Fall to the sword of the Agent and all the Lucrative Extras. I’d be a Hypocrite.
The Football Agents seem like they really push for more and more.
I was convinced Jack Grealish was Villa through and through.
I thought Pep mentioned no spend. What happened to Financial Fair Play Conduct?
It seems that ‘certain individuals’ feel as though they are exempt and indispensable.
Ah Well, another full throttle of Pep Guardiola, Referees and same old same old.

4th August 2021 at 9:51 pm #182250“Finance expert Kieran Maguire has claimed that Manchester City can sign Jack Grealish and Harry Kane while still complying with financial fair play rules (Football Insider).
A staggering amount of money is said to be surrounding the two England stars, with Football Insider having also reported that Grealish is set to undergo a Man City medical as Aston Villa will accept a huge bid of Β£100m.
This deal would be a new record and would make Grealish the most expensive English player of all time and also the most expensive Premier League arrival, just ahead of Paul Pogbaβs Β£94.05m transfer fee to Manchester United in 2016 (Transfermarkt).
This potential new record could be overtaken this very window, as The Athletic claimed that Tottenhamβs asking price for the England captain is Β£150m.
It has been reported that City could try and sign both of the England internationals this summer transfer window.
Maguire has claimed that, despite the money City are going to spend, it could still comply with the FFP rules.
He said: βIt is a staggering amount of money.
βI think there would have to be movement in both directions. The way that FFP works is that itβs based on a profit model.
βIf they signed both of them, theyβd both go on a five or six-year deal. So itβs the amortisation cost youβve got to look at.
βIf youβve got Β£260m spread over six years, that comes down to about Β£45m-a-year.
βBut when you sell a player on the other hand, all of the profit is immediately taken to the profit and loss account.β
Maguire explained that City would probably look to sell a first-team player, and used Sterling as an example.
He added: βSo if they sell, for the sake of example, Raheem Sterling for Β£80m, he has been there six years now so his value in the books will be something like Β£5-10m.
βThe difference between his book value, which is cost minus amortisation, and the sale price, all of that is taken to your profit and loss account immediately.
βCity are now selling lots of players weβve barely heard of in that Β£8-20m bracket.
βSo If you sell two or three of them then itβs not impossible to bring in both Grealish and Kane and be within the rules.β
It is hard to believe that after Cityβs previous problem with the FFP rules, they can magic up the best part of Β£250 million.
But, as explained by Maguire, it clearly is possible. Surely, it appears, they will have to sell at least one player for a big value to balance the books.”
“UEFA is reportedly scrapping Financial Fair Play (FFP) and will replace it with a new system of financial control which will give clubs more freedom over their spending. … But after over 10 years, UEFA has decided to end the FFP system according to journalist Tancredi Palmeri.24 Mar 2021”

5th August 2021 at 2:52 am #182252Just when I thought we might be able to have an extended period of players with no big injuries, Fofana goes and does a clean break of his leg in the preseason friendly today. Terrible tackle from behind!

5th August 2021 at 8:41 am #182253Nine, maybe he has a point about Liverpool. Arsenal are spending money and being heavily linked with Maddison after spending the guys of 70m already. Spurs are spending but I think that might be linked to Kane leaving
Utd and city are out there on their own as they can spend what they want.
Chelsea are bringing funds in and will get lackau
We need a midfielder and we could not with another attacking player to help Bobby out
We need to get rid of origi, shaquri and a few others. Iβd even sell keita. Very good player but never fit. Ox aswell.
Iβd keep Philips as matip and Gomez will get injured. Thiago injured already and wonβt be ready for start of season. Vvd and Gomez will not be ready either.

