Sean, the Ed is the best person to explain United’s debt but briefly as I understand it it’s not because of overspend in the transfer market it’s down to how the Glazers funded the purchase of United which didn’t fall under FFP.
You do wonder why UEFA didn’t get involved in the Barca situation.
Loss of match day revenues have hit Barca particularly hard given all the revenues they generate from 100,000 fans in the Stadium every other week and tourists being excluded from Stadium tours. It’s a long way back from where Barca are now especially without Messi.

8th August 2021 at 2:54 pm #182416Cheers nine, I just always hear utd are in 400m debt and glaziers are taking money out of the club yet spend big. I know they are following the rules so was just wondering chums.
If rumours are to be true spurs have agreed a deal for 60m for Martinez??
If true thatโs a spend of 120m so surely thatโs the Kane money they are spending?
Going to an interesting week chums

8th August 2021 at 3:03 pm #182419Be suprising if Inter were to sell both of their strikers in Lukaku and Martinez in this window Sean but the Express confirms your post?

8th August 2021 at 6:10 pm #182421AnonymousManchester United’s latest financial report the club’s debt had risen to ยฃ511.2 million pounds. Not too bad.

8th August 2021 at 6:49 pm #182422Yeah Sean, Nine explained it well. There were actually discussions about including debt limitations in FFP rules but it was deemed to not be the main problem facing clubs getting themselves in trouble. A good article about it here:
Nobody would like to see debt restrictions more than Utd fans as it’s the main cause of the recurring protests against the Glazers. Either way FFP pretty much died after the whole case with City and Uefa.

8th August 2021 at 8:00 pm #182427Nine…re Messi…have had a re think about this……Barca cannot afford to be without Messi and someway, always a way for Barca and RM some kind of deal will be done/ maybe even Messi taking a big stake in the club…Just a thought
On Kane…think City will go for Martinez or Haarland (and exclude agent!!)
Just another thought but we will all know soon enough now_____________________________

8th August 2021 at 8:37 pm #182428It all looked very final today with Messi Brian but until he’s signed on the dotted line you never know. I would love Messi to stay at Barca tbh but I’m not holding my breath.
Haaland won’t move this Summer now imo Dortmund don’t need the money having sold Sancho but I suspect City would definitely be in the mix for Haaland next Summer.
City would be my Club of choice if I was Martinez but I don’t think Inter will sell him this Summer on top of Lukaku.
I think it’s Kane or bust for City tbh Brian but time will tell.

8th August 2021 at 9:01 pm #182429I’ll truly be glad when the Messi circus is put to bed. How many years, circa 2007? He never achieved for Argentina in the way Diego Maradona (late) lead his national team.
Sheer greed to make up his stature.

8th August 2021 at 11:01 pm #182438Nine, exactly!
I really am not interested in lauding Messi, so not sure why you’ve brought that up!
The world would be a pretty boring place. Hey-ho.

9th August 2021 at 1:09 am #182441AnonymousI don’t have a lot sympathy for Messi either. He’s going to PSG… he could go and try to win the PL but goes for money, when he’s already loaded.
Anyway hope everyone is well.

9th August 2021 at 8:16 am #182445The Messi saga takes another twist with the Barca lawyers stepping in to try and block PSG signing Messi on the basis of the PSG wage bill being a much greater percentage of their revenue than Barca’s.
If it all goes Pete Tong you would be more than welcome at the Bridge Leo.๐

9th August 2021 at 8:28 am #182446Apparently the spuds were in for him ? Doesnโt sound like levy!!
Shout out to the spuds fans for their welcome support of of saka
Classy especially to an Arsenal playerโฆ.tho yet another loss for us
Pre season or not it hurts ๐ฉ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Donโt think we have won a single pre season game
Also unable to sell the useless xhaka but can sell our home grown talent for peanuts
I really hate the way my club is run
Forgetting the money clubs โฆ a well run club can still achieve much but a poorly run club is painful to see especially when itโs your own!!
Being on Friday, really a decent first pl game for Brentford they will even be top of the pl Friday night!!๐

9th August 2021 at 8:45 am #182447Thatโs a very tricky game to start with stevo mate
Areteta has been supported. Nearly 80m spent this season. He really does get away with it in opinion. Arsenal need to start getting it together or he needs to go

9th August 2021 at 11:13 am #182452I do not understand why Messi is being seen as the “baddie”. It is Barca management at fault, Mr Laporte has already stated this publicly, not Messi who would rather be at Barca then anywhere else and his views earlier only was because of the previous bad management. this has nothing to do with football as such and to me is still a great player and will be for next couple of seasons. It will not be at City though and Pep knew this long ago
It is typical now though the way football has degenerated. It would be nice if there was a ยฃ10k cap on transfers, team shirts at ยฃ10 and admission charges capped at ยฃ5……there you go…I am in dreamland again_____________________________

9th August 2021 at 11:22 am #182454Brian, that goes back to the point of football relating to the working class man.
The reality over the last 25 years is that the distance has grown wider apart.
There’s obscene amount of money in the industry and the involvement of Agents brokering deals. Messi might have been the ideal pro when playing on the pitch. His head though will still be turned by money. He doesn’t even need it.
There’s greed. Of course that will make some fans out there feel resentful.
We rarely come across stories where a player coming down the other side of his peak takes a pay cut and plays for a Championship club (for example) purely for the love of football.

Good confidence building win for Barca yesterday though 3-0 v Juventus.
