Anyone missing watching Liverpool lose matches should tune in to tonight’s game at Villa Park! There will be 3 or 4 players that I have literally never heard of starting. The predicted starting line-up has a total appearance number for the club of 18 matches! The youngest side in Liverpool’s history, and I fear they are going to get mullered. An opportunity, I guess, but I went to the last round when we drew 5-5 with Arsenal, and we were pretty naive and raw that night, and we had Gomez, Lallana, Milner and Origi playing that night. Not tonight…it really could be a humiliation, I’m afraid

17th December 2019 at 6:41 pm #56911Wow! 5 debutants in starting line-up. 2 of the front 3 yet to have their 17th birthdays. Not a single appearance between any of the subs. I fear for them!

17th December 2019 at 8:34 pm #56914Don’t think we’ll be turning this around. Look alright up top at times, less so at the back.

17th December 2019 at 8:36 pm #56915It’s humiliation now.
To be fair, the first 2 goals should have been prevented as they were fairy-dust.
Plus, we didn’t play too bad up the top and Harvey Elliot etc did have their own chances.
Just gotta play the next 45 and basically play for pride and damage limitation.

17th December 2019 at 8:45 pm #56916The Liverpool youngsters did ok first 30 mins and a bit unlucky with the first two Villa goals. However, I really can’t see any benefit in sending them out, to what now looks like a humiliation for them – won’t do them any good whatsoever. Surely the better option would have been to split the squads for these next two games – some experience would have at least given Liverpool a chance tonight and the ‘other’ squad easily good enough to dispose of Monterrey. The experienced players could then have flown out to join the rest in Qatar for the final.

17th December 2019 at 9:22 pm #56918I think Hoever and Elliot are the only 2 out there who I think may have a chance of making it in the Prem

17th December 2019 at 9:45 pm #56920Proud of those kids tonight. All in all, you have to put everything into Context that defines for the Club a unique scenario in being placed in the World Club Tournament.
Maybe, something might have been done in accommodating this fixture, but agree with GjBlues, in maybe leaving a small cluster of the first team squad behind to support these kids. It was a total display in the end of Men V Boys.
At the very least, we fielded an 11, tried to compete and those kids lived the moment and have experience to their name.

17th December 2019 at 9:48 pm #56922Klopp and our first team would have been watching this tonight and deep down would be feeling the disappointment. This could spurn them on Tomorrow to deliver the goods and take us in the Final for Saturday.

17th December 2019 at 10:00 pm #56924Elliot is going to be a very good player. Played some good stuff. Well done to villa
Thought Chirivella was very good but he is never going to make it with us and will be gone soon.

18th December 2019 at 12:05 am #56926Good effort from the Liverpool lads who looked the better team in the early stages but a bit of good fortune together with a bit more know how and strength proved a bit too much in the end even against a scratch Villa team. But they didn’t let anybody down.
Harry Elliot looks a player.

18th December 2019 at 4:44 am #56929The scheduling of two games in consecutive days for the one club in different parts of the world is insane and a disgrace. Who the heck is in charge of that? You must be fuming Nil!! The Carabao Cup could have ended up as part of a major trophy haul.

18th December 2019 at 8:06 am #5693267, it was an impossible task given that the two competitions are organised completely separately to each other and I don’t think you can blame anyone.
Liverpool were offered the chance to play last night’s game on the night of the Semi Finals post Christmas but they turned that down.
As gjblues pointed out Liverpool could have left some senior players behind for last night’s game which would have probably taken them through and still fielded a very strong team v Monterey who Liverpool will almost certainly comfortably sail past tonight and those players could have joined up to be part of the squad for the Final.
Liverpool’s compensation will be that they will almost certsinly be reigning World, European and PL Champions at some point this season.

18th December 2019 at 9:14 am #56934Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I disagree with those saying Liverpool could of split the team. The WCC should be taken seriously and it is a little disrespectful to say Liverpool should easily dispatch Monterrey even with a mismatch of a team. And yes Liverpool did turn down the opportunity of playing the quarter final during the semi final week but all that would do is postpone the problem to later date, at some point there would be a bottleneck of fixtures needing to be played.
I’m not sure there was really any alternative to what actually happened. Personally I’m not too disappointed as the 2 legged semifinal would not of been a welcome distraction as the team chases PL and CL success.

18th December 2019 at 9:30 am #56936Agree threeps. No one is taking Montreal lightly
No matter when the villa game was played, it was always going to be a problem
All our injuries hardly get a mention either from the press
We are without fabhino, Lovren, Matip and Winji
Alison has missed a huge chunk of the season. Shaqiri and Keita to.
An injury to either centre back and we are in trouble mate
