Thought it must have been Utd playing Leeds with all those penalties!!
Just watched a playback. Think they were pens but I still say this is a crap ref.Such a shame that there were no fans to watch.

13th September 2020 at 9:24 am #166117Haven’t seen the game but reports indicate Leeds played well I’m sure Leeds will hold they’re own this season and build on it from there it’s good to see them back in the PL.

13th September 2020 at 10:55 am #166119Two of those errors were in his last few games Ed . Very poor yesterday
I said during the week I was very concerned about our defence
Is not as good as some make out. That was very sloppy yday
Lucky to get the win
Our next two games are going to be very tough and the mistakes at the bsck have to stop or we will lose both

13th September 2020 at 11:18 am #166120True Sean. We could be starring at 2 defeats. Both those teams in the Summer have strengthened and have good Managers. We could definitely do with Milner, Matip and Fabinho. These teams too will have a go and won’t sit back.

13th September 2020 at 11:20 am #166121Sean, I was thinking too once again on the subject of the fans not being there. Leeds really have some hardcore fans and they would have been vocal. I keep thinking too the fact that we’ve not had our Trophy presentation and celebration and we’re already into another new season.

13th September 2020 at 12:02 pm #166123I read a report in the press today that said it was unlikely there would be any fans in the Stadiums before 2021?
Given the acceleration in Covid cases and the recent measures introduced that seems more likely than unlikely?

13th September 2020 at 12:40 pm #166125True Nine, it’s all over the place mate. Once again, it’s the people or some people that are not showing social responsibility.

I think it’s every bit as good as people make out, just not since we haven’t needed wins. This was the first game that actually meant anything in how many months? That’s no excuse for it being off today and I get the feeling it may be a while before it’s back to business there but I don’t agree with any kind of narrative that leads to Van Dijk somehow being over-rated, or any member of that back 5 TBH. There have been long spells where we had been conceding fewer goals than any team in the top 5 leagues, nevermind where the mistakes for goals have been coming from 😛 3 in 3 years is really 2 in 3-4 months, right?
Van Dijk is the best CB I’ve ever seen, the legendary CB’s don’t have bad spells now because they are all retired but they did used to have them.
As for Alisson, I’m not sure why he’s not being mentioned by anyone. He has made very few saves now in a long time. He’s been nowhere near his level for the same length of time now, if not a little longer than the others in that back 5. He’ll have to ship up.

Good chance our next 2 games are a write-off, Sean. I don’t think it’s possible to improve as much mas is required over a single week. I mean, Maybe only 1 of them is a write-off perhaps but can you imagine Klopp after that rubbish? We’ve been drifting back to pre-Van Dijk/Robbo era stuff lately… BTW not knocking Robertson, he was our best defender by a mile yesterday. I still don’t think he was amazing or anything but I’m not including him in any criticism. Anyway, maybe the lads are just getting too casual because there’s no competition for places pretty much anywhere on the pitch, except for the CM positions? Well that combined with what I’ve mentioned about, with them being in the weird situation where they havent had a game that they needed to win in a long long time.

13th September 2020 at 1:49 pm #166128AnonymousNine, with cases shooting through the roof, it is unlikely they will go ahead with a plan for fans but, i have to wonder if there isnt SOME way to get some in there.
The key problem is of course distance/contact but maybe you could get fans back in if you were somehow able to make sure that queuing fans were distanced enough, that contact when entering the stadium was limited/screened/cleaned etc and then of course that they were able to be seated with gaps between them.
of course that’s complicated by things like fans using the toilets or moving around for snacks/food etc etc. You have to consider the fact that they all travel there and maybe they’d be in groups etc, you can never make it work out perfectly and you couldnt let the players or staff enter the areas that fans have been in until it’s all been cleaned from top to bottom… It would be a monumental effort but they would definitely be willing to put in whatever plans into place, if it meant increasing revenue again and of course getting some atmosphere back into the grounds.
I don’t want to say that it can or cant be done, definitively but there’s one thing about this virus scenario that i don’t like and it’s that we havent really adapted well enough to it. We’ve not been smart when it comes to implementing things even like schooling… We need to do better because this virus is not going away and the vaccines are going to be another while.

