I remember the obstacle course at school sports day, not as good as the Krypton Factor mind you, but I reckon, due to the desire to have as much football as possible and kill the golden goose, it will be exactly the same as the group stages before Christmas and knockouts afterwards… but with even more obscure/midtable teams like Hamilton Academicals, Dagenham & Redbridge and Manchester United…

Difficult to understand this one the EL already starts off with a bundle of non descript Club’s in it even the the CL has teams like Ludogerets and Pizen in it.

It’s not possible to create a Cup Winners Cup competition because 100% of all teams who win their domestic Cups qualify already qualify for either the CL or the EL and would TV companies even want to cover a third tier competition with no top sides in it?

Ultimately that’s what killed off the Cup Winners Cup with so many of the domestic Cup Winners qualifying for the expanded Champions League.

It might work if UEFA go the whole way with a mid week European League split by division with promotion and relegation but not at the expense of domestic Leagues.

One to ponder on by UEFA imo.

I reckon we can all agree a Euro League of some sort is on its way.

Still suspect this “Part III” comp will have the winners going into the “Thursday Cup”, as the winners of the “Thursday Cup” go into the Champions And A Few Other Really Important Cup” on Tuesday and Wednesday…

I wonder when they are planning on playing Part III? Monday and Fridays? Sunday Morning at Hackney Marshes?

I’ve just read this new competition is not due to be launched until the 21/22 season and will include trimming the EL to 32 teams to improve that competition too.

According to the report I read the new competition is being aimed at the weaker nations and at the same time they’re trying to improve the profile of the EL by cutting it to 32 teams.

I can see little to no interest in a third tier European competition aimed at the weaker nations other than perhaps in their own countries maybe so I don’t think it will matter too much as to what night it’s staged on providing it doesn’t clash with the CL or the EL it’s also seemingly 3 seasons away so anything could happen.

Chuky…never mind Euro League, although it maybe a forerunner to a Global league…that is what TV are after Fifa /UEFA will not have much say in the matter and if they press it clubs are already lining up for the bigger league TV rules
