Wenger talking about Barca wanting to join the premiership. Seriously. Not sure where I stand on this. My head says no way not practical and I know it won’t happen. But my heart says bloody he’ll that sounds like a great idea. Barca or playing a team of hackers sent out by Tony Pulis? Tough call that. Lol

8th October 2017 at 11:24 am #5894That’s never gonna happen in a million years…. and even if it did, it wouldn’t be the current Barca team anyway.

9th October 2017 at 1:06 pm #5914It would be great to have the worlds best team in the EPL, the following would increase even more than it already is now, it would be a massive boost for the EPL.

9th October 2017 at 1:31 pm #5917Yeah I’m not too keen on Barca joining the PL. Could you imagine the fuss if they just joined the top league straight away, in turn denying a PL place to a side lower down the pyramid who have worked hard to earn that spot.
Putting all those problems aside, it would be a huge coup for the Premier League as a brand. The incredible growth in TV rights would go to another level entirely, which would be bad news for the rest of Europe. It could become a bit of a bidding war between the leagues due to the value they would bring to whichever league they joined. In fact, I could see the other big leagues coming together in some way to ensure it doesn’t happen.

9th October 2017 at 1:49 pm #5918Ed, there’s more chance of Chelsea doing the Quadruple this season than Barca joining the PL.?
The people on both sides of the divide in this seem commited to wanting negotiations. Up to the politicians to listen to the people now and sit down together.

9th October 2017 at 7:09 pm #5920Haha, you’re probably right 999. Like you, I can’t see it happening at all. Even if Barca were to leave La Liga, which in itself is very unlikely, I would imagine they’re much more likely to join another league closer to home

9th October 2017 at 7:57 pm #5922Ed, just over 2 hours to Perpignan from Barcelona suggests that the French League would be the most relevant League for Barca to join but like you when push comes to shove I can’t see them leaving La Liga tho or La Liga wanting Barca to leave.

9th October 2017 at 9:46 pm #5924If they left is la liga would end up like Scotland is now. At least with them in la liga its a two horse race. That’s why the premiership is the best league in the world.
The only thing that just might swing it is if Barca do leave and have a say in where they play. I very much suspect they would want to play in the league with the most money. And that is unquestionably is the Premier league. And as regards which team you would relegate, that’s easy it would be one of the Welsh sides obviously!

10th October 2017 at 10:24 am #5929The league they will play in will be entirely new, along with City, Utd Chelsea M.Munich. R Madrid Juventis etc etc. I believe it is already in the planning stage, TV will control it not UEFA

27th October 2017 at 8:16 pm #6717I really fear where this might go now. I have so many friends out there in Catalonia.

27th October 2017 at 10:57 pm #6721The EU are backing Spain as well, so not only May. Pity Spain doesn’t organise a properly run referendum.

27th October 2017 at 11:36 pm #6723Ian,
I Just think that Catalonia will eventually get independence. Spain will make it difficult but they must realise that they can’t act like Franco these days. You are right though they should of had a ref. But I suspect governments only have referendums when they think they will win. Expect a load of economic sanctions from Spain on their on their most prosperous region in the meantime obviously supported by the EU.

29th October 2017 at 10:07 pm #6830Blimey in the midst of all this Girona a truly beautiful Catalan city beat Real Madrid 2-1.
Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised Girona is owned by Manchester City. Pep a proud Catalan will be smiling again tonight.?

30th October 2017 at 8:39 am #6833I wish I could remember where but I read an interesting article about this Catalonia mess, from the viewpoint of all the other “regions” across the EU that have been kicking around this independence idea, there was about 17 of them, including but not limited too the Brittany region in France, the Flemish region in and around Belgium, something in Northern Italy, a posse in Austria, and a few more that I can’t remember (the Scots were in there too!).
I really can’t see the EU going along with it, as if one goes, there’s going to be a few more following (also explains why May has to say NO!, considering the Scots angle).

30th October 2017 at 9:25 am #6834Rightly or wrongly I suspect the Spanish state will bring Catalonia into line by economic sanctions and threats. Completely the reverse of what Cameron did to the Scots where he bribed them with even more money and benefits including RN shipyards to stay to the detriment of the rest of the UK. When surveys indicated that if all the UK had a vote on Scottish Independence we would have voted them out. Unlike Spain where I understand the Spanish majority want Catalonia to stay part of Spain.
