Lucky’s right though had we had a goal scoring striker we would have considerably more points this season but of course you can’t extrapolate the games under Tuchel and say that’s where we would have been over a whole season Lucky was merely trying to demonstrate that Chelsea are on an upward curve have just won the CL and adding two or three quality players to the current squad is likely to turn them into the PL title challengers next season.
Neither Lucky I Pagan or anyone else on here with Chelsea connections is saying Chelsea will win the title next season we’re just saying if the above happens we expect Chelsea to be challenging.
Nil the Chelsea squad is recognised as at least the second best in the PL if we add to that in the right positions it will only be stronger I wouldn’t even discount Chelsea signing another defensive minded midfielder to cover for the potential loss of Kante during the season.
Personally I think the above is currently indisputable but this is football and there are no guarantees Liverpool ran away with the title the season before last yet this season struggled to make the top 4 and City were odds on favourites to win the CL and look what happened there.
Having already a very strong squad, a top Manager and an owner who is prepared to spend big again this Summer coming from where they are suggests #thefutureisbrighthefutureisblue !😊

2nd June 2021 at 12:39 pm #179961……however Khaldoon Al Mubarak has only yesterday talked about replacing Aguero with a top striker and there are rumours of Grealish too and as a Club they’re hurting having not won the CL again so there’s every chance they’ll go out and buy really big and there’s talk of two or three signings which makes it an even bigger challenge for anyone to catch them.

2nd June 2021 at 12:42 pm #179962Was thinking this myself Ed recently. No way Roman would have kept Ole on for so long. He would be long gone by now. But the difference is Roman is happy to appoint the best manager available regardless of their particular football philosophy, whereas Man Utd want someone to develop the youngsters whilst ideally also expressing themselves. And the problem with that is that you somewhat back yourself into a corner and limit your options. Yes they appointed Jose, but I think that was a rush of blood to the head moment of panic to try and resurrect the team back to the top. Abramovich may be criticised at times, but his decision making and the timing of it is pretty much bang on every time. For example, when Lampard was appointed, it was obvious to me that he was just being used by the club in the short term to bed in some of the youngsters. Once that was done, he was always going to be discarded for a more experienced option once one became available. Abramovich knows what he wants and when a decision needs to be made there’s no deliberating over it or ‘seeing what happens’. He’s no nonsense and just takes the ruthless decisions when necessary and as you say, his record speaks for itself.

2nd June 2021 at 12:50 pm #179964Mikus,the transfer ban and bringing through the youngsters were obviously key in the Lampard/Morris appointments personally I don’t think the plan was to just let them get the youngsters in and then drop them the plan imo was to give Lampard his head and see if he could pull it off sadly things started to go wrong and the rest is history.

2nd June 2021 at 12:59 pm #179965But Lampard was very early into his management career, it was a huge step up. He fitted the criteria at that time – a former Chelsea player who knew the club well. I think it would have been extremely idealistic to expect it to work in the longer term, and either way, that’s the main point, Abramovich didn’t ‘wait and see’ for very long. He knew pretty quickly it wasn’t working and made the decision swiftly. Had that been Man Utd, Lampard would probably still be there.

2nd June 2021 at 1:00 pm #179966Tbh Mikus, never mind Ole, I think he’d have got rid of Klopp this season too. There’s no way he’d have survived 6 consecutive home defeats at Chelsea, rightly or wrongly.

2nd June 2021 at 1:03 pm #179967Possibly Ed, but the difference at Liverpool is that the owners are somewhat using Klopp to cover over the lack of investment. Different situation at Chelsea.

2nd June 2021 at 1:17 pm #179969Ed, We all in agreement here, with the squad we have we should be challenging next year. For me that means circa 90 points after 38 games. 80 or less would certainly represent failure next season for any manager given the squad chelsea have assembled plus the backing tuchel is sure to get this summer.

2nd June 2021 at 1:39 pm #179972The confidence is good to see and deserving too. Without the slightest intent of putting any dampener on this what so ever, what I made a point of in my last post was that everything was done to the optimum based on tactics, but most importantly having the availability and the right players to implement your style of play and be able to handle the opposition.
Depth needs to be considered. And using this Huge Triumph to build from going into next season and trying to continue the momentum. Not easy and no team really should be discredited as such if they can’t live up to those heights.

2nd June 2021 at 1:45 pm #179973Nil, the CL win was just the beginning imo Nil and all within 5 months of Tuchel’s appointment working with the players he inherited without the opportunity to further strengthen where he thinks needs strengthening in the transfer market.
He will now mould the squad as to how he wants it from a very strong basis.

2nd June 2021 at 2:05 pm #179975Nil, I know we try to convince ourselves we will see a real title fight each season and many a season get let down, but I think city, pool and Chelsea are all primed to give it real go. I ould still have city as favourites because they are the most consistent team at breaking down low block lower table teams, but in pool and Chelsea I think they have some serious competition next year. Well here is hoping anyway 🙂

2nd June 2021 at 2:10 pm #179976No one can predict what could happen next season. There be many surprises and if tuchel starts badly with a few defeats, he will be sacked. Don’t think for one second they will happen but that’s the Chelsea way and it works a treat.
It be very difficult for klopp to get sacked from

2nd June 2021 at 2:54 pm #179977I’m actually a little concerned about Spurs now. I was hoping they’d bring back Poch…
⚪️ #THFC Antonio Conte in advanced talks with Tottenham board about…
– Long term contract.
– Project, salary, new signings.
– Former Juventus Paratici as new director of football.
– Official bid made to Paratici but he’ll decide soon.
– Conte has never been close to join Real.— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 2, 2021

2nd June 2021 at 3:22 pm #179980Nine, plus you Chelsea lads…I think you are reading beyond my meaning, maybe it is myself not articulate enough….look at my post…have always said Chelsea would challenge, as to the “defensive” statement…you do have an excellent defence which you utilise and although you have attacking abilities they did not show enough, to which you agree…all I am saying at this point is you need more or you will have to rely on your defence. We played most of the season without strikers and although we scored more than anybody else we fell short of what we should have scored…but that is hypothetical and as I have said before I am not a believer in such . All City fans that I know can only congratualte Chelsea for there performance, we all await the new season and at thois stage there are no winners in sight

2nd June 2021 at 3:35 pm #179981Nine…the pundits/bookies/media got it wrong. As a City fan I never went along with this “favourites tag” always said in my post City were beatable, however I also feel sure we will win more than we loose, but never unbeatable. Our style works well when everything is working and every player performing but anything less and it breaks down. What other teams do or not do does not have much interest for me but I do know there are some very good teams in the EPL and it is good to see them all, even the lower half ones In this context, I do not see City as favourites next season, or any other team for that matter, ask me in Mid January I may have an idea!!!!!
Take care, enjoy the game_____________________________

I don’t think myself or any of the other Chelsea lads misread what you said Brian but I’m not going to make a big thing about it my relationship with you is much more important than that.
I don’t agree with your suggestion that we have limited attacking abilities that did not show enough imo Chelsea are very strong offensively what we lacked this season is a reliable goal scorer who can take advantage of the very many chances that our attacking abilities created that’s a problem we need to solve to have a real chance of challenging for the PL.
