I think you have as good a squad as city and likely more active this summer
Haaland just makes it a guarantee bar injuries
And city of course going again could be a softer year not easy to retain a title abs still have cl heart break

19th July 2021 at 12:16 pm #181838Yeah I agree Stevo the squad is strong and if Chelsea make two or three quality signings in this window especially a quality striker then I think we could push them.

19th July 2021 at 12:21 pm #181839Be happy to take Lewandowski Ed he’s a natural goal scorer and is good for two or three seasons yet imo. What you say makes sense.

19th July 2021 at 12:29 pm #181840Definitely Nine. He really does look after himself so I think he’d be the one I’d fear Chelsea getting the most, in terms of the here and now. Best striker on the planet IMO. Would love to see him in the PL.

19th July 2021 at 12:44 pm #181841Obviously things can change, but this was said only back in May. I think Bayern are the kind of club that likes to strengthen from a position of strength. They wouldn’t really want to lose the reliability of such a huge figure in Lewandowski and replace him with a youngster, even if he is a highly rated one, which is what this quote seems to allude to.
Bayern are not going for Erling Haaland this summer.
Oliver Kahn confirms to Bild: βA package that costs over β¬100M is unimaginable for us now. Weβve Lewandowski, he has a 2-years contract here. Just for that, we don't have to think about Haaland todayβ. π΄ #Bayern @imiasanmia

19th July 2021 at 12:59 pm #181842Maybe so Mikus. I just think the very presence of Lewandowski still at Bayern next summer makes a move for Haaland difficult as they can’t both be the main man. Would they risk not being in the running for such a generational talent at such a low price, just to keep an ageing Lewandowski happy? I’m not saying it’ll happen but I think it would make a lot of sense, particularly if they’d got any encouragement that Haaland may want to go there next summer. Lewandowski to Chelsea with Werner going the other way on loan for a year would make a lot of sense.
The only stumbling block is that I don’t think Bayern would pay anything like the kind of wages to Haalanad that a lot of other clubs would. So, it probably won’t happen anyway I don’t think, for that reason.

19th July 2021 at 1:26 pm #181843I don’t want Werner to go anywhere on loan or not as I think he will develop from last season which was a massive move for him new team, new League, different country and a managerial change half way through the season he’s not a number 9 imo and was at his best playing off of Poulsen at Leipzig.
Worryingly for Chelsea I think it may almost be as big a problem trying to get Lewandowski out of Bayern as it would be getting Haaland out of Dortmund.

19th July 2021 at 1:44 pm #181844Sorry Ed, didnt read properly that you said Bayern should move for Haaland *next* summer. However, as Nine says above, I think Lewandowski is almost considered royalty at Bayern and I just couldn’t see them letting him go just to help them land Haaland next year. As you also allude to in your last paragraph, Haaland just doesn’t seem the right kind of player for Bayern in terms of his wages. Bayern are a very traditional club who would rather not get involved in this kind of thing even if it means they miss out on such a talent. And when you look at their record, they rarely get these things wrong.

19th July 2021 at 2:06 pm #181845Yep fair points both. Werner deserves to be given another season to prove his worth, for sure.

19th July 2021 at 2:43 pm #181846“Liverpool could entertain offers for captain Jordan Henderson, according to stunning reports that claim no progress has been made over a new contract for the midfielder.
Henderson, 31, has two years left on his Anfield deal and talks are underway over an extension that could see him end his career with the Merseyside club.
Henderson is attracting interest from some big names across Europe. Talksport 19/07
The above is doing the rounds across most of the media.
I’m not Henderson’s biggest fan and I know he even splits opinion amongst Liverpool fans but I’m not sure this would be in the best interests of both parties and I would be suprised if they don’t reach some sort of sensible agreement to keep Henderson at the Club going forwards.

19th July 2021 at 4:16 pm #181847I think Liverpool see Henderson as to adding some funds for a big splash on somebody and there will be “takers” in the EP:, cannot see him going to Europe

19th July 2021 at 8:54 pm #181849Sean, for the reasons that you stated you would hope it will get sorted.
I can’t see where Henderson might go in respect of the top Clubs in the PL and I doubt he would want to go abroad and I’m not sure how much he would raise anyway if he was sold and how valuable that would really be to Liverpool going forwards.
Only problem I can forsee is it has shades of Wijnaldum about it and FSG had their hands on the tiller on that one.
The sensible conclusion for Liverpool imo is to retain their Captain.

19th July 2021 at 10:49 pm #181850FSG Policy, unfortunately. No point in them offering a bigger contract knowing they’ll get no re-sale value, but rather allow the player to go on a free to avoid ‘compensation’. Henderson I think was allowed to be nurtured in maturity properly in recent years and since JK became our Manager.
I see the prospect of Virgil and/or maybe Mo or Tiago for the Armband.

20th July 2021 at 1:24 am #181852agreed re: Newcastle, that should never have happened, even with Evans out.
As for Spurs, Evans didn’t start and was out and Fofana went off injured after 21 mins. He was replaced by Mendy, who is a defensive mid and was actually released by us in the off-season, that’s how little we thought of him. Again, highlighting my point about a lack of depth. Bale’s pace completely exploited that. Until he came on they were very lucky in getting to a draw and with us needing to win to get the CL spot they brought on Bale to exploit our forward push and inexperienced backline_____________________________

20th July 2021 at 7:47 am #181854Problem Foxy is that Celtic aside which is a bit if a unique situation Rodgers has a bit of a reputation as a bottler and it’s not just from last season.
Personally I think the team Rodgers is building at Leicester looks exciting and they currently look the best of the rest but for Leicester to get into the top 4 it will probably still take one of the usual suspects to slip up and although Leicester have been active in strengthening it’s likely that the likes of City , United , Liverpool and Chelsea will ultimately be just as active or even more active in strengthening and the gap will remain and could even widen.
Rodgers problem is that he will continue to be beaten with not being able to get into the top 4 stick which is a bit unfair given what he started with and his budget v the current top 4.

20th July 2021 at 9:33 am #181855It’s the higher paid players of course the top end of the Tree notice straight away. Never mind the loyalty and the great service given to the club and almost 10 years of it. That you can’t buy in the here and now.
The only possible solution is to keep Jordan on the Liverpool Payroll but with no contract. I have hopes of him going into coaching and learning his trade.

Nil, the above would never happen there’s no way that Henderson would stay at Liverpool without a contract. Currently it isn’t a problem contract wise because Henderson still has 2 years to go on his current contract the only problem might be if he felt a tad let down by the Club if things don’t get sorted out but they might well yet.
