If the news re Kane to City being close to agreement is true I guess reality has bitten as a Club Spurs couldn’t hang on to a player of Kane’s quality whose time is running out to win trophies and who no longer wanted to be at Spurs.
Be interesting to hear Pep’s comments on how his explanation of how City couldn’t afford to buy a top striker once the deal is done.
The suggested fee in the press is ยฃ160m a completely bonkers fee for a player who will turn 28 next week but I guess it reflects the dirth of high quality strikers available o buy.
I though the ยฃ130m Chelsea were allegedly prepared to pay for Haaland was bonkers too but it’s looking a bit of a bargain now taking everything into account.๐
Well I guess the big question now is whose going to finish second this coming season!

23rd July 2021 at 8:12 am #181937Happy belated birthday Brian. 87, wow! Nine, good to hear you’re doing well too. Stay strong!
Too right, Nine, re Kane at ยฃ160mil. Surely that can’t be right. Nobody would pay that much for a player turning 28 in a few days. Reading the story, though, it seems to be a case of someone leaking to the press from his brother’s wedding that Levy has given the green light to letting Kane go if they get a bid of ยฃ160mil.
If it is just a case of Levy saying “Harry, ok you can go if we get ยฃ160mil”, then I’m not sure anything has changed. We always knew he’d be let go for a crazy bid like that. Whether any club is stupid enough to pay a bonkers fee like that is another thing entirely and I think the report is putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5, simply because City are the only club capable of spending that kind of money without even blinking.
As you say, it would be very interesting to see Pep’s reaction after his sob story about not being able to afford a striker. Would hate to think we’d all felt sorry for him for no reason ๐

23rd July 2021 at 8:12 am #181938Only a bargain if you get him 999
Also sounds like city are doing a player swap deal of some sort so maybe not a ยฃ100m + cash dealNancy you should watch imagine if you won and Kane lined up against you be sweet that
If you lose itโs expected so no harm no foul
But you and the spuds like me and my lot give us little hope or enjoyment presently โฆ

23rd July 2021 at 8:15 am #181939AnonymousI doubt very much if Haaland will repay any club he joins for that kind of money. It’s a waste of money and makes you think people have lost their minds to even entertain that figure.

23rd July 2021 at 8:18 am #181940I won’t be watching live, that’s for sure, can’t afford a new television right now (car troubles), but I’ll check the results at 4:45 and depending, I might watch the “re-run”!!!
Anyway, good news for YooUtd and LiVARberoOol fans, MoneyCity have now, finally, after flirting with the top spot for a few seasons now, have reached the summit of the “Teams Banjo Loves To Watch Lose” table… even if I won’t be watching until the 2nd game of the season! ๐
Of course (and apologies to BB, nothing personal), this white-washing sports campaign of bullshit those nasty FFP cheating bastards from UAE still isn’t working!

23rd July 2021 at 8:22 am #181941Ok just re-read that particular report and it’s suggesting there is indeed a deal in place with City so it’s allegedly more than just Levy giving the green light. Still, I’ll believe it when I see it. Nothing more than paper talk at this stage. Would be shocked if anyone did indeed sign him for ยฃ160mil whether that’s a straight cash or a player & cash deal.

23rd July 2021 at 8:38 am #181945Wow, Moos, Haaland would be a “waste of money”? I’ve heard it all now. Ignoring his league goals (as many dismiss the Bundesliga as being a weaker league) he’s scored 20 goals in 16 CL games! The guy is a goalscoring machine who just turned 21. Compared to the Kane fee, it would be daylight robbery to get Haaland for ยฃ130mil. He could give you 10-15 years of elite level goalscoring.

23rd July 2021 at 8:44 am #181947There’s only 1 reason to be wary of Haaland and that’s his scumbag of an agent, Raiola. For that reason alone, I’m content with my own club missing out on him but he’s an unbelievable player who’ll score hatfuls wherever he goes. You can worry about being given the Raiola runaround a few years down the line.

