You know what Mak, you look at Napoli away, you look tonight, and even in some league games, and this team do lack sparks and struggle sometimes to break teams down. Mané is a huge miss in the second half. Would like to see a bit more creativity, dribbling, pace and goals in the summer.

Disappointing thing is we knew that was coming. We knew exactly how they would play and they totally deserved their win

So well organised and defended brilliantly

So difficult to score when they go 1-0 up and such grit and determination from them

Tough game in the 2nd leg and hopefully we perform much better

Atletico were a nightmare draw for Liverpool as they do tend to struggle sometimes against teams who don’t come out and Atletico are do well drilled and there was fantastic support in the Stadium.

Sets the return leg at Anfield up nicely though should be some game.

Mikus, we really do struggle in away games in the CL. Not sure why this is the case and not the case in the PL but we have lost more matches in the CL than we have in the PL, both this season and last… and it’s not even close. you could probably tack on the Pl for 3 seasons versus our last 2 CL runs but ya..,,

We lack intensity. We did against Norwich and we have our wake up call now. We are just taking too many touches on the ball and our crossing until late enough on was just bad. You can’t expect to beat a team who defends like this and not get your crossing right.

I just wanna put this game behind me TBH. It wasn’t worth watching and the unsporting carry on from Atletico makes me look forward to us knocking them out at Anfield.

They several times grappled our players like Ramos (of course without the ending move to try and break someones arm). they got away with it both times. Then they were diving and also feigning injury. I can’t wait for the return leg but I do want to forget this lack of a performance.

As nine says, this was a nightmare tie for us. It’s the worst draw we could have got but it’s over to anfield now. The place is going to be rocking.

Cl for me is a bonus this year. People talking about trebles and all , I just don’t get

Everything was about the league to me and anything else is a massive bonus.

I still make Liverpool clear favourites to go through. They seem to struggle with away games in Europe but at anfield they are a different animal.

Ed, I didn’t see the game as I was watching the Liverpool game but Owen Hargreaves but Owen Hargreaves is extolling the virtues of Sancho claiming it was like watching Neymar in his prime what do you think about that as you watched the game?

Liverpool have got used to winning easily in the PL last night’s game was much more challenging for them with the intensity from Atletico and the home support was great too.

The return leg at Anfield will be very interesting and you would back Liverpool to come through given the atmosphere at Antield but Atletico are no Barcelona defensively and could be dangerous on the break.

Vital that Atletico don’t nick one at Anfield as scoring 3 against that lot won’t be easy.

Too many of our lads last night were well below their best. Trent arguably had hi’s worst game in a red shirt as did Virgil. Gini was anonymous, Hendo well below his recent standards. The front 3 never really got a look in. Only Robbo, Gomez and Alli were at their best. The strange substitutions didn’t help either. I would have given Keita 25 mins in place of Gini to run at their defence and give them something different to think about.

But hey ho, it’s not over and should be a cracking and bouncing atmosphere at Anfield in a couple of weeks. We don’t do it the easy way in the Champions League and it looks like we won’t this season either.

HH – the fact that they all chose the same game to not live up to normal standards isn’t such a bad thing especially as you only lost 1-0. Maybe they’ve got it out their system now. They just seem to struggle away though, didn’t they lose 4 last season in the champions league?

Nobody wins a 2 legged tie in the first leg, but teams can certainly lose it, and LiVARberoOol-pool certainly didn’t lose it last night. All set up nicely for the 2nd league for us neutral’s…

Now go and watch us Spuds lose it in the first leg… struggling to think of an 11 that would have a decent shout. Guessing Maureen is going to go something like 4-5-1, pack the mid-field and generally hope for a huge slice of luck/inspiration/moment of sheer genius!!