5th August 2021 at 9:00 am #1822541) City, not even worth discussing…. well done!
2) Chelski…. battling with YooUtd but reckon they’ll come out on top…
3) YooUtd… getting close, but that only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades…
4) LiVARberoOol… easily the best of the rest…
As for the rest of the “also-rans”, too hard to call, especially as the window is still open for a few more weeks, can make arguments for just about anybody for 5th place down…_____________________________

5th August 2021 at 10:40 am #182255Sean, funnily enough Darragh MacAthony the Peterborough Chairman who is a lifetime Liverpool fan was on Sky a few days ago and he was saying the same thing as Agbonlahor.
Personally I don’t think it’s an immediate problem for Liverpool and I still think they have a team who can compete at the top end of the PL table but if City and one or two others continue to strengthen in the transfer market over the next few seasons and Liverpool struggle to strengthen as they seemingly are now then there’s every chance Liverpool could ultimately fall back to where they were.
Liverpool could do with a Coutinho type deal or two.π

5th August 2021 at 10:48 am #182257Sean, Utd are unlikely to be spending much more than around Β£75-Β£100mil after selling a few.
Wish Utd could spend what they want but we’ve just put around 10 players up for sale. If we could spend what we want, we’d have got Sancho last summer and we’d have got Grealish when Villa stayed up. We pulled out after the price got silly when he kept them up.
Liverpool will definitely challenge this season. Would be shocked if they didn’t with that squad. They’re second favourites for a reason. Klopp is the only manager of those challenging who has proven he can topple Pep over the course of a league season. Liverpool’s problems last season were in defence and you’ve now got VVD coming back as well as Konate coming in.
Utd are too weak in midfield IMO and Ole is the least experienced of the challengers when it comes to winning trophies. He also had an awful lot of deadwood to clear after Mourinho and those before him.
Too early yet to start talking about who has had the best window. Still lots of business to be done.

5th August 2021 at 11:04 am #182258Just to point out that so far we have “sold” for about Β£40m. That excludes the approx Β£12m due from the Sancho transfer to Utd. So if we pay Β£100m ( crazy) for Grealish thats a net spend of about Β£50m.
My guess is one more big sale – at least – possibly Bernardo? That would bring perhaps Β£30m.
On this basis Kane is still a possible. If not it will be just about Β£20m net spend with Jesus the main Striker._____________________________

5th August 2021 at 11:36 am #182259Don’t even know why anybody is even bothering discussing “NET” spend etc…, FFP is deader than a dodo that’s committed suicide twice… especially considering how stupid the “sales count now, purchases count for as long as they’re at the club” nonsense…

5th August 2021 at 11:49 am #182260Not many clubs can have a 100m net spend Ed but I get your point.
Utd have a net spend off 469m in the last five years. Liverpool have 169m
Itβs not really a level playing field but one trump card is we have klopp and heβs worth more then any star signing.
Just look at cities spending. How is anyone supposed to compete with. Pep has spent a fortune.

5th August 2021 at 11:51 am #182261A lot of English players being bought this window for big money.
-Sancho Β£70 mill
-White Β£50 mill
-Grealish Β£100 mill
-Ings Β£30 mill
-Kane over Β£100 mill potentially.
-Maddison valued at Β£70 mill potentially to Arsenal.Thatβs at least Β£420 mill on just 6 players. Is this just a coincidence this summer or do teams feel you need that English presence in your side? Or is it that just there are quite a few good English players at the moment?

5th August 2021 at 12:06 pm #182263A little like the house prices; how high will these transfer fees be?
There has to be in my view something in place and regulated. Having Agents don’t help the cause.
I remember or 25 years ago when Liverpool signed Razor from Spurs for something like 2.5 million.
And houses were definitely more cheaper to buy!

5th August 2021 at 1:20 pm #182264Currently UEFA’s FFP rules are on ice due to the pandemic and UEFA are currently investigating what may replace FFP from next season.
I don’t think the Β£100m signing of Grealish by City would break FFP anyway even if it was fully operational the Grealish fee will be amortised over the length of his contract probably 6 years which means the cost to City for Grealish would be circa Β£16.6m pa.

5th August 2021 at 7:13 pm #182270My guess would be he goes to City on a monster contract and they give up on Kane, leaving him with nowhere to go and forced to return to Spurs training with his tail between his legs.
Also would save a bit of face for Pep who would have taken a hammering for saying City couldn’t afford to buy a striker before twice breaking the PL transfer record with Grealish then Kane.
