My Mum’s family are from Accrington. I always looked forward to seeing Ewood Park on the drive up to see the Grandparents.

30th July 2021 at 1:36 pm #182102Well city have a 100m bid in for grealish.
Will be reported soon on sky.
I always wonder about home grown players playing for the club they support/love in their home city. It must mean the worje to them. Grealish could stay and win nothing but will be forever loved by the fans of his home club. He be a legend
Or he goes to city, loses the villa fans love, will get loads of stick in his home town but win loads of trophies??
I really admire people who stay with the club they grew up sporting. What a privilege. The likes of shearer, Gerrard etc could have won a lot more
Are medals worth the hassle of being hated in a city were you were once adored???
Can only see grealish leaving but the villa fans will turn on him and his love affair with the club he supports and adores will never be the same again

30th July 2021 at 2:12 pm #182103Sean, not sure Grealish’s situation is comparable to the likes of Shearer and Gerrard, both who were at clubs who were competing for trophies at various times. Both Newcastle and Liverpool had some great sides then. They might have had a chance to win more elsewhere but they were always in with a chance of winning things where they were. Villa have very little chance of winning anything, as you say.
It’s also money. It’s a short career and City have the biggest wage bill in the league so are going to be able to dwarf anything Villa could offer, as well as being his only chance at winning things.
Β£100mil is crazy money but he’s a very good player. He’s been deleting all his old tweets about supporting Utd so it’s looking likely now π
One thing’s for sure. Adlab won’t like his diving!

30th July 2021 at 2:17 pm #182104Ye good point about shearer and Gerrard Ed but is football just all about medals for these guys ? The fans love him at villa. Their best player. At ciry he be hurt another player. At villa they might even build him a statue if he they ever did anything special
If itβs all about medals then he just has to leave to go to city

30th July 2021 at 2:23 pm #182105I don’t think he owes Villa anything Sean. he’s given them some of his best years as a player when he could have moved earlier. He’ll turn 26 soon and kept them up almost single handedly last season. For him to be hated for wanting to move and win things, now, would be ridiculous. Look at the amount of stick some players get for not testing themselves at a higher level.
Le Tissier, for example, was often criticized for not looking to go to a bigger club. Even Messi is given stick for not wanting to test himself in another league. He probably wants to play in the biggest competitions, too. It’s one thing playing for your hometown club but it would mean sacrificing playing in the CL as they’ve almost no chance of reaching the CL. He’d retire with people saying he’d never tested himself against the best in Europe etc. It’s a difficult one.

30th July 2021 at 2:33 pm #182106Tough call for Grealish he’s a very good player who will only improve further in a much better team he’s 26 in September City will give him the chance to play in the CL and compete for trophies if he stays at Villa he may never play in the CL it will be a wrench for him to he’s been at the Club from the age of 6.
I suspect personal ambition might encourage him to go but I wouldn’t write off him doing a Matt Le Tisser either, whatever he decides I wish him luck there are very few players that City can buy to improve their team but he’s one who would even at the suggested Β£100m, although I think any fee might fall short of the reported Β£100m and if it happens it could well be made up to that with add ons and might well include part exchange players too.

30th July 2021 at 4:38 pm #182110Arsenal sign Ben White for Β£50m. Lot of money for a player who has only had one season and 36 games in the PL at Brighton but he does look promising.

30th July 2021 at 5:13 pm #182111Ridiculous money nine mate.
You do wonder as a Liverpool
Fan how we are supposed to compete when the manager isnβt really backedUtd and city spend what they want. Utd have a higher net spend by 400m in the last five years. City or Utd donβt have to sell to buy.
Canβt see us doing much this season. Few injuries and we are screwed.
Be crazy if we donβt buy a midfielder
We won the cl and bought nobody. We won the league and had a net spent of about 40m. Itβs ridiculous

30th July 2021 at 5:14 pm #182112Itβs weird isnβt it 999 when United get varane for much less β¦β¦ itβs just the unique way Arsenal do business
No idea how silent Stan is a beeelionnaire when he buys high and sells low!!

30th July 2021 at 5:32 pm #182113Arsenal are effectively where Utd were in terms of readjusting after a very long serving manager has left. It does cause you a problem. They’re trying to make more sensible long term signings along with a former player in charge and put in a foundation. Better that than blowing money on big names, particularly if you don’t yet have a recruitment team that’s quite ready yet.

31st July 2021 at 7:57 am #182115Yes Sean I understand your concerns and seemingly after accruing the Coutinho money which helped fund the acquisition of Alisson, VVD and Fabinho who were key factors in the CL and PL triumphs your owners seem to be looking to be a bit more prudent which alongside other top PL Clubs being prepared to spend significantly might make it more difficult for Liverpool to compete medium to long term.
I still think Liverpool are strong enough to challenge for trophies currently but if the trend continues as it is it might be more difficult going forwards.
I still expect Liverpool to try and replace Wijnaldum before the Summer transfer window closes though which with what you’ve already got will make you good to go again this season although finishing above City will be the challenge for everyone especially if they strengthen further.

31st July 2021 at 8:53 am #182116Problem is we have far to many injury prone players nine mate. Players who miss huge chunks of each season. The priority this summer is to get the big players tied down to longer contracts.
Ye I still think we will sign a midfielder. If we can keep everyone fit then we can have a good season. No doubt matip and Gomez be injured soon
Looking forward to the new season now. Going to be very interesting

31st July 2021 at 9:14 am #182117I agree Sean next season is a bit of an unknown as far as LFC are concerned. Still think when on song we have the best front 3 in the league especially with Aguero leaving. Our back line when fit is right up there as well. If we sign a top midfielder then i’ll be a bit more at ease. We fielded 18 different cb pairings by feb last season and still finished 3rd. If we avoid the rotten luck of last season there’s no reason why we can’t challenge.

31st July 2021 at 10:31 am #182118Sean…I think a players loyalty to a club is very much second place to what is best for his family and their future. Nobody is concerned when say a Utd player manages City or City player manages Utd. etc. Family and personal ambition must come first not fans expectancy. Grealish may well stay at Villa and good luck to him I am sure he is bright enough to weigh up the pro’s and con’s
On the injuries question, it is a problem with the fixture list for most clubs
I guess it is important to build a good squad, City do not have the largest squad but they have good quality in the making I wonder if increasing the squad size from 25 to say 27 would bet better but I would suggest they have to be EDS additions not purchases_____________________________

31st July 2021 at 10:35 am #182119Sean….Liverpool will, be challenging injuries or not but I do think they need an alternative to the High press game which must take its toll in time. I think Pep found this out last season, it also costs us a few games, Pan B!!!

31st July 2021 at 10:39 am #182121Ye Harry if we can keep everyone fit then we can have a good season. Would love to see how an injury free keita gets on as heβs is clearly a very good player but just canβt stay fit. Itβs doubtful though. Itβs his 4th season now and heβs never had an injury free season.
The real concern is injuries. Gomez, matip, keita, ox, Hendo, fabhino and Thiago all miss chunks of most seasons. Even Alison is a bit injury prone for a goal keeper.
Would you keep Philips? Itβs just matip and Gomez will get injured again . Konate replaces Lovren??

31st July 2021 at 10:45 am #182123Sean…another point about Villa or any fans for that matter. “love” for a player only lasts while they are performing, loose form and the fans change like the weather….fickle
