:22 pm #42085Just finally great respect to Spurs, what an unbelievable effort to get all the way to a final with such a thin squad, blows my mind thinking of the money other clubs have spent (LFC included) and how close they came to winning the title. Can’t say I’m upset they didn’t do it but respect what they’ve done this season. Hopefully they’ll spend a bit of money & will do a Liverpool & back up a 2nd place with the title (provided we don’t get there again) next time around.

2nd June 2019 at 1:23 pm #42086Sean, weβve got that aura now of a great side. It reminds me of a team like Bayern at their best under Heynckes – weβre obviously not as swashbuckling as weβve been – but weβre just so effective – we have a an extremely solid base and we have a lot of variety in the kinds of goals we can score – particularly with the two full backs we have. We never look under pressure.
The Barca game was no doubt the best game this season for us – but my favourite performance was our 3-1 away win at Bayern – it was the performance of champions. Just so effective, cold and ruthless. Scary part, I think we can get quite a lot better.

2nd June 2019 at 2:21 pm #42089Mikus the panic at the back is well gone. At 1-0 you are confident we wonβt concede
The amount of players Klopp has improved. He is now a Liverpool legend and so deserved

2nd June 2019 at 2:35 pm #420902 Trophies under the ownership of Fenway with their nearly decade in time of involvement.
Weird that our first trophy since 2006 is the so-called Mickey Mouse League Cup, and the one after a 6-7 year wait is the Biggest of them all.
Would love our next one now to be the League and an FA Cup too π

2nd June 2019 at 3:20 pm #42096Bricklayers, commiserations to you and Chuckster on here and of course Spurs.
Something that struck a chord with me last night on BT Sport in Glen Hoddle mentioning that he was happy with Liverpool winning, just not against Tottenham which was Heart-breaking.
I’ve mentioned this before; this particular pairing with ultimately end with one team having to deal with a Heartbreak. This is purely because of not winning trophies for a long time.
If Liverpool let’s say already had 1-to-2 trophies, then losing wouldn’t have bothered me a great deal, as with Spurs.
Man City as far as the Domestic went, did a clean sweep on everyone. As much credit given to them, the rest of us going forward can only learn and try and better ourselves.