13th September 2020 at 1:54 pm #166129I disagree mak, teams can get in behind us Far to much.
That high line is a risk.
I disagree about vvd. Best centre back around at the minute but is he really up there with kompany, Terry, Ferdinand?
They did it season after season. Vvd has been Rock solid since he joined us.worje class defender but that mistake yday was him trying to be to clever. Did the sane at arsenal last season. An absolute beast but I’d give him a few more seasons before I’d mention him among side those 3 never mind the best defender I’ve ever seen.
Just my opinion mate.

13th September 2020 at 2:01 pm #166130Mak,be interesting to see what our governments roadmap is on Tuesday. It’s supposed to be a plan on we deal with this till next match. They are fucking idiots so I don’t expect it to be clear. It full of contradictions like it is now. I can’t even look at this fools on the tv
I had to get my two kids tested on Wednesday. Only bsck in school and had to keep them out a week. They cane bsck negative thank god but we had to isolate etc
The test and results were done very quickly though
It’s doing my nut in. We need to open the country up and try and live with this. Pubs need to be given a chance to see if they openly safely. People are losing their livelihoods.
Open up air bridges between countries. We have to do something. More people have died from suicide in the last 4 weeks then the virus. This is very very real. We need to protect are elderly and those who are vulnerable but we need to push on
Open offices back and try get the country moving again. We need to learn to live with this as it’s really starting to affect people mentally

13th September 2020 at 3:29 pm #166131Mak, that was the plan.
So for instance in a ground with a capacity of 60,000 25% of fans would be let in on a balloted basis, that was due to be started in October but the dramatic increase in cases has almost certainly postponed that until the number of cases significantly drop back again.
I would be amazed if we got back to capacity crowds this season best we can hope for imo is something like the above sometime in the future once cases have considerably reduced.

13th September 2020 at 3:43 pm #166132Being the grim reaper, I cant see any substantial crowds until there is a vaccine. My gut feeling is no crowds until at least spring – March or April.
If there is no vaccine then I just cant see any more than a few thousand at best.
Watched a bit of the WBA match….ugh,
Perhaps Spurs will be better?_____________________________

13th September 2020 at 3:48 pm #166133Sean. My other half is a Phd virologist and national expert and she reckons that here the pubs are the number one problem. Once people have a drink inside they forget about social distancing and get loud.
She also said right from the beginning the approach was arse about face. She had dealt with norovirus outbreaks for years. One of her last projects was in Cork!

13th September 2020 at 4:12 pm #166136Strikes me the Swedes have got things right. They had the humility to admit they made mistakes with the care homes, but they have never panicked into draconian measures. Social distancing and handwashing are the only effective things you can really do. Economy not as badly hit as others either. And cases there now much lower. Meanwhile in the supposed other free West, countries are increasingly acting totalitarian in their methods, and seeing what is happening in Melbourne should distress everybody.

13th September 2020 at 4:14 pm #166137Only pubs which serve food are allowed open here adlab but wet pubs are now being given a chance from the 21st of sept
Every other business has been given a chance and these publicans and are dead on their feet
Very few clusters of any have started in pubs here mate. Community transmission is the biggest problem. To man house parties is the issue
You can’t have more then 6 in a house but can go the pub?
You have to be 2 metres away from people sitting in a pub but can sit next to each other in a restaurant?
Playgrounds are over run with kids yet are open.
It’s far to unclear and rules contradict each other
Are government are pathetic. No one had faith in them. They haven’t a breeze in what they are doing
Absolute clowns.

13th September 2020 at 6:01 pm #166142Ed, sorry justo catching up on posts yday.
Anything maguire does will be analysed to the core as he is the worlds most exspensive defender. Every mistake he makes will be over scrutinised. That comes with his price tag
Vvd and Liverpool’s defence has not been right since the watford game end of feb. Vvd is an exceptional defender but I agree. He needs to be doing it constantly for another few years to be put up there with the pl greats like Rio, kompany, Terry etc,?
We hear that we had the league won etc with 7 ganes left and that was the excuse for our poor Defending but it’s going on much longer then that.
In the early ages of last season Norwich, Chelsea and Southampton all should have scored more goals then they did. We give up to many chances.
I actually fear for us this season. Next few games we have Chelsea, Everton and arsenal. Let’s see were we are after those games but if we keep defending like we are then we are in serious trouble