23rd July 2021 at 8:45 am #181948Beat me to it Chucky. Spot on though. Still, it’s ALMOST worth it for the goals he brings. I’d be very tempted regardless, given the chance

23rd July 2021 at 8:50 am #181949No worries… always been quick on the draw!!
The only good thing is when he does move on, whoever is selling will very likely get all their money back and then some.

23rd July 2021 at 8:56 am #181950Worth mentioning that the Kane story is only being reported by the Sun (and referenced by others) with a fair few reputable sources like The Athletic questioning it
โช๏ธ Reports of Daniel Levy's 'U-turn' on Harry Kane to Man City has taken both clubs 'by surprise'

23rd July 2021 at 9:08 am #181951Since when did we let a good rumor go to waste by some accurate reporting? ๐
To paraphrase our favourite puppy (can’t be arsed to go back and copypaste it):
“Sure it’s all speculation and I won’t believe it until I see him holding up the shirt and declaring his love for the club, but where there’s truth there’s always fire and if Harry believes he has a gentlemen’s agreement with Daniel Levy then there is nothing Spurs can do. Why keep an unhappy player and it’s all been leaked to the press and I love John Terry, he’s great!”
(Where is the puppy? Tail still wagging?)

23rd July 2021 at 9:27 am #181952Cheers Ed just hoping I can continue like this. Your explanation sounds a lot more logical, like you I can’t see even City paying that amount of money for Kane although I can see Levy wishing and hoping he’ll get ยฃ160m for him.๐

23rd July 2021 at 9:35 am #181954Stevo, re Haaland “Only a bargain if you get him 999” I’ve said on numerous occasions Stevo I don’t think Haaland to Chelsea will happen.I was just comparing what Chelsea had allegedly offered for Haaland and the suggested fee of ยฃ160m fee for Kane which given their two ages as bonkers as ยฃ130m is does imo make Haaland look a bit of a bargain by comparison.๐
It’s all maddnes though mate!

23rd July 2021 at 10:49 am #181955Just sneaked off to 2024, copypasted this from the Sun…
Harry Kane Announces Return to Tottenham Hotspurs.
“It’s time to return home,” announces Lord Harry Kane, MBE, CBE, MFI, BSC, SSC, “I’ve spent three glorious years at Abu Dhabi City, winning three Premiership titles, three Champions Leagues, three F.A.Cups, three League Cups, and three Abu Dhabi City Sports Day Sack Race titles, winning all that a man can dream off!”ยจ
“But, despite winning all these trophies, it’s left me unfulfilled. Winning these titles was a pleasurable experience undoubtedly, but when you’re playing for a team that can simply buy any player they want, whenever they want, collecting them the same way I collect golf clubs, the joy of rising to a challenge hasn’t been met. I still feel like I have a yearning to achieve something meaningful.”
“I will absolutely miss this,” he said, turning towards the new 350,000 seat Etihad Stadium, located in downtown Abu Dhabi, “and wish everybody at Abu Dhabi City all the luck in the world in finding enough local fans to fill it.”
He continued, “But now my journey in the sun is completed and it’s time to return to North London, to go back to where I was made, to team back up with Poncho and all the other lads, to see if we can finally win something shiny.”
Tottenham Hotspur Chairman, Banjo Chuckers, in attendance, added “Of course, we’re delighted to have one of our own return, and together, I’m sure we can return back to the Premiership on our first attempt, and who knows, perhaps next year challenge for the title. Of course, a lot will depend on the results of whether ‘our lawyers are better than yours, we can cheat all we want!’ is an actual legal defense that stands up in a court of law, and which would allow Abu Dhabi City to continue to play all their home games in the Emirates and remain in the Premiership. Although I do fully expect their claim they should be allowed to play all their away games here too will be rejected.”
When asked for his opinion, Shiek Guardiola said climbing into his gold-plated diamond-encrusted Bugatti La Voiture Noire, “Meh…doesn’t matter, we buy more players…no rules apply to us!”
