With all the euphoria of the return of the Champions League, it seems we’ve all “missed” the very discreet announcement yesterday of the sale of the next round of TV rights back in Blighty. Rather than the expected continuation of the ridiculous increases, the final “bid” was actually down on previous years, although I should add indications of “overseas” rights are still expected to increase and make up the shortfall… but expectations and realizations to two very different fish…

Are we seeing the slow hiss of escaping TV money?

Personally, I hope so, it’s time the commercial aspect of football got a bit of a kick in the nuts to be honest.

With the package I have here in Finland, there’s pretty much “live” football from all the major European Leagues all weekend from lunch-time to bed-time and multiple games every night from Monday to Friday… it is ridiculous to be honest.

I generally go out my way for Spud games (obviously) but I certainly don’t plan my schedule around even them. If I’m in and the nipper is in bed, then fair enough, but that’s about it.

As I said in my first post, I think the financial aspect of footy needs a kick in the nuts.

Chuky..you are right about the TV nonsense. I never subscribed to commercial TV , from what little I have seen the camera work was poor, the pundits…have heard better from schoolkids and the mathamatical re constructions are nonsense. Trying to make science out of sport. I have seen some games, my son’s TV and others but my choice is radio rather than TV, although I suppose radio can be poor unless you have a good commentator.
